Says 5-3-2 on the OS but expected to be a 4-1-3-2 with Rose shielding back 4 with Taylor, Williams and Clifton behind the front 2. No place on the bench for Hanson (assume then he will start tuesday) or Gomis (probably as he has not trained with us yet and due to loan limitations.

We start the game in the same place we was this morning as results in our favour and scunny getting stuffed 5-0

Cmon Mariners we can do this!!!

Looks a bit more of a "solid" selection than the other night. 4-4-2 ?

No natural width in there.

Let's hope they perform as well as Tuesday.

Fuckin ouch
No neeeeed 🙂

In his three stints as Grimsby Town manager spanning over 10 years the club was never relegated and he also guided them to three promotions.
Only 14 managers have reached 1,000 matches in charge of a Football League team by 1998 and Buckley is one of them.

Both goals came from defences falling asleep. Going to be a game of who has the tighter defence probably as not much else in it.

I live in Birmingham, all my mates are villa or blues fans. None of them understand why I care about a Grimsby game so much, I flipping love it! This game is peaking my emotions

Clifton looks to be getting better under Ollie.

What's happening Kris, is it just saltynous from the Os lead by Turley the dirty git.

Seem more interested in arguing with the ref and each other than winning the game at this point. They started strong and we came back into it and took control then a few decisions didn't go their way and some handbags, now they are throwing fits left and right. Wouldn't be surprised if one of them goes off.

Think we had the mental edge there. Quite pleased with it so far. Some lovely silky stuff in the middle section of the half. Bit worried by the tendency to start passing it back.

HT...Orient 1-2 Town

We might go on to lose this but some good stuff by Town.

Get Edwards on second half.

I think we’ve looked miles better than Orient, if anything I’m disappointed because if we had Edwards and Tilley in the same form as they were on Tues we’d probably be 3-4 up by now.

Really promising half.

Really enjoyed that  Preston looking very sharp as are Clifton and Windsor, midfield looking composed only criticism is we are letting Orient back into it once we stopped breaking out down left wing with Preston.

We seem to have 2 decent teams! 😆 Orient should have had at least another 2 yellows, ref a bit lenient imo.

Playing good football, not always coming off but the effort is there and 2nd goal a cracking pass from Windsor. Green well unlucky the keeper saved his header, A card happy ref would have a few Os in the book so far (bunch of thugs) though can't see them getting a red card any more than Green getting one if they keep nibling at him and throws a punch/elbow.

Really enjoying the way are playing, attractive, passing, mixing long n short but, there has to be a but, Matt Green is offering very little, he look like he's running in treacle and I think he's getting frustrated, more because he's probably coming to the realisation he's not at the races now.

Town look good coming forward. As fitness improves looking forward to us hammering a few sides. George Williams looks class - great
deliveries from corners. Clifton a threat coming forward on the right - Preston a threat coming forward on the left. Leyton Orient exploiting a lenient  ref at the moment. Hope no one gets seriously hurt and Town can continue to play some attractive football

We've looked far better then Orient this hafl, our passing and movement has been beautiful at times so far. A sloppy goal to concede in the first half, beautiful through ball to Wilkinson who wasn't followed though by his man I think it was Taylor or Rose following him. Great headed goal by Waterfall, was really worried that was going to dribble out would just be Grimsby Town luck if it had. Then our 2nd was almost identical to theirs a beautiful weighted pass through the defence and a sublime finish by Williams.

I still don't see what Green brings to the side even when he made that header I never expected it to go in. Taylor is a little anonymous. The back 3/4 what ever it is looking solid except for that one pass The midifeld 4/5 are clossing down quick and surrounding Orient players before they can pass the ball and then in possession like I've already said the pass and move football is beautiful. Windsor and Williams have looked great up top both looking creative and getting in and behind Orients defence.

I don't mind Roy Keane making £60,000 a week. I was making the same when I was playing. The only difference was I was printing my own - Mickey Thomas

The area you are trying to protect at corners is the goal - Chris Kamara

Going 1 up front and more of a flat midfield 5 is hurting us.

