My main memory of that game was a young Warren Barton playing for Maidstone and he had the then-fashionable rave curtains for a hairstyle. Town fans shouting ACIIIIEEED! everytime he touched the ball. Amused me if no one else.

Return fixture, we were single-handedly destroyed by Mark Gall.

Another couple of things I remember about the game was Alan Buckley bringing Mark Lever on as a sub and playing him up front and a house behind one of the goals being on fire.

Bradford park avenue beat us 5-1 at home once in the 1960's and went out of existence not long after. We must have played them a good few times before that tho as they must have been formed around the same time as us in the 19th century so we must have beaten then at some time...hopefully!!
P.s. We were 1-0 up in that bloody game....i as there!

My first Grimsby game was at home to BPA on Boxing Day 1969 (aged 10) - we drew 2-2 - I think they dropped out of of the league year (not re-elected).

Replaced by Cambridge United, I think.

That must just be in league games then but we've never beaten Maidstone or Burton Albion either in the league.

Looking at that opposition ladder though, it only includes teams that we have played at least 4 times. Burton and Maidstone we have only played twice, so that's why they aren't on there.

Thought that was Bradford City, seem to recall Bobby Ham scoring 4 & ex Lincoln player Norman Corner the other. Think I remember town playing BPA on a Saturday evening, also Exeter?, think it was around 69/70 & must have been an effort to increase crowds which were particularly low at that time.

One interesting thing I noticed from that opposition ladder was that there are two teams we've played far more often than any others (one we've played 121 times, one 116 times, no-one else more than 97). Without looking it up, can you name them?

I know we've played Barnsley loads of times and Oakwell is one of my most visited grounds so I would think that would be one.
