Ok..so bare with me..as some will know lost my Mum very recently to cancer -want to do something to raise funds for Macmillan- I keep myself to myself so raising sufficient funds that’ll make a difference may prove difficult -so therefore I’m thinking those people with an interest in footy, GTFC - would maybe like to get involved, participate, organise, assist in a charity walk from a local club to end at Blundell Park before a Saturday game or something? That way can engage with anyone who may have lost a family member, or is suffering themselves, or knows someone going through cancer, and wants to do something collectively??

Would be extremely grateful for any help, feedback in getting this off the ground and organised. A subject obviously close to my heart and I want to do something desperately in remembrance of my Mum, and to help others.

If anyone is interested, or would be in any capacity..be it participating, help generating interest, organising, raising attention , anything at all - please feel free to drop me a message, or share the above.

Many thanks 🙏

Have you looked on The McMillan website Jase? As you know, I regularly raise funds for The Brain Tumour Charity and have twice done their annual "Twilight 10k walk". I'm sure McMillan with have a similar organised event.

I lost my nan 6 years ago to cancer, I used to donate toys regularly to mcmillans shops and donate money on her birthday.... I've been thinking for a while I'd like to do an event, something different. The only bizarre idea I could come up with is to scooter to a home game in the sumer holidays ( I live in Somerset!!)
Anyway, whatever you do keep us informed, I'll happily donate to the cause. There's alot you could do though, maybe write down ideas on a piece of paper and see what you feel suits you best.

I did a double fire walk for Macmillan about 4 years ago - tremendous experience, and personally raised about £500 after expenses needed to pay for the event safety organisers.

2nd one was after a crowd bucket collection - the wife was generous, apparently ???

Would definitely do it again for the cause !!

My son Harry and me would love to join in on the walk  as well as make a contribution to Macmillan, I think the meet up at a local pub and walk to the ground would be a great idea and a Saturday would suit us both (Harry and me)  let us know what date you are looking at Jase.

Hope no-one minds the post /

As has been highlighted on here just this last week, Cancer affects virtually every family in one way or another..Im raising funds for MacMillan as I lost my Mum to cancer 21 December, and I’m walking from Hull City to Blundell Park on Good Friday, (hopefully) arriving in time for the match v Stockport - it’s going to take me 9 hours or so..so very early start - if any Town fan would like to contribute or share it’d be very much appreciated. Thanks. UTM

What time are you starting Jase? Around 5am?
My mum also died from cancer on Jan 7th - we had her funeral last week. She was 99yo and her illness was quite short, but the MacMillan nurses were very caring and it was a source of comfort to know they were there, so I’d like to join you on the walk and see if I can help raise some extra money for your fundraiser.

Hi mate, more than welcome - I’m planning on leaving Hulls ground 4.30am. I’ve booked into a B&B nearby night before - more than welcome to message me and we can sort something out, more the merrier, and if it helps raise money it’s fantastic. Look forward to hearing from you/meeting you. 👍

Sorry for your losses Jase and Aussie. Lost three family members in the last year directly or indirectly to cancer in the last year.

Through the door there came familiar laughter,
I saw your face and heard you call my name.
Oh my friend we're older but no wiser,
For in our hearts the dreams are still the same.

Many thanks to anyone who’s donate thus far..

Aussie Mariner and myself walking from MKM Stadium, Hull to Blundell Park on  Good Friday, hopefully arriving at BP for a couple in the fanzone before the Stockport game - in aid of MacMillan Cancer Support. An amazing £1581 raised thus far. Link to page is on posts above, if anyone else could possibly add to the cause, or help to raise awareness it would be very much appreciated. Many thanks 👍

Anyone else up for it? All you need to do is join us in Hull for a 4.30am start (is that right Jase?) and then one foot on front of the other for about 10 hours 😁🤔😳
God, I’m looking forward to those pints in the fanzone

Bumped.

Walk is on Friday..would really appreciate any donations if at all possible (appreciate times are hard) for a good cause.

Leaving Hull 4amish ..hoping to get to Blundell Park for a beer in the fanzone before game. If anyones around on Friday lunchtime or just after we’ll be walking down the main drag into Clee, after coming from Immingham via Hobson Way, or if anyones that way and wants to walk for a bit and chat football.