Have they taken Wilkinson off??
He was their best player in the second half.

In his three stints as Grimsby Town manager spanning over 10 years the club was never relegated and he also guided them to three promotions.
Only 14 managers have reached 1,000 matches in charge of a Football League team by 1998 and Buckley is one of them.

What a run Windsor! Clear penno they'd been trying to foul him for 15 yards then

Before their pen shout, their second goalscorer slid outside the box and controlled it with his hand. We should have had a free kick

I think we just bout deserved that.  We let them play a bit too much in the second half , A good all round performance.  Pollack was class and Clifton was everywhere again.  He's like a terrier.

Well done IH and the boys.
Fighting display with some top footy to boot.
Things going out way with this handball malarkey

In his three stints as Grimsby Town manager spanning over 10 years the club was never relegated and he also guided them to three promotions.
Only 14 managers have reached 1,000 matches in charge of a Football League team by 1998 and Buckley is one of them.

Good win, picked up in a second half where we were on the backfoot and it only took one bit of desire from Windsor who's been brilliant all game. If Gibson didn't bury that penalty I think both Windsor and Holloway would have killed him because Windsor wanted that. We seemed to struggle to get into the game second half, couldn't get the ball and when we did couldn't keep hold of it but we'll have games like this and we need to keep going as we did today. I'm sure Orient will feel we had the rub of the green on decisions and maybe we did but we've had games were it goes against us too, it happens. Their player handballed it before we did so if anything that was a free kick.

First half as good a display from a GTFC team I have seen in a long while
Rose went off half time - class act - not sure why, but we lost our control

Then too many sloppy passes etc

But the best teams stick in there and grab a winner

We are looking very classy and have a threat up top

Very young team - there will be bad moments, mistakes etc but it's a a learning process

Penalty was top notch
Williams finish was pure class
Windsor and Harry were tremendous

We can do something exciting this season I think

Weren't great second half but kept at it and brilliant run from Windsor to earn the penalty and a bit of luck at the end by the looks of it.

The season is up and running for Town now.

Did not watch the game, pleased that we came from behind, then they draw level, kept going to the end and scored in Fergie time for the second time. Having not played or trained together for two weeks, then playing away three games in a week and taking 7 points shows commitment and attitude. as well as alot of planning. Well played, now we need to reproduce the away form at home.

It's gonna be a rollercoaster under IH. We'll concede goals but we'll score a few too. Hopefully, more often than not, we'll come out on top. It aint gonna be boring is it?

Winning teams tend to get the rub of the green more often than not and it's a good sign that we are scoring late goals, it's what teams on the up do.

I can't wait to see what we are like once everyone is up to speed and we have a settled side. We have some really good players to come in yet as well.

Buzzing!

Got to give them some credit for the fightback in the second half after being on the ropes at half-time.

Another fantastic result tonight, an unbelievable 7 points this week when i genuinely think we'd have been delighted with 3.

Some of the football we played in the first half was proper lovely. If we'd have been able to keep up that passing and pressing for 90 minutes, we'd have blown them away.
Waterfall and Pollock looked solid after the early blip for their opener
Preston, again, looked so dangerous down the left, particularly in the first 45, and his delivery is a real weapon for us.
Williams had his best game in a town shirt so far, some lovely movement finding the gap between the lines.
Windsor was brilliant, and that run for the penalty was so strong, even without him having sprinted round for 90 minutes beforehand.
We looked a real threat from set pieces too, which is great to see.
We rode our luck at times with the ref, which makes a nice change, but the endeavour and energy deserves the points and the plaudits.

Once again, a huge well done to the lads, to Ollie and the staff. I can't wait to watch this time from the stands.

What an atmosphere it would have been. We certainly have a plethora of raw talent, I'd rather have players on the way up every day than 30 something has beens.

