The pitch looks terrible. You can tell it hasn’t had any maintenance over the summer . It looked like a park pitch the weekend of the kit launch .
It’s going to be in a state by February

iFollow was pretty good last season watching it from Scotland, probably because no-one was using it. Commentary microphone keeps cutting out on this stream and the video is very choppy. Not great.

0-1 poor header by Waterfall, good recovery by Macca making last ditch tackle lands straight at Morecombe feet always going to concede.

Lack of pace at the back has hurt us most then.

Morecombe are just going to sit now aren't they.

And furloughing the grounds man seems like a ridiculous idea now...pitch is awful.

You'd expect any half competent streaming service (with years of experience) would have the appropriate infrastructure in place to increase bandwidth when more viewers are watching. Hardly should be a shock to them that there's more people trying to use the service when nobody is allowed into grounds. Unfortunately neither iFollow nor the EFL seem give the slightest excrement about the user experience they're providing - I guess we're the mugs for continuing to fund them.

You’d hope this weekend would give the EFL a good idea of how many people they’ll have streaming matches during the lockout and increase capacity as necessary. They won’t but hopefully enough people feel conned and don’t buy it next week increasing quality for those who do.

Whilst I see the need for furloughing staff, given that I’d imagine the grounds man isn’t on huge cash, surely he could’ve stayed on, doing his job....the pitch looks awful in comparison to our usual bowling green.

It’s certainly having an impact on the game...

Apparently not fully fit either. He seems stupidly fast, he's beating players who have a large head start on him and keeping balls in that seemed  were long gone. The fastest player I can remember us having in quite some time and Max Wright is already pretty fast.

Sloppy start, gradually taken control.

Should go on to win it, Scannell looks very good, Preston good, Rose good....Williams less so. Green will need to be better with his chances, bit a good finish after 2 poor ones.

Pollock and Scannell the stand outs of that half. Waterfalls usual solid heading has been a tad suspect so far.

Poor start, but we took control by the end of the half. Williams not really in it at the moment and same for Tilley. Rose has looked solid as has Hewitt. Macca his usual brilliant self.

Looking forward to the 2nd half.

Seemed a slow start for us, the Wright experiment wasn't going well in defence and switching seems to have got us back in rhythm. Been a good run out for some of our new faces, if Scannell gets and stays fit then he can run games for us. Can see why Preston is so highly rated at Forrest, he can do it all. Rose looking a solid player so far, Williams got screwed over by the pitch a couple of times I think, we need to sort this out and soon by getting the groundsman back in.

To be honest, we’re playing better than I thought we would, consider the lack of pre season games and late signings. Good on the ball and our forward players all confident in possession.

Not great at the back first 20, particularly waterfall but they’ve steadied now. Pollock looks very assured and looks comfortable with the ball at his feet too.

Agree, some early signs that 3 of the “senior” signings, Rose, Williams & Scannell are all good quality plus Preston gets well down the line and will improve as the season progresses. Getting the ball in the box far more and encouragingly getting men in there as well. Despite his goal Green not really a target man but he’s putting in the effort.

Given lack of friendly matches not disappointed by what I’ve seen and for once with Scannell, Wright and Tilley we have both some trickery and loads of pace.

Williams and Green seemed to be struggling, probably bringing them off to avoid injuries. Scannell looks tired but not hurt like they looked.

Fitness levels clearly an issue with the way things have gone, lots of players who have not played for ages and a season that took forever to get started. This game still feels like a pre season game with how tired players look.

Given that our best bet looked like penalties you'd have thought we'd have ended up with 5 outfield players who were willing to take one under minimal pressure on the pitch. Unless McKeown had had a lifelong ambition to score the winning penalty and thought this was the moment.

I think we looked decent considering our lack of pre-season. First half we were good with the ball. Defending was a bit iffy but got better as the game went on. Obviously we were knackered after 60 minutes, but they have had their squad together longer and played a couple of actual friendlies. I think we'll be fine, but a couple of players short of a push at the moment. A couple more the quality of Scannell though and we'll be laughing!

Beaten due to a lack of experienced subs and fitness. played some good stuff in the middle 40 mins of the game. thought Khouri looked quite capable when he came on, and Williams scary with his pace and skill if he can come on when his team mates are still capable of running to keep up with him.  Pollock and Scannell pick of the team and Preston will only get better. More youths to be tried out on Tuesday I assume, but got to ask the question what the hell was he doing starting with a midfielder/winger at right back and player with much experience in that position in midfield. I expect some red Xs for not licking IHs bottom.

We looked like what we are, a team of strangers that haven't played together and are not match fit. In the first half, after a slow start we played some good football.  We had 67% of possession in the first half. We just never got going in the second half.

Some good signs there, especially Scanell, William's and Preston. Pollock and Waterfall looked solid, (apart from the backpass).

It “might“ only be £5k but it was a competitive game and I would like to think everyone connected to town would want to win. Can understand the early try out with Wright and Hewitt but with Macca taking a penalty is unforgivable, if he was that good a taker then why hasn’t he taken one before ?

