Four changes for the Mariners this afternoon as Luke Hendrie, Mattie Pollock and James Hanson all return to the side, while Giles Coke makes his full debut after coming off the bench on Tuesday.

TOWN: Eastwood, Hewitt, Menayese, Waterfall (c), Pollock, Hendrie, Matete, El Mizouni, Coke, Payne, Hanson.

Subs: McKeown, Habergham, Rose, Morais, Adams, Green, John-Lewis.

When Leeds trainer Les Cocker was once told Norman Hunter had broken a leg, he asked: “Whose is it?”

A shame Morais isn't playing on the right to swing a few crosses into Hanson.

Incidentally, is this the first complete non-Holloway 11 since Hurst arrived?

This another example of Hurst managing players, much like he did with Bogle?

Morais is undoubtedly a class above but perhaps can’t start two games in a week? Or is it just tactical and the system suits us better and nullifies them?

Good to see two upfront.

Thought Adams might have started though.

But it looks a strong line up.

We are gonna win this one.

We have two games next week too against much stronger teams, makes sense to take it easy with players we'll need for bigger games. No disrespect to Harrogate who have done better than we have this season but they aren't Leyton Orient and FGR.

I am sure you are right. Just back from injury and given his age, 2 games in a week is a big ask.

Ah that very successful 532 formation we've had so much success with over the last few years and once again Green wasting a space on the bench.

I don't mind Roy Keane making £60,000 a week. I was making the same when I was playing. The only difference was I was printing my own - Mickey Thomas

The area you are trying to protect at corners is the goal - Chris Kamara

Wing backs with Hewitt right and Hendrie on the left hand side.
Plus 2 up front. Unlucky on Adams and Morais but rotation of the squad with 2 games in a week.
Also looking forward to seeing Coke on his first start

Orient are below us in the form table.

Surprised Adam's is left out after scoring but looks a strong side, with good options on the bench.

Strange that LJL hasn't has a start yet, considering he was in good form for Hereford before we signed him

Width being provided by defenders-one on his wrong foot, great move when you finally bring Hanson in to get on the end of crosses.

What's the score re max Wright and Harry clifton??

In his three stints as Grimsby Town manager spanning over 10 years the club was never relegated and he also guided them to three promotions.
Only 14 managers have reached 1,000 matches in charge of a Football League team by 1998 and Buckley is one of them.

Is my comment wrong? Jolley tried 532 brought about his sacking, Holloway tried 532 and we know how thats gone, Hurst 532 abondoned every time and gone 442 because we've created nothing and losing and I really don't have to defend my Green comment

What's the score re max Wright and Harry clifton??

"Harry Clifton and Max Wright remain out for Grimsby Town’s trip to Harrogate this weekend.

Wright has been sent to St George’s Park for tests to get to the bottom of his injury, with Paul Hurst keeping his fingers crossed the winger will be able to resume training on Monday.

Clifton though faces a longer spell out – no timescale has yet been set, but his manager expects him to be missing for at least a few weeks."

think you must be looking at the subs bench! Looks very much like a 'we're coming for a point' team.No Adams or Morais and 6 defensive players (plus matete who certainly doesn't shirk his tackling or defensive duties) out of the 10

Do I need my head testing?  I went to meet a mate for a couple of beers before the game. A woman was sat alone giving me the eye and a few smiles. Of course here, you have a few reservations about women drinking alone.  Turned out she was waiting for the gaffer's wife. She spoke English (ticked a box),  She, was single (ticked a box).  She was voluptuous (ticked a few boxes) and she had a sense of humour.  Well at least she laughed at my jokes. She invited me to go to a club with them.  "Sorry I replied. I'm going to watch Harrogate V Grimsby".

Thought the commentator is alright. Well entertaining. "Mayonaisa". "Off for a goal kitsch". And an accent like Alan Bennett.

"ooh he moved quicker than my Aunt Cissy when the cat scratched at the antimacassar".

Through the door there came familiar laughter,
I saw your face and heard you call my name.

