Imagine being born in Billericay.....where are your football songs going to come from? 'We love you Bill-er-i-cay we do' or 'walking down the Billericay road - to see the new chairman's aces.' Doesn't exactly roll from the tongue what? Any ideas anyone? Thank goodness I'm a Grimbite.

'I walked in the dressing room. The window was open and I thought that a sea fret had got in. Then I saw smoke billowing from a pipe in the corner of the room...it was my centre-forward. He looked seven stone wet through. He went on to score thirty-odd goals that season.' Lawrie McMenemy on encountering the legend that was Matt Tees.

Thankfully they've found inspiration from an unusual source...

Billericay Dickie by the late great Ian Durie
May need a few tweaks
Good evening I'm from essex In case you couldn't tell My given name is Dickie, I come from Billericay And I'm doing very well
Had a love affair with Nina In the back of my Cortina A seasoned up hyena could not have been more obscener She took me to the cleaners And other misdemeanours But I got right up between her Rum and her Ribena
Well, you ask Joyce and Vicki If candy-floss is sticky I'm not a blinking thicky I'm Billericay Dickie And I'm doing very well
I bought a lot of brandy When I was courting Sandy Took eight to make her randy And all I had was shandy Another thing with Sandy What often came in handy Was passing her a 'Mandy' She didn't half go bandy
So you ask Joyce and Vicki If I ever took the mickey I'm not a flipping thicky I'm billericay dickie

Hopefully after playing us, their fans will be singing ‘what a waste’ 😉

| The wife was going away for a girly weekend. I jokingly remarked 'I don't know whether to spend it watching porn or watching football' 'you may as well spend it watching porn' she replied That's understanding darling what makes you say that? I asked She said 'Well you already know how to play football' |

Given that their nickname is Ricay I'll imagine they use the two syllable version in chants!
When I was just a little boy I asked my mother 'what should I be? Should I be Chemlsford? Should I be Ricay? Here's what she said to me Wash your mouth out son And go get your father's gun And shoot all the Chemlsford scum Ricay are number one
