Youth in the middle might be a worry, Harrogate my try to bully them but I'm quite happy with that line up

I don't mind Roy Keane making £60,000 a week. I was making the same when I was playing. The only difference was I was printing my own - Mickey Thomas

The area you are trying to protect at corners is the goal - Chris Kamara

Strongish looking bench as well but I wonder what’s happened to Scannell? He looked the goods in his brief appearances.

Solid start needed, so as not to gift an early goal away.

Hoof ball into Row Z, rather than any dodgy back passes or weak clearances.

More players getting a great chance to impress I H.

I hope they all.play well and give Ollie a massive selection headache !!

No idea. Last time I recall seeing him it seemed like nobody wanted to pass to him at all and he just sort of existed in the game feeding on scraps. Sure he was on the bench as an unused sub in another game but feel like a Vose situation is coming along where he looked good at the start then slowly gets phased out with a few anonymous performances where he may or may not have upset a few people and/or the manager.

Probably, only 5 loans in a matchday squad.

Yeah, but you'd have thought from recent performances he'd be the first loanee in the squad!

We had a bit of a downpour just before kick-off here in Cleethorpes, the players look like they are struggling with the slippy conditions.

Good start by them

Disagree with JT I don’t think a goal was coming but a Macca made sure he’d move the situation on, poor from a keeper his experience

That's the thing, he'll make a great save in the same game but because he made an absolute howler of a situation nobody will think about it

Fair play to McKeown (it needed saving but it was in no way a 'great' save!) but that was a really weak finish by Muldoon there

I was worried when the lineup came out about that midifeld and so far this half I think its been justified. Morton and Spokes are doing alright going forward but they're nit in the game defensively at all, its causing us all sorts of problems

Harrogate look a decent side, watched them play against Bradford and they fully deserved the win.

Come on Town.

Every single second ball seems to gravitate to one of their players. Apart from the goal we have not been able to string anything together as they always win the ball.

He pushed the ball out right to the feet of the incoming player!  Either get two hands to it or push it out wide of the goal. I don't know what it is with keepers these days, none of them want to get two hands to the ball!

Spokes is out of his depth that's for sure and Edwards going off didn't help. Macca is not as good as he thinks he is I'm afraid but he's probably the only one in Holloway's huge squad who is not at all worried about his place

It is 1-2, we are not out of it but Ollie needs to shuffle the pack and change formation for the second half, they are getting through at will down the flanks. May be a case of getting Hanson on early and start going more direct, play Gibson off him..

Poor first half. Middle of the park nonexistant. Lets go 442, get Hanson on for Spokes, get clifton in the middle with Morton, Tilley and Bennett wide. With Hanson on we can go more route 1 when Harrogate push up and stop us playing out the back. Tilley and Bennett will help cover our two wingbacks and getting Clifton in the middle will give us some much needed energy and drive there.

First time i've seen us play and it's only half time but I think we look OK. Harrogate are by far the better side and their movement and passing is brilliant. For me i agree with the commentators. I love a 433 as i've said on here before. Personally, i think we need to switch to that and continue to get the ball down but this time we'll have that extra man in the middle of the park to create space and an option.

Got to revert to 4-4-2  this system not working tonight.

Good goal by Tilley the only bright spot for us apart from the grass.

Well done to the groundsman he has improved the playing surface 100% since the start of the season.

I’ve noticed that , I’m sure what was bread and butter saves years ago are now all punched or parried rather than caught , it’s the same from crosses and corners , keepers used to jump up and pluck the ball no problems from a corner and nine time’s out of ten if they dropped it the ref would give a free kick

Gibson not doing enough to hold the ball up and keep possession in attacking areas and the ball just keeps coming back into our final third.

He’s not making those runs into the channels either in order to turn their centre backs.

Good prospect IMO but not a lone striker - he looks a bit lost.