I don't mind Roy Keane making £60,000 a week. I was making the same when I was playing. The only difference was I was printing my own - Mickey Thomas

The area you are trying to protect at corners is the goal - Chris Kamara

In his three stints as Grimsby Town manager spanning over 10 years the club was never relegated and he also guided them to three promotions.
Only 14 managers have reached 1,000 matches in charge of a Football League team by 1998 and Buckley is one of them.

Formation is not working, no outlet, losing the midfield, no one with any playmaking in them. Only a matter of time before they score. I know it's only 30 mins but need to change it before they score.

I’m ashamed to admit this is the first game I’ve bought all season and I’ll probably get shot down for this but .... is this an improvement on the Holloway era, and if so - how?! If I wanted this quality of match I’d peer over a primary school fence.

Quoted from Astcooper89
I’m ashamed to admit this is the first game I’ve bought all season and I’ll probably get shot down for this but .... is this an improvement on the Holloway era, and if so - how?! If I wanted this quality of match I’d peer over a primary school fence.

If it's the first one you've seen then you haven't got anything to compare it to.

Through the door there came familiar laughter,

They had to change it from artificial didn't they.

Very 'quaint' commentary today. I'm enjoying his regular use of the term 'roughing up' for almost any kind of physical contact.

Big well done to Eastwood and waterfall, the rest been very quiet. The pitch dosent suit our midfielders at all who look a bit out of depth  at the moment.

well that was dire, we have not got into the game at all and Harrogate look the far superior team in all departments except for the goalkeeping department as we could have should have been 3 or 4 down without Eastwood and that is no exaggeration.#

Coke does not look a yard of the pace, instead he looks several, Payne looks as so he does not give a excrement, El Mizouni and Matete have done the square root of intercourse all. Menayese looks a disaster waiting to happen and he has looked it in every singkle game so far.

now onto the positives in that first half, in truth not many.
Eastwood has made several saves and looks a very good shot stopper
Waterfall I feel has stood up to the physical aspect of the first half quite well as you would expect.

and it is 0-0

hopefully Hurst is giving them a rocket at half time as that was not acceptable.

The only saving grace so far is that despite forcing a couple of decent saves, Harrogate have failed to take advantage of the amount of times they've got the ball in our box. Need to change something second half to try to stop us being pinned in our own half as the plan didn't work out first half. Kind of expected more confidence after a win but we seem even more nervous as they've been closing down and pressuring us.

Well that was awful. Commentators hit nail on the head when they said that we looked better under Holloway and it is probably down to confidence.
I think its down to confidence and the wrong formation today. Its not working and we are not losing, only by the skill of the keeper and a massive amount of luck. Lets hope Hurst sees what everyone else is seeing and changes it. Need some shape and an outlet or 2.

Need to change something at halftime, preferably shifting to 4 at the back and habergham on for Hendrie, don’t think he’s stepped foot in the opposition half. Can only improve on that.

Commentators didn't know difference between Menayse and Payne, then confused payne and Hanson. said we were from hull and 4 mins gone of added time when clock showed 3.30 mins.

I said about JT you don't know what you have till you've lost it. JT makes these two look like novices.

God we've been terrible. All over the place and look completely lost playing 532, now if only someone had predicted that when the lineups came out hmmmm 🤔

Payne and Hanson might as well not be on the pitch, not because they're playing poorly, just we clearly have zero intent on attacking or creating anything for them.

Same can be said about the midfield, they're not marking, tackling or tracking anyone. They're being completely bypassed by desperate hoof balls.

Defence is all over the place, both "wingback" being outnumbered on the flanks, getting no support. All 3 CBs don't know what to do in a 3 they're all over the place desperately hoofing and heading the ball clear.

Thank god for Eastwood, nothing else needs to be said about the lad.

Hurst gets Adams and Morais on take Helmans and Coke off and go 442, match them man for man and take away the extra man they have on the wings. I might even go as far as bringing the Shop on for Hanson as hes more mobile.

