Former town keeper Tom Daley has died he played under Bill Shankly for town and I had the pleasure of playing in the same side as Tom in the Sunday league.

Yes Pete I remember Tom from his appearances in Bill Shankly's brilliant team.. Many years later, I remember one Sunday morning driving between Waltham and Bradley when I noticed a match going on in the field alongside the road.. I parked up and watched the game from over the roadside hedge. The match was between Bradley Utd and, I think, Lynton. Tom was playing in goal and picked up the ball, gave it one hell of a welly, and with one huge bounce on that awful surface went over the keeper at the other end into the net. To me, it was even more amusing as the opposing keeper was probably not only one of the best, but certainly the most excitable goalies in the league at that time .Were you playing that day? I did business with Tom when he went into the motor trade and he was an always an absolute gentleman th deal with.

Yes it was Lynton and I played in that game, We won 4-1 and apart from scoring Tom passed to me twice to score he had hell of a kick and with the wind behind him he could reach the other penalty area. We were not normally a long ball team but that day we were 1-0 down at HT and Tom's big kicks paid off.

That was a semi final and we played Clee Park at Blundell Park in the final which we drew 0-0, Losing 1-0 in the replay at the Findus Ground and I managed to score in last minute, Lost in extra time though.

Another thing I remember when we got to the final Tom said whe could use his garage to train before the final. When we got there it was full of cars so the ones who could drive put the cars out into the car park. Tom got his flip chart out and before we could do any training we were surround by police, Somebody had rang 999 and said thieves were nicking all the cars
