Whitehouse was behind the ball. It's more the 4 players being unmarked about 6 yards out that baffles me. Shame you can't see whether the linesman got it right or not, but that's a risky move to play the offside trap when there's so many in the box.

I agree it looked an ok goal from the laws of the game point of view the only note of caution I expect Morecambe to be one of the two sides to be relegated and judging by there defending for both goals it`s a good call.Still a clean sheet 3 points and a good start to the new Season we have to take that.

If you watch it closely you’ll see that Öhman came into the box late and he Wasn’t caught out by the offside trap. I was behind the linesman, at the time I thought it was offside but it was a brave decision by him not to give it as usually in those situations they will give benefit of the doubt to the defending team

I'm still baffled by the first goal not being offside? Squared to Whitehouse five yards out and no Morecambe outfield players anywhere near

Doesn't the ball have to be played forward for a player to be off-side?

Correct. As the poster pointed out "the ball was squared" It doesn't matter how many players were in an offside position if the ball wasn't played forward it's not offside.

Nice composure by Wright for his goal (and good play by Whitehouse telling him to shoot rather than pass to an offside him!)

I don't know much about the Morecambe side and it's still early doors, I'd like to see us passing more, I felt that when we got the ball to feet we were more of an attcking side that had Morecambe on the back foot, rather than lumping it up to Hanson,

That was definitely a penalty with that foul on Rose, I'd like to see his pace utilized more, I'd like him to be bit more braver going forward.

Great turn out by Town fans, you could hear them all the way through the game, well done to those who made the journey.

Over 1k to Morecambe suggests some really large away followings on the cards for us this Season if we can stay up the top end.

You can’t be offside from a square ball, it has to go forward. That’s basic.

Whether Öhman was offside initially is a different matter, but it’s impossible to tell from the camera angle.

What struck me as odd was that it was roughly our tenth free kick from that kind of position and it was the first time they’d tried the offside trap. Presumably it was a plan improvised at half time rather than something they’d worked on the training ground, which may account for its calamitous deployment.

I’ve never liked the offside trap as a tactic as it relies not only on you doing your job right, but also the lino (not accounting for VAR). If anyone of 5 or 6 people gets it ever so slightly wrong, you’re fúcked, As was the case yesterday.

Never mind. Our gain.

Cracking turnout yesterday. Six weeks until Oldham and Salford. Hopefully the Whaley Bridge situation will be fixed by then