Getting a job done on us by a very organised, fit and lively team, very impressed with them.
Having said that our shape and selection isnt helping, Spokes and Morton running in treacle in the middle,  Clifton isnt a wing back.
Harrogate clearly know we want to play from the back and have pinned us down exposing our lack of centre half ball ability.

Lucky to be still in it, a good half time shake up needed here.

I thought Maccas position on the second goal was suspect which meant that he struggling straight away.

We’re missing Williams and Rose. Would prefer Green to Gibson (he’s won nothing all night). Hopefully, Hanson’s got 45 minutes in him. Tilley, Pollock, Waterfall and Clifton have done okay - the rest rubbish.

That was awful let's make no mistake.

Clifton needs moving into the centre as Morton and Spokes can not play together, Spokes in particular looks way way way out of his depth both on the ball and off the ball (yes I know it is his first game) Morton  looks tidy technically but he needs the right partner alongside him, nothing is sticking up top, we need Hanson on to hold the ball up, improvement needed

Think too many changes being made . These are pro footballers and should be able to play twice a week .. I know some are young , but if your not fit when you are young you will never be, We are not out of it but changes in shape are needed for the second half without a doubt

They are simply stronger and quicker than us, Their players also seem to be able to turn easily and run off ours, while we seem to be sliding around on our ahses all the time. Spokes/Morton not strong enough as a pair, get Clifton in there,

Agree with that - best chance with available personnel - play to Hanson (if he is fit enough) and hope he can can hold up the ball to enable us to push up

I'm not sure Holloway has got whats needed on the bench to win this, the match winners are being 'rested', the sooner he sorts a first team out and sticks to it the better. If they are fit they shoud be able to play twice a week surely

Too many players out of their depth and simply not up to it. He can't afford to mix it up so much that too many players like Spokes, Morton and Bennett play in place of those who did the business in the last couple of games. Pick 14 or 15 and stick with them please!

Their players certainly know how to roll around, had a bit of admiration for how they are doing back in the league but gone right off them tonight.

So so so sloppy everywhere. It's not like they're doing anything other than closing down quickly but we don't have anyone on the pitch with the composure to turn away from the pressure and make them pay. Windsor, Edwards and Williams are all capable of it but they're all either being rested or injured.

Oh just as I wrote this Tilley just turned his man and got the defender booked for hacking him down. More of that please!

I can't understand why he didn't start tonight

Don't see the point in keeping him for Saturday any more than tonight That said looking at tonights joke set up I wonder if Holloway still (wrongly) underestimates Harrogate and looks at them as a little non-league team

Hope someone posts those individual passing charts for all our players again for this match. Would be very interesting to see cos I've got the feeling some of them are struggling to compete even half their attempted passes tonight...!

Even I’m not so sure about Macca now , I think they call it the halo effect ?
Yes he’s been a good servant but he’s making mistakes in every game now .
If we had someone pushing him we might know if all keepers make as many mistakes

Are we seriously blaming this on Macca? Scapegoat much? We've been second best all over the pitch, Harrogate a good strong and direct side, pressing well and we can't string two passes together or create anything. We give the ball away constantly.

Lots of young skinny whippets getting frustrated easily and fouling them, nobody getting hold of the ball and creating chances. Losing Edwards early has killed us because he usually is the one who runs with the ball.

I’d file his performance tonight under ‘weird’. Not quite sure what’s the matter with him, he’s looked like he’s never played in goal before at times.

Very strange.

Thankyou Kris beat me to it. OK Macca made a mistake for the first maybe could of done better for the 2nd but he hardly had any support from the 10 infront of him. The midfield pairing of Spokes and Morton is whats hurt us today.

Why is the i Follow about 10 minutes behind real time? Listened to some scunthorpe scunt on Humberside while the second half was 5 minutes old! I don't want to listen to Humberside while we're playing and I'm paying!!
I'm getting upto date reaction on here and losing interest in watchin the game, mainly because it's so poor!

