Town have a difficult season ahead going on this performance. Skillful new players but very lightweight for this division

Scannell, Wright, Gibson all could have taken a penalty. So why the f.uck did McKeown take the 5th??
Scannell and Wrights legs had gone Gibson might be excrement at penos we don't know. Maybe Macca was confident and completely fluffed it

You'd have thought Gibson would be desperate to register his first goal for Town - strange he hasn't put himself forward.

Given that our best bet looked like penalties you'd have thought we'd have ended up with 5 outfield players who were willing to take one under minimal pressure on the pitch. Unless McKeown had had a lifelong ambition to score the winning penalty and thought this was the moment.

I think we looked decent considering our lack of pre-season. First half we were good with the ball. Defending was a bit iffy but got better as the game went on. Obviously we were knackered after 60 minutes, but they have had their squad together longer and played a couple of actual friendlies. I think we'll be fine, but a couple of players short of a push at the moment. A couple more the quality of Scannell though and we'll be laughing!

Beaten due to a lack of experienced subs and fitness. played some good stuff in the middle 40 mins of the game. thought Khouri looked quite capable when he came on, and Williams scary with his pace and skill if he can come on when his team mates are still capable of running to keep up with him. Pollock and Scannell pick of the team and Preston will only get better. More youths to be tried out on Tuesday I assume, but got to ask the question what the hell was he doing starting with a midfielder/winger at right back and player with much experience in that position in midfield. I expect some red Xs for not licking IHs bottom.

We looked like what we are, a team of strangers that haven't played together and are not match fit. In the first half, after a slow start we played some good football. We had 67% of possession in the first half. We just never got going in the second half.
Some good signs there, especially Scanell, William's and Preston. Pollock and Waterfall looked solid, (apart from the backpass).

It “might“ only be £5k but it was a competitive game and I would like to think everyone connected to town would want to win. Can understand the early try out with Wright and Hewitt but with Macca taking a penalty is unforgivable, if he was that good a taker then why hasn’t he taken one before ?

Hewitt has played centre midfield before, and in his only outing there under Holloway was actually very good. Max is better running at people and more suited to a wide role than in the middle. It didn't work well, but it's not a decision that was completely out there. Perhaps if Scannell hadn't been able to beat his man first touch when Max was behind him, then overlapping might have worked better. Tilley and Preston were doing that on the other side.
