So in effect they spent £550m in a season.
Sickening...... whether they can afford or it not.

Chelsea's finances are fine. Well until Russia invades Ukraine & Abramovich has all his assets frozen that is.

They owe Abramovich £1.4bn!
Take 3 zeros away and it's what we are paying our old owner back.
It's going to get messy when that bubble eventually pops.

Kind of non stories these, there will be numerous cases like this, all down to loss of income during the initial Covid period. Clubs expect these losses and will have prepared for them.

The model that is used by Ze German clubs is something that every club should strive for and imho one that should be implemented throughout professional football (though it will NEVER happen) https://liamsmithlaw.wordpress.....an-take-lessons/amp/https://amp.theguardian.com/co.....n-super-league-clubshttps://amp.dw.com/en/european.....tmund-out/a-57277645
Remind me how many consecutive Bundesliga title's Bayern have won? The German model would just hand a similar dominance to Man Utd. The only clubs who broke Man Utd's dominance under SAF have spent lots of money doing so. Blackburn, Arsenal, Chelsea & Man City. If you look at the last 10 champions in the top European leagues you see dominance caused by 1 or a couple of clubs having a huge economic advantage over the rest... England - 5 Man City, 2 Chelsea, 1 Leicester, 1 Liverpool & 1 Man Utd. Spain - 5 Barca, 3 Real Madrid & 2 Atletico. Germany - 9 Bayern & 1 Dortmund. Italy - 9 Juventus & 1 Inter. France - 7 PSG, 1 Lille, 1 Montpellier & 1 Monaco. Portugal - 5 Benfica, 4 Porto & 1 Sporting. Scotland - 9 Celtic & 1 Rangers England has had 5 different champions compared to 2 or 3 for all the other European leagues with the exception of France where PSG's dominance only started 9 years ago & wrecked a league that had become competitive again after Lyon's dominance had been broken. PSG's first title following their takeover was the 6th different Ligue 1 champion in 6 years.

Eye-watering losses! Okay when you have a Russian oligarch as your owner though I suppose. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/59827141
Just another thought. UEFA FFP rules have been relaxed because of COVID and are being rewritten. I imagine Chelsea (and others) will be piling as much losses as they can into their 2020-21 accounts whilst the rules are virtually non-existant.

We don’t always agree but on this I’m with you. I’ve heard so many say the premier league bubble will burst but in truth, it never will…no point pretending…

To be fair if covid hasn't burst it then I struggle to see what will. It may deflate somewhat but it won't be bursting any time soon.

Me too. I keep agreeing with PP (except on his views of the old/new regimes of course ). Sure most asset bubbles burst sooner or later, but this one seems to keep on growing and growing. They have so much wealth and power that when they are under threat, it will be others that are made to suffer (i.e. lower leagues).

I hate the obscene wealth on show in the Prem. But then again I subscribe to Sky who fund a huge chunk of it.
I think the only thing that would start to burst the bubble would be the mass exodus of subscribers from the various TV platforms, but it would have to happen on a global rather than simply national scale due to the popularity of the game in Asia and other markets.
Sadly I just don't see that happening anytime soon. I think the circus is in town for the foreseeable future.

It’s unlikely that you’d get enough subscribers to leave in order for that bubble to even deflate a little. Lower league fans can claim it’s not real football or it’s grossly disproportionate to the rest of the game/world etc but it’s a brand and s successful one at that. Clubs and the league tapped in to that market of people who can’t/don’t want to go to games but follow football from their armchair or local boozer. Couple that with the increase of online betting etc and it’s a marriage made in heaven. Neither clubs nor TV companies at that level care about the fan that’s been going 40 years come rain or shine. They say they do but in truth they’re not arsed and why would they be? The bubble is unlikely to burst because too many stand to lose out and as it operates, they need each other…

The debt will be covered with the possible sale of Lukaka, they don't include the value of their players in these figures so they would add up to probably half a billion, it is insane though, the wages of the players are greater than all of the income generated & a loss is shown, you would think that it is not sustainable but with the wealthy they cover that debt with personal guarantees.
