McGreal added: "There's a recognition of when the bigger teams turn up, we tend to turn up (as) individuals and when the lesser teams turn up, individuals don't tend to turn up and that's proved it again, from Swindon to Cambridge to Plymouth to (Grimsby).

So McGreal thinks we are a lesser team.......

Well Colchester really are massive.  Their high opinion of themselves is fully justified.  I kneel at their feet.

What I think he is trying to say is they were complacent and took things for granted when they were 2-1 up. It certainly felt like they just sat back when they came out for the second half and only showed any urgency in the last few minutes.

Well, we are aren't we. Can't really argue the fact that they're 5th and before last night we were 18th.
If we were 5th, we would be looking at a team in 18th thinking they were a lesser team and we should beat them. Some of us are probably even thinking that with the visit of Morecambe to us this weekend.

What is laughable though is their managers comments that they scored two good goals and let some poor ones in.

Also his moans about a foul by Hanson in the lead up to our 2nd goal. The ref gave them absolutely anything and everything, he cannot complain about officials at all.

I am sure the Plymouth manager said much the same thing after they played Colchester.

Imagine how frustrated you would be if during this season your side had been leading home and away against GTFC, and ended up with the grand total of 1 point.

I'd blame the manager

Former teammate of Dave Challinor's isn't he??

I love it when little old Grimsby play these massive clubs like Chelsea, Crystal Palace and Colchester especially when we get a result like last night.

He said 'team' not 'club' and seeing as they were 13 places above us and at home, I'm not sure what the fuss is about!

Interesting comment by a reader on last nights match in the Colchester Local paper.
A warning of the perils of lower league clubs moving to isolated out-of-town stadiums.

"Shame about the result but can't say nobody saw it coming. First game attended in a little while and have to say very disappointed with the attendance but no shuttle buses and very few local buses means it is very hard for fans to get to games in the evening. Noticed the stadium looks very tatty, faded seats and empty/faded and damaged advertising boards makes the stadium a bit of a depressing place for saying it's a new ground."

We had nearly 10% of the crowd.  Our fans travelling much further of course.

I am sure their manager is very annoyed losing at home to a team much lower in the league.  Especially being so outstanding 3 days before in thrashing the 3rd team.

The EFL highlights programme last Sat said that their first half, and 3 goals, was the best performance by any Div 2 team this season.

Our win shows the high level of achievement.  Another reason might be comments from their fans that some of their players don’t like getting stuck-in on cold, windy nights.  (Our Prem-based players had no issue here).

Typical manager rhetoric to deflect from the reality...of which was his team seemingly believe the job was done at 2-1 and we’d just lay down and take it. On the contrary, we raised our game and looked very much like the team in fifth...

Half an hour walk to/from the train station, if I can get there from London after finishing work at 5pm then they can get there from Colchester surely?

goes to show the out of Town grounds aren’t all that , To be fair though I can’t evrr remember Colchester getting crowds any better st their old ground .
if the Freeman street ground goes ahead then it’ll be within walking distance for 1000s and have loads of pubs cafes and shops ect next to it .

I didn't read it as deflection, quite the opposite, I read it as he was saying the same as you.

Possibly but the comment about club size will have that effect though...going on about the size of a club is the same member swinging nonsense about crowd sizes.

We love our club, they love their club. We were better than them. End of story.

Disagree completely, we are an under performing club in league 2...no body has the right to call our club "lesser"...it's like calling the tramp in the sleeping bag outside a shop door a "lesser" human being than oneself..he's no lesser, just under performing and down in his luck...just like, as a club, we have been for too many years.

He should've switched a few letters and said lower (which is clearly what he meant) and it would've saved all this bother over absolutely nothing.

If drinking paint stripper in a shop doorway, surrounded by a pool of your own píss and ocassionally flashing your nob to unsuspecting passers-by, is “underperforming”, then I reckon I might be slightly overperforming. Only slightly mind, but you’ve got to celebrate life’s small victories.
