My sources are telling me they’ve offered him a six-finger salary.

This might sound strange and not aligned to other supporters opinions, but I don't think Hendry will be that big a loss. Although his defensive side improved later into the season, I thought in possession, and certainly passing/crossing was some way off.

I think Hurst's historical full backs were all better than him (Danny Andrew, Richard Tait, Gregor Robertson, Ben Davies, Townsend, Aswad Thomas)

Your little Hurst signs better full-backs than Hendrie theory falls apart a bit when you realise Hurst signed him at Shrewsbury.

Hendrie of last season is no major loss, but it's probably important to remember that he was carrying an injury for the vast majority of the campaign.

Prior to that I thought he was a fine full back, but the last 12 months he was a good yard slower, considerably weaker, easily beaten and far less composed on the ball.

If we were losing the Luke Hendrie of 19/20 I would be disappointed, but I've absolute confidence in Hurst to bring in better.

Full back is always a position that under Hurst we always managed to upgrade.   Magnay to Tait for example.  Magnay was one who many worried we wouldn't be able to better.

Davies and Robertson weren't as good for us, but have had decent careers before signing. You're off your rocker if you think Aswad Thomas was better than Hendrie though. Andrew, Tait and Townsend definitely better, will give you that. Hurst signed Magnay too, didn't he? I agree with you that he does sign good full backs but Hendrie has been one of our most consistent players in the league for several seasons now. He's definitely not irreplaceable though, he's just a solid steady Eddie who puts in a lot of effort. Will be a decent signing for anyone in L2.

I take your point. I was really disappointed with him last season was my main gist and that Hurst has always had a decent defence. Robertson I though was genuinely really good at the time he signed.

Wasn't a great season for him, but I thought he wasn't anywhere near as bad as some made out. Especially once we started defending well towards the back end of the season.

So is this what the Boreham Wood clip on Saun Pearson's vid was all about?

I thought he was bang average last season, all that said in a poor side but not the player we signed.

Click on the vid of Saun's signing, it's about after the first 3/4 mins, I think.

I can’t my head round people thinking Hendrie is poor, fans seemed to latch onto him being poor for no particular reason. We were a much worse team (if that's possible) in the games without him last season.

In fact, he missed 8 games last season, we lost 6, drew 1 and won just 1 of those games.

So if Hendrie goes and Hewitt has already flown the nest, does that mean Hurst needs to sign 12 players now or stick to the 10, and utilise 2 of the players who are going to steal a wage this coming season?

I never said they were. This was about Hurst's numbers. He said BEFORE any departures that he wanted to sign 10 players, but now one has gone and another potentially on his way, will he need to sign 12 now or might he have factored in the chances of some of his squad skidaddling and still stick to 10 incoming

Not quick enough. That said, once we got the new pair at the back, he was good enough. Just.
Mind you, I don't remember townsend being particularly quick. Nor Nsiala.
And,  I'll stick to my day job
Better at the back or in a 3?

Christ you all wanted him sacked a few months ago. 6th place finish and he's now the messiah and can do no wrong
Update:  I think I've got this right - He was the messiah. He then wasn't. He then was again. Then it turned out he actually wasnt. He turned into one big huge messiah again. Now he's not actually the messiah we thought he was . Now I'm hoping he rises again quickly

Fairly ambivalent towards whether Hendrie stays or goes to be honest, I think he may have naturally ran his course with us and probably ready for a new challenge - I’d back PH to find better aswell, he’s got a decent record at finding defenders.

Be gutted if Giles Coke left though, he’s got cult hero written all over him.

Forza, now I am surprised you've brought FB statements as being reliable into the fishy..
Coke leaving would upset me rather disappoint me, hoping he's not used us to get his chance to get out of non league in the hope of being picked up by a league club for one last pay day..

Yeah league clubs will be queuing up for a 35 year old who last season played in the conference north and for the worst team in the FL.

Nobody says queuing up did they?...Hewitt also played for the worst club in the EFL bit got back into the league!...Coke stood out in that midfield, I'm pretty sure they'll have been a few lower end league 2 clubs taking note ...

I've always been a fan of Hendrie but have heard more than one rumour over the past month that he wants to leave. If he gets an offer from a league club, you can't blame him for taking it.

I'm sure Hurst will find a suitable replacement should he move on.

The captaincy will be an interesting one. McKeown the incumbent club captain, Pearson a leader and captain of Wrexham for 4 years and Coke (if he signs) a leader in the middle of the park.

Great if true, don’t know anything about Sears but similarly to McAtee, for me they are the right age of playing we should be going for in the main.. hopefully young, energetic, talented players with something to prove. Sprinkled with some experience around them like Pearson, Coke etc.

Telegraph reporting it now, I would find that a very strange move for Hendrie... out the frying pan and into the fire!

Two clubs on a downward trend with a pretty dismal recent history.. at least with us there looks to be light at the end of the tunnel?

I thought Luke still lived in Lancashire /cheshire way so it seems if he wants to leave he would stay over in that part of the country.

Please let me know if I am wrong.

If he does live Leeds way on and is going to Scunny, that's a good hour off his daily commute in and out to work.

Plus staying in the league.  Can't blame him in the slightest.

I agree with you but he can't sit on the fence.

If Hendrie wants to join a financially challenged team that will spend the season near the bottom of League 2, or stay with a club that is going through a transformation and aspires to be near the top of the NL, then he's not the sort of player we want in the team.

It might be as simple as going somewhere that is paying £1500 a week over 2 years as opposed to one. I sometimes think as fans we overthink this and apply too much emotion.

I think you're right, we all love to think that players will stay loyal but essentially the human factor is often overlooked.

If you are in a job and someone offers you a better one with an improved salary. better bonuses and prospects etc you are going to consider it however happy you maybe in your current role. Certainly in the lower League's where that extra money goes a long way more than it would a Premier League footballer who is on the big bucks,

I would question him joining Scunthorpe as they are skint and in dire straights by their own fans admission but I wouldn't be shocked to see him go to a League Two side who can offer him more than we can so if he goes, good luck to the lad and we move on.

Hendrie 100% won't be playing for a club in Lincolnshire this coming season, Harrogate have now emerged as a likely destination, hence holding off from Scunny.

Why?  Because the lad is looking at the best options available to him?

If you want to take that stance we waited until he was weeks away from his contract expiring before offering him a new one.  If we were that desperate, it's our own fault. (for the record I don't think we were or are that desperate).

It's a job and a wage for him.  He would be an idiot to not try and get what's best for himself.

I dont really get why some fans get so offended if a player wishes to play for another team.

Its a job to them at the end of the day. If Hendrie decides to not take up Town's contract offer and go elsewhere that's entirely his choice. I wish him well whatever he decides. There are numerous factors a player will consider like any of us weighing job options. Money will be part of it, family reasons, geography, stature etc. Again things we would all factor into our decision if it was ours to make.

Most players dont have an emotional link to the team they play for. Occasionally you will get a player like James McKeown who has settled into the area with his family for a long time and perhaps beyond their playing career. He had opportunities to go over the years but ultimately was happy and thought it best for his family to stay put. He may have earned more elsewhere I dont know. All parts of the pros and cons.

Hendrie has been a solid performer for Town. Always 100% effort. But he's not irreplaceable. I think his form has dipped in recent times. If he stayed all well and good if he moves on good luck to him
