Can’t see the logic in begging for 5 subs only to turn up with a bench like that. Surely Pollock & Windsor are injured?

Is that 6 changes to the starting XI and just 2 of those left out are on the bench Are the others injured? I'm particularly thinking Pollock

Holloway is just picking them out of his daft cap again, there's no rhyme or reason to it and clearly he's giving Saturday's team no chance to show what they could. Unless of course his excrement hot scout has told him what side and swet up to play

I cannot agree with the constant chopping and changing, it seems completely random to me. No Pollock, Windsor, Gibson or Williams. I can only see another defeat, I’m afraid, but I hope to be proven wrong.

Pollock and Windsor must surely be rested today

Wow, I really want Ollie to come good, but every game I can't make sense of what he's trying to do. If it was any other manager, this would stink of about to be sacked.

Anyone who saw Saturday and didn’t think some players needed sitting out tonight is drunk. Taylor was poor as was Williams a good few more too.

Batch, Crombie, Moore K, Wiggington, Cumming, Waters, Bonnyman, Ford, Emson, Drinkell, Whymark. Love you all, You are the reason I'm on here. You've had help from Todd, Handyside, Futcher P, Groves, Mendonca, Macca etc etc etc. Up The Mariners!!!!!!!!!

My wife said to me I'll watch the game until Town are losing then I'll read my book. She said jokingly I'll be reading my book after about 3 minutes.

She's reading her book after 4 minutes.

The deluded amongst you who thought could win tonight.

Wake up and smell the roses.

A poor team . Leaderless on the pitch and appearing to lack direction from the touchline.

Don't be taken in by Holloway's deflecting talk
IH is taking us one way.
Looking at the best route to Kings Lynn  next season.

There is plenty of time.
We haven't collapsed like the last game.
Should have been 1 each.
UTM

In his three stints as Grimsby Town manager spanning over 10 years the club was never relegated and he also guided them to three promotions.
Only 14 managers have reached 1,000 matches in charge of a Football League team by 1998 and Buckley is one of them.

well, Max has put two good crosses in and Green hasnt made them count.

We have plenty of players in defensive areas but they still have plenty of room, we are nowhere near them , ball watching massively when out of possession.

In his three stints as Grimsby Town manager spanning over 10 years the club was never relegated and he also guided them to three promotions.

We need to get the ball to Edwards but it’s not looking likely, we’re offering nothing in their half.

No I didn't say that at all, I said if we didn't ship 4 before half time Holloway would be claiming it was a victory (he's mad enough after all) and anyway unbelieveably we've actually scored a goal so anything even a miracle is possible. (Holloway will probably be talking qualification for Europe if we get another.)

Criticised for being positive now FFS!

Not a bad half that. Created 3 decent chances for Green and he’s managed to take one nicely. The headers were probably better chances.

Rose, Wright and Scannel getting plenty of the ball and making things happen.

We look vulnerable going the other way but we are right in this.

Well done Matt Green🎂
What's the odds on him finishing top scorer this season

Christ you all wanted him sacked a few months ago. 6th place finish and he's now the messiah and can do no wrong
Update:  I think I've got this right - He was the messiah. He then wasn't. He then was again. Then it turned out he actually wasnt. He turned into one big huge messiah again. Now he's not actually the messiah we thought he was . Now I'm hoping he rises again quickly

Well looked all but certain to be another hiding with that start, three 50/50's lost , no marking nice finish...Idehen looked shaky , overplaying at the back into trouble , nothing sticking up front , simple passes missing their targets, second to everything.
Out of nothing really an equaliser, well worked calmy finished by Green and we now look a different side on the ball, winning the 50/50's now, passing slicker and more positive.
Still tend to chase after en masse and watch the ball when out of possession leaving holes and players unattended but definatley game on now.

We're definitely mixing a bit tonight, on the floor/long ball.