I don't mind Roy Keane making £60,000 a week. I was making the same when I was playing. The only difference was I was printing my own - Mickey Thomas

The area you are trying to protect at corners is the goal - Chris Kamara

We can't have another 45 minutes of that as it's a nailed-on loss.

Plus side is that Eastwood looks like a very good goalkeeper and has kept us in this.

Commentary is strange and I'm not sure if they have a bad view but they seem to be assuming/guessing a lot.

Big well done to Eastwood and waterfall, the rest been very quiet. The pitch dosent suit our midfielders at all who look a bit out of depth  at the moment.

Thats because we don't have midfield.

The commentator ( Barry Parker ) said he used to cover Town games in Buckley's first spell....

I didn't get commentaries back then living away but he did say he's got a soft spot for us.

A half of football nobody will remember. They’ve been lively and had a chance. We had one chance but it was tame.

People can moan about the back 5, probably same folk that think 442 is the be all and end all. That additional player in there has helped us out, that’s often been the man clearing the ball.

There’s clearly a reason we’ve shifted to that shape and it’s 0-0, performance aside, results are what matters.

You’d fancy the shop to be more lively than either of the front two so I can see that one coming, may be adapt the shape of its 0-0 with 20 to go and bring Morais on...

I'm not offended by the 3-5-2 **so long as our wing backs get forward into crossing positions**. But they're not. I don't think Hendrie ventured out of our half in that 45.

It's essentaily 5-3-2 and I think it's the primary reason the ball is coming back at us so much, because we're so narrow outside the 18 yard area. I'll be amazed if he doesn't make some changes early in the second half. They're not as good as Crawley and we're struggling more today than Tuesday (which is saying something, we were pretty bad then).

So Harrogate had 62.6% possession and us 37.4% in that half. Under IH it was usually the other way around, yet we still lost. Happy to give the whole "sit back and snatch a sneaky win" approach if it actually gets us some points!

Shocking obvious why hes gone with 3 cds due to Jones long throws. Could be 4-1 down on chances, Other than our shot on goal we have only had the ball in their pen area twice and that was 2 longthrows for Hanson to flick on. We are sitting so deep we may as well just play with 10 defenders. So fgar it is as bad as I have seen this season

Tuesdays opponents Orient losing 0-3 at home, they are on a worse run of form than us.

When Leeds trainer Les Cocker was once told Norman Hunter had broken a leg, he asked: “Whose is it?”

He should be told to stop that. It's more entertaining than the game.

The commentary is so bad it's good.  Next up, Mrs. Johnson's lumbago and then an in depth investigation into the theft of Mr. Popovich's bicycle.

If he didn't want to come off he could have looked interested for the 65 minutes he was on. Only time he looked bothered was when he almost touched a ball in.

Christ you all wanted him sacked a few months ago. 6th place finish and he's now the messiah and can do no wrong
Update:  I think I've got this right - He was the messiah. He then wasn't. He then was again. Then it turned out he actually wasnt. He turned into one big huge messiah again. Now he's not actually the messiah we thought he was . Now I'm hoping he rises again quickly

Look at the difference in the cross.  Low trajectory , just needs a touch to change direction.  We haven't been able to do that all season. We deserve nothing more.

This formation and performance is a joke against a weakened Harrogate, Not sure what Hurst is thinking to be honest very worrying deffo worse under Hurst 3 centre halfs and conceed from a cross with 1 big lump upfront... Too late to change it now Hurst

Pollock is crap. Just let the man run off him. intercourse off

Some people are deluded enough to think that a Prem side would sign him, personally I think that’s far fetched at best.

We are flipping excrement

In his three stints as Grimsby Town manager spanning over 10 years the club was never relegated and he also guided them to three promotions.
Only 14 managers have reached 1,000 matches in charge of a Football League team by 1998 and Buckley is one of them.

