I’ve been looking into him recently and thought he’d be a good signing even if we stayed up. 23 years old, decent record and out of contract. Surely there’ll be league clubs interested but hopefully he’s the kind we’re talking to.

Quick look at his highlights on youtube, yep looks like the sort of striker we've missed since Podge and Bogle

I don't mind Roy Keane making £60,000 a week. I was making the same when I was playing. The only difference was I was printing my own - Mickey Thomas

The area you are trying to protect at corners is the goal - Chris Kamara

I once said Gazza's IQ was less than his shirt number and he asked me: What's an IQ? - George Best

How does it work regards compensation given that he turns 24 on 22nd July. Is there a fixed cut-off point, or would we or any other prospective buyer have to wait until his birthday to sign him?

He’s had two seasons in the National League averaging a goal every other game, and a season in National League South doing even better than that. They are indeed very Bogle-esque stats - it’s hard to imagine a league club not taking a punt on him of a free on that basis. Would be surprised, pleasantly so, if he ended up here.

If he's out of contract it would be astonishing if one of the southern league one or two teams didn't take a punt on him.

Good point. I guess that his contract expires on 30th June so anyone that signed him then would pay a compensation fee assuming BW have offered him a new, improved deal. But if he remains a free agent after his 24th birthday then they wouldn’t be entitled to a penny. Depends what the fee would be I suppose and if any club decides it worth paying rather than wait it out to get him for free.

There are plenty of players like him out there. We need to find and develop them ourselves, because once they start to get the level of attention that he is getting, we are in a big queue for their services.

I doubt we will be signing him because he will be getting better offers.

EVERY player that has scored 4 or more goals this season is a possible option compared to the hotshots we had this season.

Having delved into lower leagues last year and signed 2 of the most prolific goalscorers, look where that got us. Both scored not even a handful of goals and played in next to no games.

I reckon this coming season Hurst will pick up an out of contract league forward who will be lured by the atmosphere of the New Grimsby Town

Hurst has an eye for good players. Maybe there is one out there that was at Ipswich when he was there that hasn't had a chance or has been injured and fallen off the radar. That's how Hurst operates, keeping an eye on players he's worked with or knows well.

Shouldn't we look in the midlands and north first - not had great success with recent signings based feckin miles away - south east and south west. In fact, when was the last time we signed a player from miles away down south on a permanent deal that was any good and stayed with us for more than a season? Only Hendrie immediately springs to mind and he's from Leeds and played all his football up north until Shrews.

Of course, forgot about them...

More seriously though, the SE is stacked with tinpot clubs that we now can't compete with thanks to what has happened over the last 20 years. How much more dosh would Kabongo Tshimanga want to play for Grimsby rather than Stevenage. If he's that good wouldn't Cambridge take a punt on him, what about Wimbledon? We need to find the next Liam Hearn.

There's lower league and then there is where they came from, which was steps 3 and 4, or level 7 and 8. They weren't up for that big a jump to League 2.

Hopefully Hurst can find some sort of Bogle type player from the non-league, if a league club comes in for him then I doubt we have no chance anyway, with no disrepect even if it's the likes of Barrow or Harrogate, just for being in League Two.  Then again when we signed Amond, it was kinda a bolt out the blue and look how that turned out. Looking forward to the transfer window.

I'm always one for positivity, I wouldn't be surprised at all if Jackson Jr scores a lot more goals now we've dropped down a division, he might even shine, fingers crossed.

I think people could be getting a little too optimistic about Jackson Jr...If Hurst was of the opinion that he's good enough to fire us to promotion from the NL, then he would've given him more game time in our LG2 scrap.

He's scored a few tap ins (which is a quality in itself, of course), but his all round play has flattered to deceive, especially when he's started.

Aside from being good goal scorers, Bogle and Amond were/are bloody good players too.

Trying not to be too negative, i sincerely hope he comes good, but as yet i'm not convinced, going from what i've seen so far. But would love to be proved wrong, and i love his attitude!

It's pretty pointless trying to guess Hurst's transfer dealings isn't it?

I'd like to think we'll be looking to rekindle that mentioned model of getting talent from non-league and developing them, rather than just getting journeymen on their way down.  Hurst also likes to find a rough diamond wallowing away in the reserves somewhere too, Jon Nolan?  I suppose you could add Menayese to that list this season too.

Have to say I agree with sam gy about Jackson.  I'm not convinced Hurst is all that sold on him.   Of course there's a degree of professionalism in the two dead rubbers (for us) that we played but I'd have thought Hurst would have given him more of a run out if he was in his plans beyond this season.

Aside from being good goal scorers, Bogle and Amond were/are bloody good players too.

Trying not to be too negative, i sincerely hope he comes good, but as yet i'm not convinced, going from what i've seen so far. But would love to be proved wrong, and i love his attitude!

Agreed- I think he has a chance but on the balance of probabilities will be moved on, either on loan or payoff. Hurst clearly doesn't rate him highly as he scarcely played him.

Likewise the people saying Lamy would be good at NL - he hasn't done anything and can't even force himself into this really really poor side. If Hurst rated him he would have played him more. He will surely be leaving too.

Gibson rose Williams obviously too, Hurst left the bench empty rather than include them!

I hope that League 1 reserves and Under 23 squads will be the target area for loanees for next season, and that Paul Hurst will have been talking already to agents snd players on his A1 hit list.

Clearout day tomorrow, so I expect the Forum will go wild with differing opinions.

I can't see any new signings until the end of the National League.

Hurst will want a solid back 5 and has a good eye in that respect. The fans want to see some guts and skill further up the field and this will be the hardest task.

Other team release lists will be interesting in the next few days and weeks.

We all await neck hair tingling and growing times !!

Great stats to be fair. I do think centre forwards should be judged on goals, I know there are target men and hard working players like LJL but primarily their job is to put the ball in the net and he certainly does that at NL level.

I think financially, he won't be beyond us, he's a good age. But aside from a brief spell at Boston (practically Cockney's), he seems to be southern based. Aside from getting him to sign up north where we have gravy on our chips (quite rightly), there's the issues with players not settling. Loads of examples of this.

We certainly need someone with numbers like his though.

I’m not having that. Gravy on chips. That’s not all the North. Just those mop-headed Wallaces. Mushy peas for the grown ups or tomato sauce for the kids.

Through the door there came familiar laughter,
I saw your face and heard you call my name.
Oh my friend we're older but no wiser,
For in our hearts the dreams are still the same.
