Ok, so I know he’s in the past, and that we should be looking forward, but I’m curious as to what kind of reception you’ll be giving to Mr Hurst on Saturday? Personally I’ll not be treating him as if he was the messiah, but neither will I treat him as something I’ve stepped in! Ok, cupping his ears wasn’t the best thing to do, but that wasn’t aimed at every fan, that was for the doubters, which I was one off, but I only vented my frustrations to work mates, I never slagged him off on here or any social media. So he’d get a grateful thanks, and a good luck for the future (only after 14-45) attitude from me.

As a silly old sod from the 80’s era I was looking forward to giving him loads of grief. For the underhanded way he left us and the fact he’s now a Scunt.
But unless we’re 3 up with 10 minutes to go. I think I’ll be keeping my gob shut !!

Best wait until the final whistle and if we have won I hope everybody will join in a mass ear cupping.
If however we've lost and have given him a hard time we might get a repeat from him!

I won’t be at the game unfortunately due to work but if I was there I’d give him a warm reception, he did things I didn’t like and sometimes the football on show was boring but he got us promoted back to the football league when all said and done.

The success he had was pub football plenty of teams were part time so personally I don’t regard anything he did a success, in fact perhaps we would have been promoted quicker if we had got rid of him with his gobby mate. Having said that working for this regime must be extremely frustrating

Beat them 3-0, all the scunt supporters sitting quietly in the Osmond, the rest of the ground making lots of noise then Mr Hurst will see what he gave up, to that will be the best message to him.

As the only manager to have been poached from us in the last quarter of a century, he must've been doing something right, and so I'll give him a little clap (arf). Actually, I probably won't notice him come out the tunnel as I'll be watching Mighty Mariner or something.

Partly agree with you about those pesky pub teams.... they still had to be beaten though I think he struggled at times against some of the "bigger" teams where his tactics never really convinced me that he wanted to win badly enough... far too conservative for my liking As for Shouty, who can say if he'd stayed whether or not we'd have been promoted quicker if he'd not gone than with just Hurst in charge.... might have happened but then again we might still be down there, trying without any success to get back in to the league with "no facking manny" ( or a competitive budget as our leader calls it!! )

There’s no guarantee of anything (apart from you never being wrong), but being 1-0 up and the opposition being down to 10 men after 20 minutes on a very big energy sapping pitch would suggest that the odds would have been massively in our favour. So excuse me, but if we want to go about a massive injustice then allow us to do so, even though you don’t like it. Ross Joyce will never be forgiven.

For as long as people still suggest we only got promoted because of a penalty against Braintree? Seen as he got dogs abuse while actually managing us in the playoff semi finals, I’ve no doubt he’ll get a load of abuse on Saturday from the same nobheads who wanted him sacked ahead of the playoff final and cried when he cupped his ear. Give me that team we had in our first season back in league two while he was here any day of the week. We’ve been crap ever since.

Neutral reception for me, if we could turn back time and Fenty didn't break his promises on us becoming a more professional outfit and he'd have stayed content with our ambitions then I'd snap your hands off.
We certainly wouldn't have diced with relegation and been through all the rigmorale we've been through since. We'd be a well organised outfit keeping us shape building and evolving year on year.
I didn't like the ear cupping and letting Podge leave was a massive balls up, but just think, what was it 4 and a half thousand Town fan's at Notts County just before he left? We took thousands all over selling out often, compare that with the apathy now.

Agree pretty much I don’t think we’re in a place to give him any form of reception TBH, I’m planning to just look in the other direction when we go 3 - 0 down. The fact this hasn’t been a sell out for weeks says everything TBH

A ref who played to the rules of the game.
I might have not worded that well, what I meant was the rule of the game is, if a keeper handles the ball out of the box, he should have been given a red card. The Rovers keeper definitely stopped a goalscoring chance with his arm, which I be!ieve would have put us 2 up; but didn't the ref say he didn't want to spoil the game so early on? Which could have robbed us of promotion from the Conference a year earlier.

Let's be honest... we (Fenty) rolled the dice, and we lost.
Like others have said, there were plenty of things he did that I didn't agree with, plenty of frustrations and so on. But I felt we were in steady hands with Hurst in charge.
Since he left we've got worse. There's no doubt. You can't argue with that.
I'm not saying he's some kind of football manager god, but if we're all really honest with ourselves, I doubt we'd have had the 3 years we've just endured — and we wouldn't be in the predicament we now find ourselves in — if he'd stayed.
It's always tantalising to think there's better out there but, had Hurst stuck around, I think we'd have been gradually building, and getting stronger, season after season.
The last 3 years puts his reign in some sort of context. He's the only manager since Buckley to have achieved a promotion. Like I say, he wasn't without fault, but I can accept those faults when so much other stuff is going well.

Top bloke?...really...?...he's full of himself, total kn@b of a man...can't argue with the fact he managed to get us out of non league but when you're 2-0 up against Chester and they were to be put to the sword and he took the forwards off to put defensive midfielders on and we drew 2-2...that's when I lost I my liking for his style if football ..boring and pragmatic..then to call the fans spoiled and to cup his ears...top bloke?..my backside

The guy who's record in the most recent three seasons reads: 23rd and relegated from NL, 19th in NL North avoiding relegation by one place and currently sits 10th in NL North? That guy?

I seem to remember Russell Slade getting similar adulation a few years after he left
|
| Christ you all wanted him sacked a few months ago. 6th place finish and he's now the messiah and can do no wrong Update: I think I've got this right - He was the messiah. He then wasn't. He then was again. Then it turned out he actually wasnt. He turned into one big huge messiah again. Now he's not actually the messiah we thought he was . Now I'm hoping he rises again quickly |

BUT
He did get us promoted in the end.
I was never a fan but have we had a better manager since he left ?

Got us put the mire of none league which may have taken a while but plenty of teams have struggled to do that too. Always felt safe with Hursty in charge which is more than can be said of late and had us sitting in a comfortable position before his departure. I spoke to him after training one day and was very forthcoming with answering questions. Cant knock him myself so I wont be booing him

He did okay for us. Would have been struggling working with the board that after a few knocks on the door finally got us relegated from the football league rather pathetically. He made at best a sideways step just to get out which shows he couldn't stand anymore.
I never took to him if I'm honest, too many digs at our magnficent support at the time. We travelled then in huge numbers, there was anger at the disgraceful level we played at then and he never quite understood the humiliation and disgrace we felt. He is a good manager and I'm not surprised he turned them around. I will largely ignore him today, it's not like I'm likely to come across him, it's all about beating the filth, which I doubt we will manage as we are a flipping shambles again.

Great reception Top bloke and manager All gone pear shaped since
This. Eventually got the job done. Amazing how people still drone on about "ear cupping" and not getting the fans.

The National League is the hardest to get out of with only one automatic promotion spot. Every season we were down there you had teams throwing money at it such as Crawley, Fleetwood, Luton, Mansfield and then the play offs is always a lottery. Of our 6 seasons down there, he came in during the March of the first season so can't be attributed with that. Him and Rob Scott laid the foundations of a decent squad in our second season and then once Rob Scott got dismissed, he came into his own.

He got a respectful applause from The Main Stand, which he acknowledged.

The guy who's record in the most recent three seasons reads: 23rd and relegated from NL, 19th in NL North avoiding relegation by one place and currently sits 10th in NL North? That guy?
Yes that guy