I think Ollie reads The Fishy

Quoted from Ipswin
Is that 6 changes to the starting XI and just 2 of those left out are on the bench Are the others injured? I'm particularly thinking Pollock

Holloway is just picking them out of his daft cap again, there's no rhyme or reason to it and clearly he's giving Saturday's team no chance to show what they could. Unless of course his excrement hot scout has told him what side and swet up to play

His excrement hot scout clearly has told him how Crawley play and this time he appears to have got it right

Just the sort of reply that was demanded. Holloway will go on about this for hours (without threatening to quit)

Got 8/1 for Town win when 1 down

In his three stints as Grimsby Town manager spanning over 10 years the club was never relegated and he also guided them to three promotions.
Only 14 managers have reached 1,000 matches in charge of a Football League team by 1998 and Buckley is one of them.

Question is, do you take him off as he’s having a mare or will that knock his confidence. Risk keeping him on and he makes more mistakes, knocks his confidence?

Think we will see an experienced centre back arriving in January but if we can muddle through this season with those two playing regularly it’s great for either the future team or our bank balance 😀😀

I fear Pollock may go in January so even if we get an experienced CB in it will still leave us a bit thin there

Phew....off the line.

Changed my views of Scannell tonight.

When Leeds trainer Les Cocker was once told Norman Hunter had broken a leg, he asked: “Whose is it?”

Yessssss.......forget the first 30 mins....but what a difference a goal makes.  60 mins of what we want there. Positive in possession, fought for every ball and looked livelier in the last third.

What’s he moaning at the red for?

Just get the players in, blow some smoke you their bottom, get on the bus and take the three points. We battled well and worked hard second half.

Massive save from Macca and actually some clever play at the end winning cheap free kicks and wearing the clock down.

In his three stints as Grimsby Town manager spanning over 10 years the club was never relegated and he also guided them to three promotions.
Only 14 managers have reached 1,000 matches in charge of a Football League team by 1998 and Buckley is one of them.

Shame I missed most of the game as my friends decided to deliver me a TV stand, you can have that one on me 😂

Managed to catch the goals though, knew Green was looking like scoring.

3 points well deserved, UTM!

The big difference for me was we got the ball forward much more quickly than in recent games. Plus the running of Edwards and Wright and Scannell having his best game.

Also a great battling performance.

Let's have more of that

Great result for everybody including us. Think Rose looked more comfortable with Hewitt alongside him. Waterfall brilliant again. Nitpicking a little but I was literally shouting at the TV with Clifton who got into some great positions only to mess his final pass up. Scannell's best game as well.

Bloody marvellous! I'm delighted with that.

So who, or what, was The Difference?

Hewitt adding steel to midfield?

Scannell and Wright adding pace and putting the opposition on the back foot?

Inspired performances from Green, Rose and Waterfall?

Mixing it up with long balls and cutting out constant back passes to Macca?

Going 442?

Resting a few regulars?

All of the above?

Great team effort, no one played poorly, Max playing as a winger made a big difference. Liked that we ditched rolling the ball out 5 yards to defenders. Crawley were well organised but lacked anything more than banging the ball into the channels, where as we mixed it up and pushed forward more rather than sitting on the edge of our box, our midfield were tackling their players in the Crawley half all the time even before we scored.

Good win for Town that! I've only just seen the result.

I clicked on this Crawley match thread and was taken to page 1. Knowing the result and how we played, I had to laugh. Can I suggest everyone scrolls back to the first page of this thread and see how negative each poster was. Laughable

Good win for Town, 20 mins either side of half time we looked half decent and that extra bit of experience made the difference I reckon.

We lost 0-5 in the last game, were terrible, and poster after poster on here going crazy cos Holloway made several changes for tonight.

also. fair play to green. he hasn't given up trying all season. which is more than we can say about a lot of previous strikers we have had.

As the game was played during my wee hours, I couldn't see it.  Typical that we got a win.  Saw short highlights  It seemed like we played more intelligent football - not playing form the back when our defenders have a player up their backsides. Two decent goals.  I'm glad Green scored.  He works hard and he tool that well.

I cannot agree with the constant chopping and changing, it seems completely random to me. No Pollock, Windsor, Gibson or Williams. I can only see another defeat, I’m afraid, but I hope to be proven wrong.

