Town have apparently played 127 different teams, and of those there are two we haven’t beaten. Without cheating, which two are they?

Batch, Crombie, Moore K, Wiggington, Cumming, Waters, Bonnyman, Ford, Emson, Drinkell, Whymark. Love you all, You are the reason I'm on here. You've had help from Todd, Handyside, Futcher P, Groves, Mendonca, Macca etc etc etc. Up The Mariners!!!!!!!!!

Phoenix Bessemer are one. They stuffed us in our first (I think) FA Cup game and never played them again.

Looks like there's more than 2 then, unless the question meant to say in league games.

Beat them 2-1 the year they went up from the conference, think Dave Moore was in charge.

Yeah, only played them twice I think. Lost 3-2 at home and drew 2 all away, so that's now 5 teams I know we definitely haven't beaten.

Phoenix Bessemer, Chasetown, Burton, Fleetwood and Maidstone.

I can add with certainty that we haven't beaten Velaz Sarsfeld, Coritiba, KooTeePee and MyPä either.

Through the door there came familiar laughter,
I saw your face and heard you call my name.
Oh my friend we're older but no wiser,
For in our hearts the dreams are still the same.

I was at The National Hockey Stadium when Danny Boshell's 25-yarder gave us a 2-1 win.

Was it that far out?  I was there too in that side 'stand' and remember it was a glorious volley, almost Van Basten esque but didn't recall it as quite that far out.

Ryan Bennett's debut too I think, coming off the bench for Macca?

I'd like to think it was that far out but maybe it wasn't then.

I was living in Maidstone at that time, so don't remind me.

Unfortunately we'll never beat that Maidstone United because they went out of business after they moved out of the town and their old ground burned down. The club in the National League is a phoenix club.

The season we played Maidstone away they were playing in Dartford. I remmeber the day quite clearly as it was absolutely pissing down with rain all the way and we were worried the game would be called off but when we came out the other side of The Dartford Tunnel it was bright sunshine and they'd not seen a drop of rain all day.

My main memory of that game was a young Warren Barton playing for Maidstone and he had the then-fashionable rave curtains for a hairstyle. Town fans shouting ACIIIIEEED! everytime he touched the ball. Amused me if no one else.

Return fixture, we were single-handedly destroyed by Mark Gall.

Another couple of things I remember about the game was Alan Buckley bringing Mark Lever on as a sub and playing him up front and a house behind one of the goals being on fire.

Bradford park avenue beat us 5-1 at home once in the 1960's and went out of existence not long after. We must have played them a good few times before that tho as they must have been formed around the same time as us in the 19th century so we must have beaten then at some time...hopefully!!
P.s. We were 1-0 up in that bloody game....i as there!

My first Grimsby game was at home to BPA on Boxing Day 1969 (aged 10) - we drew 2-2 - I think they dropped out of of the league year (not re-elected).

That must just be in league games then but we've never beaten Maidstone or Burton Albion either in the league.

Looking at that opposition ladder though, it only includes teams that we have played at least 4 times. Burton and Maidstone we have only played twice, so that's why they aren't on there.

Thought that was Bradford City, seem to recall Bobby Ham scoring 4 & ex Lincoln player Norman Corner the other. Think I remember town playing BPA on a Saturday evening, also Exeter?, think it was around 69/70 & must have been an effort to increase crowds which were particularly low at that time.

One interesting thing I noticed from that opposition ladder was that there are two teams we've played far more often than any others (one we've played 121 times, one 116 times, no-one else more than 97). Without looking it up, can you name them?

I know we've played Barnsley loads of times and Oakwell is one of my most visited grounds so I would think that would be one.

Yep Barnsley is the 116. They are the team we have lost to most often (40 times!)