I’m not excusing what was a pretty odd team selection but I expect better of an experienced League 2 keeper who also happens to be club captain.

The first one sure, he should have let that go out. Need to look at how many chances they are getting from mistakes and us losing the ball or fouling them in bad positions where they can do a set piece.

Off night and nothing more but one where we just contributed to our own downfall.

Selection didn’t work and losing Edwards didn’t help but the way Ollie is having to play his deck at the moment it’s going to be like this at times for a bit.

They’ve been together for a while, had a short break and well organised and we helped make them look better than what they are at times poor ball retention.

Mentions in despatches for Tilley, Clifton and the CB’s the rest looked off it.

Response required on Saturday which I’m sure we’ll see.

Still laughing at the Scunts who have helped cushion the blow of defeat tonight.

UTM!!

Town played like they had been sat in a bus driving up and down the country all week.I

Let's put it down to that and hope we pick up again on Saturday.

Tilley Waterfall and Pollock the only ones who played well.

Well first goal he kept the ball in when he should of just left it and gave the striker an open goal and second his positioning was shite, so yes am nlamong macca tonight dont get me wrong weve been shite all round but his defaintly at fault for the goals

And what led to those situations happening? Should have let it run out for the first but how was the ball there in the first place? Not much he could do with the second one so I don't know what all these armchair goalkeepers are going on about. Please do correct me if wrong with evidence but afaik none of you have ever been a professional goalkeeper. School team maybe, Sunday league kick about at best but really you're just giving the opinion of somebody who has never done this. Outfield has put him in the excrement and under pressure all game due to poor passing, fouling and our defenders constantly being done by them and letting them through.

We still take an hour to do a throw in because of the lack of movement and it's affected the passing all evening too. Just feels like typical Town through the years, couple of good away performances then excrement the bed for the home game.

With many many home and away match results turning on their heads across all leagues this season, maybe we should expect more results from the away games than from the home games.

Well beaten. Harrogate well organised and won at a canter. Edwards early injury didn't help. For all the squad we have the bench was poor. Only positive point is we were numerically in it until the end.

Is it just me or does anyone else this Holloway over complicates things? Arguably our two best players from Saturday, Windsor and Williams weren’t even on the bench, and Williams had only played 70 minutes. Still I’m sure he knows what he’s doing and is still learning about his squad, and finding out what works and what doesn’t.

That's like most seasons though, feels more fun to go to away days and see better performances than the drab affairs at home.

Very disjointed performance tonight. Just didn’t get going.
Don’t know if it was poor team selection or a good display from Harrogate. Or both.

Town played like they had been sat in a bus driving up and down the country all week.I

Let's put it down to that and hope we pick up again on Saturday.

Tilley Waterfall and Pollock the only ones who played well.

Defensively you're right about Waterfall and Pollock Pete but their aimless / inaccurate long balls just gave Harrogate possession which was no good as we can all see they're good at keeping the ball

If they'd taken their chances they could have had 5 or 6.... we just got the one from a Tilley pot-shot. Not much else on show from us going forward

Might have been a different game if Edwards hadn't had to go off but I'm clutching at straws maybe.... Harrogate out-thought us and out-played us. Well done to them - they deserved the win

Really hope fans don't get on their backs after that.

Yes it was poor from start to finish, but after the last three weeks, and the last three games, who can blame them for having an off day
We looked tired almost from kick-off, and Edwards seemed to take the very little wind we had, out of our sails.

Amazed that Clifton can still move let alone run for 90 minutes again.
Tilley looked good in flashes, and took his goal very well.
Pollock & Waterfall looked solid again.
Yes, Macca at fault for first goal, but how many times has he quite literally saved us before?

Chin up lads, you're still doing us proud. We all have bad days at the office.

Wouldn't mind being a fly on the wall in that dressing room though.

We had no chance of winning with that midfield - not one decent forward pass all match - can't control the ball  -  can't even run very fast.  Time Olly picked his first team and stuck with it for a few games

Me too - just watching Ollie being unhappy at the end, 10 minutes after the Fishy people saw it and I'm watching it 'Live'!!