So, so pleased to be proved wrong on this one. Well done to Ollie and the boys

I think Green plays well most games but as a striker he’s judged on his efforts in front of goal and they are somewhat lacking.

Last night he took his goal well and I think he used his experience to bring others along. Was actually quite impressed with him. Similar with Scanell, perhaps he wants away, perhaps Holloway wants him gone but playing well is likely to improve those chances so we can only benefit from that.

The first half was bizarre and then the second just kind of happened. Once they scored it seemed like the inevitable and perhaps they felt that too. Who could blame them? We dug in though and earned our goal and the game seemingly fell away from Crawley with Macca only having to make one save, albeit a great one.

I suspect next Tuesday could be a terrifying watch as Exeter once again seem a good side. Have the problems disappeared? Probably not? Are many of them likely too? Probably not but it’s a better feeling rocking up at work this morning with three points.

Despite scoring, it doesn't change my view on Green, he's not good enough if we want to challenge in the top half.
Having said that... he did have a good game.
His link up play does go unnoticed a lot. a couple of 1 touch passes into the wingers and the CB have been dragged out of position on to him, and the wingers are then running past him, and he did that well last night, so fair play to Green!

Defence still worries me slightly, but overall, they had a good solid game.

Rose become the league 2 Kante, he seemed to be faster than all the Crawley players, his reactions made a huge difference, and was intercepting passes before they've been made, incredible performance, one we've not seen from a town player for some time IMO, and that's not an exaggeration

Scannell looked a league 1 player tonight.
Confident, experienced, some quality one touch moves to disappear from defenders like they was never there.
a 'Typical' league 2 type player gets his head down and runs, he didn't, he looked up, had visions of the passes through the defence, and made some wonderful passes, was a genuine joy to watch at times.

Wright is the other one who deserves a special mention.
He looks to have a great future in the game. He's the type of player that can have a good game, even when the team are playing poor... deserved his goal!

The rest all played great, and everything just worked for a change!

Hewitt in the midfield with Rose gave Rose less physical work to do and disrupted the rhythm of the opposition which I don't think should be underestimated. Allowed Rose to put in his best performance for us. Going forward either Hewiit or Clifton (or both if we go with a three) should be in there with Rose to provide some physicality. Not sure where that leaves Taylor and Morton, probably at least one of them going back to their parent club in January.

Hopefully Wright will stay fit. Good pace, fantastic attitude and a bit of fight about him. It gives us something we've lacked recently. And if Scannell keeps playing like that as well we'll actually have the ability to get behind the opposition and stretch them.

Hewitt, Rose and Wright complimented each other and in my opinion should be the permanent midfield. Each plays a different role but work well together. If we have a solid midfield the attack and defence both benefit as was clear last night. If tactics have to change then we have Clifton and Tilley ready to step in.

I thought Max Wright was excellent. Really busy and he looks like he has got a bit more physical presence to me as well. I would like to see him get a proper run now. If Scannell can play like he did last night on a regular basis that makes a huge difference as well.

Noticed early on they pressed every short pass we made from the back, they’d obviously highlighted it. The good thing was we changed it up and went longer meaning they could do that a bit less. Looked loads better in that respect.

Very pleased IH took young Idehen off before he made another mistake which would have severely affected his confidence. He’s got promise but needs to be managed effectively, he didn’t have the best of games last night but he’s learning.

I think one thing that made a big difference last night was that Macca was more willing to thump the ball up the field rather than try to play like a sweeper when under pressure. It's ok to play out from the back when it's safe, but you have to mix it up. If you do it all the time the opposition just presses high and that induces mistakes in dangerous areas. At least if the strikers or midfielders don't win the ball from a big boot, the opposition is getting control in their own half, not in front of our goal.

Ideally you want to suck the opposition into pressing high, expecting the short pass and then bypassing them with a long ball. Once they stop pressing high, play it short again.

We clearly have some decent players. I think we should stop this constant rotation and play the best players, such as Edwards, Wright. Preston, Hendrie, Rose and maybe Windsor every game. These young guys should be easily capable of playing twice a week. A consistent team selection will help the team develop.