Hewitt has played centre midfield before, and in his only outing there under Holloway was actually very good. Max is better running at people and more suited to a wide role than in the middle. It didn't work well, but it's not a decision that was completely out there. Perhaps if Scannell hadn't been able to beat his man first touch when Max was behind him, then overlapping might have worked better. Tilley and Preston were doing that on the other side.

Not a lot else to really talk about...perhaps we used it as a pre season game, which is fine but there was 5k available for simply getting a win which could’ve been easily achieved.

I see where you're coming from but if both teams were that good technically and have such mental strength, then they'd carry on until midnight

It's always realistically going to be an error, a lack of composure or a fluke that decides the outcome...

I’d be disappointed if a professional darts player turned round after a defeat and said ‘ Well it’s a lottery isn’t it ‘
Posted by: Tommy, September 5, 2020, 5:39pm; Reply: 187
I thought in patches we were good. Certainly first half after we conceded the goal. Bossed possession for long spells and knocked it around comfortably. Second half we tired and Morecambe didn't.

Think as our fitness improves and we get a few players back available, we could be a decent side.

Preston looks excellent.
Scannell has a bit of class about him still.
Rose looks real quality.
Edwards looked really promising in his cameo. Able to beat players.
Khouri handled himself well too which is great for the young lad.

Green was ok. Missed a sitter before a great finish for his goal. But he tires early in the second half still.

Overall fairly optimistic that we'll have a good side when it all comes together.
Posted by: toontown, September 5, 2020, 5:40pm; Reply: 188
Wright is not a full back. Wing back maybe. Hes wasted at full back. No surprise we improved when that experiment was binned after a few minutes.

Scannell looks class for this level when fit. Pollock and waterfall had good games as did Rose (apart from the mistake from waterfall for their goal) Preston also looks decent. Macca made some good saves as always.

Passing was very good first half and once we got settled controlled the game until the hour mark. Generally entertaining too despite the lack of goalmouth chances.

Fitness levels were noticeably poor obviously.

Greens one good moment was when play was actually in front of him and he could turn, again no surprise, he can do a rudimentary job at the centre of a 3 with his back to goal but is always going to look out of his depth there. Remember he was originally signed to play wide in a 3 (which he never does now) with him and ogbu eityer side of hanson (remebering his interview from the telegraph) or as a 2 with Hanson.

So let's say that these darts players just had the bull to aim at...

Both can maybe hit it 99 times out of a 100 but at some stage, one of them will miss

On any other day the one that misses might have hit the target but the probability is that either due to a lack of concentration or their usual reliable skill being just that bit off, one will  eventually beat the other.

Same as with penalties... normally you'd put money on the best players scoring ( Messi, Ronaldo etc.) but they are human and prone to error.

Everyone says Matt Le Tissier was a "perfect penalty taker" but did he have a 100% record?  ;)

Exactly, thats how a penalty shoot out works. A player (or several) take a penalty where their technique for that penalty causes them to miss or give the GK an opportunity to save it.

I'd disagree that "fluke" has nothing to do with it though. Its totally down to the technique/execution of the player taking the penalty kick, which can be affected by his mentality in handling the pressure situation.

If it was fluke or a lottery, why dont we just toss a coin to decide who wins.

He used to only dive to the left a bit back.

Maybe changing it a bit might help.

2 to the left one to the right then stand still.for the ones who chip it down the middle then back to the left.

Whatever system you use it could still be wrong.

Don't think its fair to criticise people like Gibson, Hewitt, Scannell etc for not putting themselves forward to take a pen. How do any of us know they didn't?

Every player on the pitch might have put themselves forward to take one for all we know. Fair play to Macca for wanting to take one but I'd question the decision to let him take on when its clear that his kicking has never been his strong point.

Maybe thinking if he aimed down the middle he’d skew it in to the top corner! 😁

Apparently Ollie was complaining in the post match interview that his keeper had taken a pen. Surely he’s in charge of that? If he gave the decision to the players then don’t complain after.

The club is skint...prize money would have been nice so it wasnt a "friendly". I am glad its out the way though, the minimum number of games the better for this season as far as i am concerned, we only have a few injuries really and the bench today had alot of youngsters on it. Protect the squad for League games to maximise our chances of getting safety as fast as possible and then upwards from there.

Interesting when he was speaking about the Limbrick situation and how AL didnt want to take the paycut if the players weren't, that he said "John wasn't having it"

Has that really shocked you?
Posted by: Croxton, September 5, 2020, 9:59pm; Reply: 206
Are we sleepwalking into a contractual minefield with some staff losing 25% of wages but players back on 100%? Leaving AL's case aside as there are other complications, surely we would be better doing what the majority of clubs are doing (whatever that is) rather than digging our heels in?
If , for example, the back office, ground maintenance, commercial functions are impacted to the same degree as the pitch, how are we better off? If we get into defending cases in tribunals it can soon be expensive.
There is bound to be a test case somewhere in the EFL brought by a club employee.
Could there be a return to say 90% if Season tickets pass 2000?
I know this will get red crossed for 'hammering the club' but I'm just looking to avoid unnecessary grief for all concerned.