HANSON YOU DONKEY intercourse OFF

Morais on for about 30 seconds and he's already smashing quality deliveries into their area. Rank stupidity from Hurst waiting until we go behind with 10 minutes left to finally bring on someone capable of an accurate cross.

The minute we allowed that flipping straw chewing girl private to sign Sunday league players, played zero more season games and the owner was more bothered about getting in to bed with a convicted fraudster our fate was sealed...

Negative selection and formation, setting up for their strengths rather than our own, stubbornness and late subs. Today has been all of the bad bits of Hurst’s first spell encapsulated.

Correct, but setting up defensively and with no width in order to let ourselves get passed off the pitch by Harrogate Town (ffs) can only be blamed on Hurst.

Still hoping we get the new manager bounce

Christ you all wanted him sacked a few months ago. 6th place finish and he's now the messiah and can do no wrong
Update:  I think I've got this right - He was the messiah. He then wasn't. He then was again. Then it turned out he actually wasnt. He turned into one big huge messiah again. Now he's not actually the messiah we thought he was . Now I'm hoping he rises again quickly

Burton quickly back from the dead.  Bradford close to the play-offs after their fans said that they were nailed on for relegation.  Plenty of Andy Cook goals.

Grimsby, well yes.  Or rather no.

Confirmed today
We aren’t playing well Enough to get any points
And the points gap is now getting to big
And other clubs forging results
Kings Lynn etc here we come next year
Absolutely Gutted

I remember going here for cup game a few seasons ago and we where confident of a result and we won 1-4 I think
How different the two clubs have been run since then

I think we're in this position because both clubs have been run consistently since those days. Their club well. Ours badly.

I said when Hurst was appointed that he was not the answer and I stand by that. I actually think we look worse than under Holloway, (and that's saying something) !

Anyone who thinks that this shower of sh1t can survive this season is deluded !

To think that I have seen this once great club beat and compete with Liverpool, Manchester City and Chelsea and now find us being outplayed by the mighty Harrogate Town saddens me greatly.

I'm done !

We've had plenty of lumps over the years who have scored for us. It's everyone else around them that makes the situation to score.

Poor formation and personnel choice cost us today. Play the players to win the game and we might actually win it.

Most of the players tried their hardest today, the tactics and formation hindered them. So Hurst has to take the blame today, not building on Tuesdays win.

The minute we allowed that flipping straw chewing girl private to sign Sunday league players, played zero more season games and the owner was more bothered about getting in to bed with a convicted fraudster our fate was sealed...

We’ve been a relegation side since October, anyone that disagrees is blind...

Holloway’s team wasnt great but they wouldn’t of got relegated and they’d easily beat this Hurst team any day of the week.

I'm done !

“Once great club” once “good” club and soon to be “twice” non league club.

Today was a debacle, the selection where wrong the players where f*****g useless, felt for Eastwood as he was the only one who put in a half decent performance.

I don't think there was anything to build on on Tuesday. We were lucky then. Perhaps the mistake WAS building on Tuesday.

That was a dire performance

A couple of half chances but that was it

Harrogate bossed it and in the end got a deserved win

Suppose the only consolation is that none of the others at the bottom won

Thats it play defensively with a stupid formation till the opponents score then go 442 with wingers and create more in 10 mins than we did in the previous 80, Sh1te management from ultra negative Hurst. This is why people were putting banners up on bridges before the 2nd leg of the playoffs.. Why the hell did he need to rotate they have only played 1 game in the last 17 days, does anyone seriously think he will keep us up     I await the xxxxxxxxxx

Because they had wide players who could cross a ball.....we had zero width at all today.

Wasted 45 mins with an over defensive formation that the players just couldnt get to grips with , Coke and El Miz completely anonymous....second half we pushed up , played a bit better , worked a few good situations but lack of quality in final third again.

Defensively alot more comfortable second half so frustrating we gave their wide man so much time to curl that ball in on the big mans head.

Late goal conceded by Barrow helps out but again with performances like that we arent staying up regardless of other results.