We seem to have a full team of players that are comfortable on the ball , even our cents backs can pass a man and its great to see every player in space and wanting the ball.
I think back to some of the games under Newell , Woods and even Hurst when players hated being given the ball when an opponent was nearby .
Ollies teams are great to watch and yeah theres a few heart in mouth moments but I've never been so happy to have to pay for a TV subscription

Good game, can watch that every week some good football a few decent tackles and a lot of never give up endeavour, We will win some 3-2 and lose some 3-2 will be lots of heart attacks on the way but give me this rather than Jolly/Slade/Hurst any day. No one played badly, Windsor and Harry outstanding.

It's a big change to have some talented players who look like they are going somewhere rather than bringing in some veteran player looking for a payday to go through the motions week in and week out while managers hope they reproduce their one really good season.

1st half all over them bar one moment of madness when they slipped through early, beautiful pass and move football on display with the adittion of the odd long and cross field ball to keep their defence honest.

2nd half, change of formation Rose comes off and we spend 90% of the game pinned in our own half, concede the ventual goal we could all see coming. Flat midfield and only 1 up top creates zero outlets, lovely pass and move football gone and long balls just land to Orients back 4. Great break by Windsor eventually brought down after 15 yards of fouling and we get away with a win in the end.

Windsor, Clifton or Pollock as my MoM

I don't mind Roy Keane making £60,000 a week. I was making the same when I was playing. The only difference was I was printing my own - Mickey Thomas

The area you are trying to protect at corners is the goal - Chris Kamara

Although we defended a lot in the second half, we did hit the woodwork twice. Can't remember Macca making a save in the 2nd half either. Orient huffed and puffed IMO.

Agree with this completely. For all their possession in the second half we still looked dangerous at set pieces (as hitting the woodwork showed) and Macca had nothing to do.

I thought he was a tad soft sometimes but I couldn't say he was a bad ref at all, never picked a side let play continue when it could etc etc

Is this the midfield pairing we have been looking for for donkeys years???

In his three stints as Grimsby Town manager spanning over 10 years the club was never relegated and he also guided them to three promotions.
Only 14 managers have reached 1,000 matches in charge of a Football League team by 1998 and Buckley is one of them.

Fantastic game, great peformance and superb goals. Clay giving away the pen was fitting. Yes it should have been a handball for them at the end. Great performances all round.

No penalty for them, watch it again their player pushes the ball into the penalty area with his hand, should have been a free kick to us.

Up to 15th with a game in hand, which if that game in hand wasnt in the middle of December, could potentially put us up to 11th, above the likes of Salford, Bradford, Exeter, and all season long, the Scunts

Both he and Mattie have really kicked on since last season. In the first half our passing and ball retention was really impressive. I not going to get too excited about a play-off push, it's a very inexperienced squad, but they are great to watch and I'll be stumping my tenner on a regular basis...

Young players often or generally improve.  We have a lot of young players this season (starting with 15 year olds) so great potential for the squad/team to get better during the season.

Again, credit where it’s due, we played well for the majority of the game.

Edwards was affective again as was Windsor. Never been a fan of Clifton but fair play to the lad, he’s been playing really well and looks to have a new lease of life...

Completely bonkers on Coronavirus.

He’s a bloke in his late 50s with a wife at home, presumably of a similar age. He is working primarily with athletes in their late teens to mid-thirties, in effect a cohort most likely to show no symptoms when carrying the virus.

I can understand why Covid is playing on his mind.

Ollie needs to stick to getting youths to run through walls for him, and I hope Fenty doesn't suggest his plan higher up in the Party, its the sort of thing that might strike a chord with them - infect all northern youths...

Unless I've missed it, I don't think any scientist has supplied conclusive proof that you can't get coronavirus twice. In fact, I've read online reports of some people having it twice.

I don't really know what to believe. Everyone has ideas of how to manage the virus but unfortunately we all have to abide by the current laws until told otherwise.

Anyway — brilliant result, great first half performance and some top individual showings to keep us all really happy this weekend. We've got a squad big enough to rotate through these hectic weeks into 2021, lets see if we have the quality to keep picking up results.