A huge thank you to all who’ve donated thus far..it really does mean a lot.

UTM.

You're doing amazing Jase, well done.

I'd have liked to have joined you for some of the walk, but unfortunately, I can't make it up.

Your mam would have been soo proud.

Arrived in Hull..£2471 in donations..wow..

Just the 29 mile walk to do now in morning.

Thank you so much to all who’ve donated, to those who’ve helped promote, to MarinersTrust/Codalmighty, to those at the club who’ve messaged..and Colin for volunteering to take part, and those who’ve donated on Colin’s behalf.

Really humbling, and a tad emotional..hope we can/have help in even a small way - anyone who’s fighting cancer, has suffered with cancer, and their families as it affects all.

Yes, along the wall. Sounds about right distance wise, although my dog probably did about 20 miles and a few swims as well.

We walk about 50 miles a week on average.

Well we did it..just wanted to say a massive thank you and appreciation to all who’ve made donations and contributed. Colin and I did the walk - but without all your help it wouldn’t have been possible.  Also a thanks to the football club, Mariners Trust, Codalmighty and the fishy for help promoting. I hope collectively we have helped in some way. Will leave the page open for a while for any additional donations, and still have offs and sods to add. As it stands £2705 raised + the gift aid..unbelievable..thanks all ❤️. Love you Mum x

I’d just like to re-iterate Jase’s thanks to everyone, all those who have supported the cause, Kristine and Dave for giving us a warm reception on arrival, including a very refreshing pint of Clap Fish, special mention to the Humber Bridge toll collector who told us how to get onto the walkway and also donated a tenner, Tim and Rebecca who joined us on the bridge and walked to Barrow with us (thanks for the coffee Tim), Jase’s friend whose name I didn’t catch but who ran out of the Rutland to give us a beer and insult my outfit (sorry to anyone who was in any way traumatised, but it was a condition of donation by a group of friends who know me as Captain Underpants), Town for rounding the day off with a great win, but most of all Jase himself for coming up with the idea and putting in a great effort despite only getting one hour’s sleep the night before.
R.I.P. Chris Ives and my mum Ellen Longden (1922-2022) who both died of cancer. I second Jase in hoping that we have collectively helped MacMillan to help others who are suffering now and in the future.

Having done this I’ve got the urge to do something again next year..maybe for Dementia, or the Handicapped Supporters group.

Already come up with a theme..would involve more personnel being involved, young and old,  in putting together, participating and fundraising collectively.

Theme based around GTFC.

Anyone interested in helping/listening/collating feel free to say hi in fanzone before home games, or message via social media/here.

No rush..will take some doing/organising. But it’s doable.

Well done to you both. Keep us posted Jase on your plans, I've been half debating to myself for a while now to do something to raise money in this sort of way.. I semi looked at walking or scooting 'home' (taunton to grimsby) whichd take a massive effort and alot of training 🤔

Final one I promise ..just FYI..

Total is £3121 + 700 odd gift aid

I do have £40 to add that I collected on the day - and Colin May have a few bits to add also - page will be open until May 15, if there is anyone who would like to donate who yet hasn’t - can do so via the page or I’ll be at Fanzone before the match today.

Many thanks from the bottom of my heart, for raising a very significant amount to a worthy cause, that is close to home and affects/impacts us all at some point.

All the best - Jase.

Recently did a charity walk-want to do something else-here’s my idea- (will take a lot of organisation/help/cooperation/interest)-and I’m thinking of something local..maybe #gtfc handicapped supporters but open to ideas.Anyway..@officialgtfc - 1878..divided by 60(mins)=31.3 hours

So I’m looking at anyone who wants to do a range of activities over that length of time. Cyclists,runners,footballers,5-a-side,snooker,pool etc-at locations we can organise with help. All willing to fundraise as a collective to help an organisation or charity. Make a difference.

Is it a crazy idea? Probably. Is it feasible? Who knows. Would there be interest? Hence asking. So if anyone is/would be interested - all ages - and wants to help/start process/organise/chat/meet etc - I’m more than willing to participate/help myself. @MarinersTrust #gtfc