2 steps forward, 1 step back. Typical Town, but very much a work
in progress, whereas Harrogate are well drilled and confident. Feels shoite losing to them though in our first league meeting.

Think I read somewhere that there has been a lot more away wins in this strange season, with no fans.

Clearly, some of our young players are not up to speed for League 2 football yet. Lot of inexperience out there.

Absolutely the wrong time to have a look at Spokes. Morton not a centre mid. Ludicrous playing out from the back at goal kicks when Harrogate were pressing so well. Too early to sub Bennet when Spokes was looking lost. Bad decisions all around the pitch and in the dug out! Gibson has promise but he has to retain possession better. Hendrie sluggish and dithery. Did Harrogate have longer studs or simply play the conditions so much better? Still lacking leaders especially in midfield. Losing Edwards was a real blow.

Shocking performance. Spokes no where near ready for league football, Morton a little better but needs some experience alongside. Think that was a game too far for Preston/Clifton and especially Hendrie just weren't on their game. Gibson needs balls he has a chance of chasing but always too long. Gomis looked ok when he came on. Waterfall/Pollock did a decent job, Tilley looked bright. We were too lightweight (literally) and inexperienced. Ollie must get a core of 7 experienced players and pick the kids to play around them. Harrogate didn't need to make 5/6 changes and they just played Tues/Sat/Tues

Got the bench wrong didn't he? No centre mid on there where we most needed to change it. Surely Rose, Williams or Taylor were fit enough to be a sub. I know Bennett has a good pedigree and I'm sure he will be a decent player for us in time but he looked like a competition winner tonight.

Some really good points there. Spokes looked really  out of his depth in his only previous start and I had assumed he would be a 'body' - making up the numbers on the sub bench when required and only used if necessary or  when a game was effectively over to get some experience. At least for the first few months anyway. Poor decision to start him in a midfield 2, with another at best ordinary player, against a clearly very well drilled team that's going well. Bad decision that backfired badly. But worryingly a really obviously bad decision.

Thought the major problem with our team was the spine. Macca had a mare, don't see why Pollock is getting a pass, he was garbage tonight (got the wrong side of the defender too many times) Spokes, Morton and Bennett were dire and Gibson looks like a National League North striker. Hendrie had a stinker too.

I actually can't remember a pass that wasn't misplaced. Waterfall and Tilley were good and Gomis looked fairly lively when he came on.

Anyone know what's happened to Scannell?

Hear a lot about our fitness levels but our back 5 plus Clifton played pretty much the last 4 games, whilst Scannell and Moshni who have now been with us for best part of two months are still not fit enough to start, or appear on the bench in Scannell’s case, which I find a bit mystifying.

Agree that this midfield was out of its depth and should have been tried in the Cup game v Hull not a L2 game v a side Holloway spoke of in glowing terms pre match. Gibson should play alongside either Hanson or Windsor to get the best out of him and not having either Williams or Windsor on the bench was strange and a bit naive for a Manager of Holloway’s experience.

Stated before I don’t expect the “real town” to be sorted until mid November but thought tonight’s selections didn’t help our cause but maybe IH just needed to see how some of the young players performed without having their hands held, well he knows now so onward to Saturday and maybe a much better performance and result.

Well just listened to the post match interview and whilst the team was selected yesterday it was pretty evident because of the personal tragedy that IH had suffered, through his best mate’s suicide, he was probably not at the races during the game. Suicide is always such a shock and even more so when it’s a close mate so Ollie may need a bit of leeway from us all this week.

Just listened to Ollie's interview after the game... sounds like he needs a few days off, poor bloke.

Everyone needs time to grieve. He may want to keep going, and focus on football to get him through this difficult time, knowing the sort of bloke he is.

I'm sure the club would offer him a bit of time to deal with his awful news.