I've been a little critical of our squad size in the last week or two, but I guess this is where the value will come through. We've got the likes of Scannell and Wright to come back into the reckoning, so the depth is probably there.

My ifollow was slightly behind and I looked down at my phone to send a message (about the penalty of course) and got a sky notification that we'd scored. Ruined it!

Aye. You’d think we’d be immune to the common cold by now but we keep getting it. Fortunately it’s not one of the deadlier coronaviruses, like, ooh let me see, Covid-19.

Bolton player’s run shown in full from the halfway line.  Windsor’s was not ( on Quest).

They did say that what we had achieved in the last week was incredible.  (After not training for the previous 2 weeks).

No penalty for them, watch it again their player pushes the ball into the penalty area with his hand, should have been a free kick to us.

I haven't seen it again yet but I saw that on the first viewing. The thing is the ref didn't I presume, so therefore the ball was still live (from the ref's point if view) when it struck Pollock. I fully agree that there was a hand ball by them if the ref didn't spot it then we were very lucky to get away with ours.

Holloway talks about how he was unhappy with our 2nd half performance in his post match interview, which is fair enough, but don’t remember McKeown having a save to make.

If the ref didn’t spot our handball they were equally lucky that he did didn’t  spot their handball just before. Once you use terms like ‘luck’ then you have to apply the same term to other situations too. Given that their ‘good luck’ led to our ‘good luck’ you’d have to say it evened out. The second situation would not have arisen if the first had been spotted. I don’t feel we were in the least bit fortunate.

Ah yes the widely discredited herd immunity theory. A quick bit of internet research On the ONS website suggests that the death rate for under 24s is only 0.22%. The problem is around 20% of the UKs population is under 24, which is 13.4m people. Let’s say 3.4m people in this age group have already had it, the death rate could potentially be 10m x 0.22% = 22,000 deaths. I suspect John is not quite as clever as Holloway thinks he is. I’d certainly prefer my 21 year old son didn’t get it thank you very much, as some of our kids may just be one of the unlucky ones.

Well....3 games, 7 points, 6 goals....pretty good week given the 3/4 weeks previous weeks.

Been treated to a couple of cracking games this week, full of effort and energy and entertainment. Today, similar to the Cheltenham game, we pressed high and hard, great to see the effort and application from whoever is selected. Ollie obviously instilling a good ethic.
Slightly worried by the starting 11 on first viewing, didnt look lively enough for me attack wise and after conceding early i feared the worst....but the team responded very well and bossed the rest of the half, played some nice attacking football and never let Orient settle.
Green unlucky with the awkward header but Waterfall making sure from the subsequent corner, Williams ( a much much much improved display today ) finishing off a lovely pass with an assured finish.

Whether it was the break, the half time substitution or tiredness we didnt get going second half , and eventually they deservedly equalised. Although under the cosh we still looked as though we could do something if we could just relax or find the right pass, wasted some very good opportunities and when it looked like we were heading for a point Windsor summoned up the energy to drive and carry the ball 40/50 yds and everybodys favourite O 's player Clay clumsily brought him down.

As Les said earlier....never a doubt when Gibson took the ball and placed it on the spot   ...haha.

Rode our luck at times but as someone once said...the harder you work the luckier you get......and Waterfall ......surely needs to be in the next X- Men movie as he clearly has an invisible arm

All played their part today, worked hard and were rewarded for it.

The difficult job is going to be keeping them all happy.

Great week. 4 points off the play offs and relegation zone now!

If we got our positive case now and had Bradford next week I bet they would fully support us postponing the fixture.

There’s so many games that even when the unfit players come back then everyone should be involved at some stage. It looks like Ollie is trying to establish a pattern on play that people can drop in and out of.

Also the strategy of brining in loans and free agents which are both usually cost effective means that we can have a squad size to cope with the congestion.

When you think that Hanson, Wright, Scannell, Moshini and the lad from Bristol Rovers weren’t involved yesterday then things could develop even further.

