Any Town match at Wembley in 1998 is a good start. 😁😁

If anyone is stressed, anxious and can’t get to sleep tonight I recommend viewing Huddersfield vs Town (6 Mar 2001) with your Horlicks nightcap.

It was so bad I was almost cheering the dog botherers on to score. 0-0 and I got food poisoning from a late night Dopiaza.

There was a Huddersfield game at the other end of the spectrum though. 18th September 1990, 4-0. Total Buckley football for 90 minutes including THAT goal by John Cockerill.

Here we are.....

Those were the days in The Ponny! (Not as good as certain times in the late 70's early 80's though)

My first ever town game as a 9 year old, I think the club gave out kids go free tickets at my school and I went with my old man. I'm not going to say it's all been downhill since then but...

This certainly wasn’t a classic but it’s a good example to younger viewers of what a crowd surge looked like. Plus it’s always nice to see Town fans on the pitch, for positive reasons, of course

Unbelievable fight. That was an phenomenal middleweight era. Hearns, Hagler, Duran and Leonard.

Think I saw myself in the crowd there, wearing a green parka. Which narrows it down to 90% of the kids at the match

I think you were on the pitch Jackie.
I saw Peter Taylor score the only goal in an FA Cup win at Elland Road for Crystal Palace and Malcolm Alison has his Panama hat on - not sure if it was same season or season after

I seem to remeber a league cup first round game between us and the udders. We were top of div 3 and they were top of div 4.
It was two legged, I think and we had won the home game 1-0. They were expecting to turn us over at their place which i went to with a friend. We were next to a few of their fans who became more and more upset as the goals went in at their end.
I think it ended 4-1 or something ;like that.

I remembered that there was bad defending that game, but watching the goals is comical. I've seen better defending in Sunday league!

I would have bet anything that Boulding played in that game and tore them apart, doesn't look like he was even on the pitch (or at the club?)

Yeah it was during his 6 months at Villa (although he was on loan at Sheff Utd at the time of this game).

This popped up on my youtube thread....I was in the Pontoon with a good friend of mine who is a Villa fan - he's got a very broad brummie accent.  When Town equalised I think he got punched about 20 times.....  aaaah, just look at the terraces rammed full!

A good shout for goal of the season.

Such a pity that a great player like Paul Groves should go on to sadly fail as a manager.

Re the Town v Man City game.  I like it that we were unbeaten in the Championship ( as it is now) for 3 months and unbeaten at home.

City looked slicker but only got a point.  Town improved after the break and took the game to them.  City looked dangerous on the break.z

We had top strikers such as Paul Wilkinson and Kevin Drinkell.  Both went on to distinguish themselves at bigger clubs.

The pitch was terrible.  For years after that we had a very good pitch.  Strange to see metal fences, no passback rule and no clock timings during the game.  Not sure where they put 3,000 City fans?

I wonder where City are now?

In the Osmond? You could fit 3,000 in there when it was mainly terracing and also had the open corner around to the Findus.

Groves did well to keep us in the second tier in his first half-season in charge; given what had gone on with ITV it was always going to be difficult from there. Admittedly it didn’t end well, culminating in that freezing cold 6-0 defeat at Oldham in which we allowed Scott Vernon to score his first and only career hat trick, with a young Danny Boshell pulling the strings.

It’s hard, looking back, to imagine things going downhill from there.

Just watching that again for the first time since the match itself i think....reaffirmed my memories from the time, we were the better side for large parts but a world class centre half and strikeforce for them made the difference. That first goal, Atkinson made up a good 10yds on Handyside before robbing him to square and Handyside again slipping to allow Yorke a bit more time and room to finish the game off.

Teale's shirt after the fracas looked like he had been dragged through a combine harvester.

Similar to when we played Tottenham around the same era, Thorsvedt in goal and Durie/Lineker up front for them were the difference as we more than matched them in general play.