Completely agree, the only positive I can draw from this was when I saw the lineup I was on the verge of watching the game but when I saw that lineup I went to do some painting instead. It was nil nil or a narrow defeat and I was not going to pay to watch that crap. Gutless Hurst, come out fighting on Tuesday night

Dreadful performance, disastrous result.

Today was an opportunity to make up ground on teams above us. We blew it.

We have signed a complete new team, and still can't compete.

I thought when we gifted Stevenage the winner that we were doomed. I felt that more so when we allowed a dreadfully out of form Newport with 10 ten to beat us. (not sure they havebeaten anyone else since?).  We fluked a win on Tuesday despite playing shite. Today we were well beaten.

Today is the final straw for me. We had had it. We are going down.  To keep hoping in the face of all of the evidence to the contrary, is simply torturing yourself.

Us and Barrow are going down.

Every game you start off with (false) optimism to then be dumped on the floor again. Does both your head in and your blood pressure.
Best to expect relegation. I just do not have the nervous energy to invest in this team. No good blaming Hurst, the damage was already done. Failure to build on the small improvement we saw last season. Lower mid-table, wow. This season has never got going. Covid issues to begin with and now postponed games. Never had any momentum and I cannot see it starting now.
I won't have Hurst blamed. He was a saint to come back and give it a go. A manager is only as good as the players and I am sorry to say that these lads are.not good enough.
At the moment the club has problems from top to bottom and the rotten bits need cutting out and thrown in the bin. Otherwise we may not have a team at all.
I used to laugh at Donny and Lincoln when they were relegated to the Conference. I look at them now and marvel at the way they have bounced back. There used to be a time when I thought Lincoln were easy meat. Not any more.
I'll never support any other team but this is killing us.

I absolutely blame Hurst.

We were not in the relegation zone when he arrived, let alone rock bottom.

It was obvious he did not want to work with what he inherited, so that was a month or so lost.

He has signed a whole new team who he is "familiar with" who have proved to be as poor if not worse than the previous lot.

He had the fact that the takeover was going through, and the May saga had ended whilst Holloway was embroiled in it so he had a clean start there. He did not make the previous team any better and has signed a new team that cannot defend, cannot create and cannot score.

It was blindingly obvious from the other night that despite the win, we were absolutely atrocious, and the pattern was repeated today. What is he trying to do, and what are they working on in training?

The pitch, the rain, the wind, the ref, there is always an excuse. Even 'they had a man sent off'.

But the truth is that we are still, despite a dozen new players, not competitive.

I know we are poor, yes i know we are bottom, but we are not yet relegated (close it may be) . Why do some people come on the Fishy only after we have lost just to slag off the team and PH  etc etc.  Is it because they get some weird pleasure from it  and are they just waiting for the defeat to make comment. So if the same was said inside BP for a non performance would you say the same?
What do you find wrong about being passionate, wanting the best, a win and voicing your opinions. It's called freedom of speech and as long as it's justified by facts as in the abysmal load of rubbish call professional football today I can't see anything wrong in it.

If you don't like what you read switch off.

Zero.

How anyone can feel confident Hurst will get us out of this mess is beyond me.

It's pretty clear the only way we won't be playing non league footy next season is if NL fails to complete, it certainly won't be down Hurst.

Sorry, you are right. That was a cracking performance today and I'm sure we are all very proud tonight.

PS, you will not see me on Tuesday, I have more important things to do, like ironing my socks !

Ex Navy by any chance?

Answers on a postcard as to what positives Paul Hurst has had since he returned

I’m saving some time.

At least under Holloway it was worth listening to the post match interviews.

I may have said this before but goals win games and we have forward players who will struggle to score in a month of Sundays. Go on about creative midfield and speedy wingers if you want but what we really need is somebody who is a lucky bu99er in the box, puts the ball in the net off his nose, bum or any other protuberance.

The trouble always has been that Hurst is unwilling to indulge this kind of player even if he could have found  one in January.

I don’t care about how we play but whoever is the manager we must get goals to survive.