What I’ve enjoyed in the last few games is the Young lads the likes of Taylor, Tilley, Edwards, Preston, Pollock, Windsor etc.. all just giving It a dammed good go and looking fearless.

Amazing to think that Harry Clifton in terms of 1st team experience Is in reality a senior pro in some of our starting line ups...... well kind of.

Have just watched the extended highlights and I am/was impressed.

I think the fitness levels for the majority of players are way up there now. The team never stopped running. Yes our shape changed and chances dropped after Rose was substituted, but it was not for the lack of effort.

Surprisingly, the BIG talking point, Matty Pollocks clear handball (after their handball) wasnt even included in the highlights, but then cut to Embleton remonstrating (I never thought I would use that word on a Sunday morning) with the 4th Official, and Ollie stepping up and seemingly agreeing with Embletons protestations (bluddy hell I am like a thesaurus this morning)

This weeks perfromances have been pulchritudinous to watch

Quick, get me on Countdown

Having just watched the extended highlights from Tuesday and yesterday, can see we have some very bright young prospects in the squad, but Windsor looks the brightest of them all at the moment. He looks very strong and very clever. He's already scored one, made one and won us a penalty, which turned 1 point into 3.

Hope he's fit enough to play again on Tuesday, because he's a right handful.

Also listened to the post match and I'm not so enamoured of the Prof Fenty herd immunity theory. Stick to planning meetings John.

Quest discussed Mattie’s handball and said it was a penalty. They did not highlight the incidents immediately before that.  (Our game was the last on the show and the potential pen was the very last action commented on).  Appropriate as the last action in our match.

It’s interesting that people have been impressed with Town’s recent performances on the basis of watching the highlights. I was thinking last night after watching the extended highlights that they don’t even begin to capture the quality of Town’s football. If you subscribe to iFollow, it’s well worth watching the full replay.

I definitely see shades of a young Martin Paterson in Owen Windsor. Not just the buzz cut and direct running, but his general work rate, constantly tracking back and trying to win the ball. He just looks so hungry to be involved in the game.

We have some exciting young players in the squad, the kind who would get you off your seat were you allowed to sit in it in the first place.

Interesting to see the conversation ahead of the penalty; seems there was quite a robust conversation about who would take it!  Thankfully Gibson won that discussion.  I'm never a fan of changing the chosen penalty taker on-field - I would assume all pro-clubs have an agreed set of takers.

Indeed Ipswin, and precisely the reason he should not have been allowed to take it; discipline and sticking to the plan are sometimes necessary.

Lets hope after 3 decent away results we dont balls up at home as usual on Tuesday (although of course, is there really a concept of home-advantage this season?)

It was clear in the Bolton game that his work rate is immense. The other qualities we’ve seen dice suggest he might be quite the player. He was a real bright spark yesterday, his pass for the goal and his effort for the team was great.
Important for everyone to remember he’s only a kid and his form might be up and down.

Thought the move for the 3rd goal was very much like a team Buckley goal. Couple of lovely passes and touches, and excellent  running off the ball at pace. Great stuff.

Yep, fair points. While I accept the risk to this age group is low, I suppose it’s who the under 25s pass it on to in the older age groups, especially if they are asymptomatic, when  we are without adequate testing or track and trace - it’s not a risk free strategy. I agree it’s a moot point though and it was only being discussed as it was mentioned in Holloway’s post match interview. Apologies to everyone for going off topic though in what’s been a thoroughly good week results wise.

Bit concerning that Green only made 4 successful passes out of 8.  Needs to get involved more.

85% pass completion from Rose. Only one half of football and admittedly a half we dominated, but that’s a great effort for a midfielder at League Two level.

Can someone explain that penultimate graphic to me? Is it good, bad or indifferent? And which way are we kicking?

I saw your face and heard you call my name.
Oh my friend we're older but no wiser,
For in our hearts the dreams are still the same.

Compare it to the Cambridge one and it looks very sparse in the opposition penalty area. Mind you they were playing the Scunts.....