GT report
'Hurst though insisted he made his judgement based on Town’s opponents, and felt the game panned out just as he had anticipated' WE LOST

“You can see the pitch, it cuts up straight away, and you see how Harrogate play, and again that’s not a criticism, that’s just what they do more often than not."
Same for both teams and BP is not perfect

“We were a little bit too deep in terms of midfield players getting forward and a little bit narrow.
“When we changed that for the second half, I thought we were coming into it, and if anything probably felt like we’d got to a point where, certainly not dominating, but I thought we were the more likely winners."     Couldn't have watched what we saw

You’re our Mr Positive! If you lose hope we really are in trouble.

Let’s change the subject to something happier. Are you enjoying your wine and what is it?

I didn't say that. I am always full of hope and Monday night will be absolutely positive we'll beat Orient. But for now the red wine is very nice, happy time for me anyhow till the morning!!

Oh dear this is poor and it’s been the same since Christmas I think so many changes hasn’t worked might have been better to blend the best of what we had with new blood

whilst i agree with your first sentence i'm struggling to think who's been left out that will improve us. Spokes possibly, but matete has been excellent. Clifton, i'm afraid, wouldn't improve us and Hewitt, Hansen, Rose, Morais, Waterfall, Pollock and Hendrie have all been retained.
The problem is that whilst the new boys are generally an upgrade they're not enough of an upgrade to make much of a difference.
Menayese and Harbegham are prime examples - they're improvements on Idehen/Ohman and Preston, but still not good enough to make us into a competent 2nd division side. The Tunisian lad has been very disappointing, marginal at best whilst Adams and Payne have scored and made assists but they've only been effective in fits and starts

Sorry to say it's a bit like watching a F1 team at the bottom of their table with a clapped out car. Improvements make little if any difference so they have to wait for a new season to start. Fortunately for them their is no drop but for us !!!!!!!!!!

Just like an F1 car we are reliant on a suspension to save our season?

New spark plugs might help, or new set of boots, not to mention a bit of passing. Ultimately a red flag in the NL

The clubs owners needed to bring in 4 players who were on the periphery of the first team for a championship club. That was the only way I could see us avoiding relegation
What we ended up with is a load of players who couldn't make a non league/4th divisions team  . Who still must have cost a few quid
Seriously though, we were never going to sign 1st team players which means having to pay through the nose to bring quality in from the championship who wanted a pay day and first team football - 6month contracts 10k+ a week otherwise we end up with what we've got - the same as we already had
2million quid would have done it. You either want to avoid relegation to the conference or you don't. The new owners chose the latter

JF was never ever going to spend that type of money, or any other sort of money. As we write their is only one owner and that is Fenty. Without control in the boardroom no sensible person is going to stick £2 million quid into this club. We do not have new owners so they have not made any choice.

Yes you're right DB.
Mind you, the fans are not the owners but still managed to bank roll the club out of the conference. I know if Id agreed to buy a football club, I'd either have contract clause regarding relegation or Id do everything in my power to prevent it
Sensible people dont stand by and let a club they're investing in drop out the league

On the other hand if you don't like watching Town
Switch off and give us all a break from your Passion.

So why don't you want town to do well and stay up.

Are you a member of the prawn sandwich brigade, sounds like your comments would something like ' jolly good show old boy, never mind if it's too much effort we're going down so don't worry'.

Well Shankley53 young man your obviously illiterate to make such comments about me.

1/ If you had the gumption to see who made the post about me I was merely returning the compliment.
2/ I am usually criticised for being one the most positive persons on this site
3/ I was supporting Town probably before you were born so next time you want to have pop get mummy to change your nappy first so their isn't sh!te in your comments

The day after, still some optimism, flashes of Hurst shape starting to come back but lacking influential players, what’s happened to Harry Clifton? Yesterday was a perfect game for him.

Watched Greenland last night so losing to Harrogate becomes insignificant to a mass extinction meteor shower hitting the planet.
