Yes, that was a massive win yesterday, but let's not forget that Chesterfield can still get above us, although they will need 2 wins and a draw now from their 3 games in hand.

The first of those 3 games is on Tuesday when they travel to Morecambe where a home win will be another step towards survival for us. A home win there coupled by a win for us over Barnet on Saturday and we can all start to relax a little bit.

Chesterfield then travel to Exeter on Tuesday week which will be a very hard game for them and then have Newport at home in their other game in hand.

I didn’t see anything from them yesterday that would lead to them finishing above us. They’ll be bollocksed playing Sat/Tues for the rest of the season and are dreadful on the road - with 4/7 games they have left away. If they finish above us I’ll run through the Pontoon with a hot.... I’ll be very surprised.

The only team we have to fear is Barnet,

We beat them and we are safe.

It looks to me like the only thing that could have turned Chesterfield around would have been a change of manager around December. Another similarity to us, only we *may* have made the change just in the nick of time.

Regardless of our League status next season Jolley should still be here, I think Lester will be gone within hours if they go down. I honestly don't see anything in his management attempts that says otherwise, and I'd be pretty angry as a Spireite fan to have ploughed on with him through such a depressing period of time, Slade-style.

As I see it, if we beat Barnet then scrape another point somewhere we are safe looking at remaining fixtures for the bottom 5. would need at least 2 teams to go on amazing runs for us to finish in the bottom 2.

I was surprised with their choice of manager and said at the time it was a big risk in the Neil Woods mould to go with him, as he is totally lacking experience. Well and truly backfired for them.

If we can secure another three points v Barnet we will want to see victories for Lincoln & Cheltenham (not something associated with town fans) that would place us above Veggie Rovers and the Vale with Veggies next game v Chesterfield and one of them must suffer.

Veggie guys like us need to win their home games to stay up let’s hope they win none of them.

No twist of fate Shifts - its the Illuminati pulling the strings behind the scenes.

In the next few weeks you're gonna see a James Berrett Hat-trick, Our Non-Chairman is gonna step down after announcing the Fentydome on PP has been approved, and a joint consortium of Mike Lyons and Lottery winner Peter Bore are gonna take over the club!

Now where did I put my tin foil hat.......

Well, 1 point from their last 2 games hasn't been bad for us and they now head to Exeter tonight, who themselves need the points in their quest for promotion.

I hate having to rely on other teams but for 1 day only I am now an Exeter fan. Come on you Grecians.

Chesterfield looked quite good in the televised game against Notts County. They looked a shadow of the same side against us. I wouldn't write them off though.

Hope Wycombe win too. Not because they are at Lincoln, but it would be good for us if Notts County are out of the automatic spots when we meet them. If Wycombe win tonight and Saturday, Notts can't catch them. Tall order though, as they are away at Lincoln and home to Accy.

Could do with Exeter scoring more in the second half as it could still come down to GD at the end.

I've been looking at the report on the Sky Sports app. Admittedly, it's a bit crap but Chesterfield seem to have been in it and have had chances. Their front line of O Grady and Dennis is decent on paper at least. I'd be delighted with any form of defeat for them. Not that I'd wish the National league on any proper club like that. But it's them or us.

If Chesterfield lose tonight, think they are out.
Do we want them to win, lose or draw at veggie rovers on Saturday?

Could do with Morecambe losing on Saturday, so they are still in the mire when they play Barnet.

Well done Accy, and Exeter.

Exeter show that a club with mediocre support, if owned by fans can merely challenge for automatic promotion whilst one owned by one rich man, with 1-2000 more fans is challenging for relegation.

Through the door there came familiar laughter,
I saw your face and heard you call my name.
Oh my friend we're older but no wiser,
For in our hearts the dreams are still the same.

such a shame most of their fans wont be able to watch them next season....as most of them went on the pitch at full time to celebrate i expect they will all be receiving banning orders in the near future

Banned after attending their first ever Accrington game...at least they will replace at the top of the banning orders as a percentage of average crowd league - they will be at about 200%

Good to see that Exeter won tonight without bringing on their 2 remaining subs near the end.  Pleased that they could beat Chesterfield with something to spare.

Probably not. Their hierarchy respect their fans,

At this rate I am not sure Chesterfield will even reach our current total of 42 points. They need two wins and a draw from their last four games, which is quite an ask.

What worries though is that they might already be down when they play Barnet, so will be an easy three points for Barnet.

I think we need to win one of our remaining games. It's us or Barnet to go down with Chesterfield. The failure to beat them on Saturday might well be what sends us down.

Could work the total opposite, no pressure on Chesterfield

Even if Barnet win on Saturday and we lose, we’re still 2 points ahead of them. We’re in the driving seat, it’s in our hands. For some reason I fancy us to beat Notts County in front of a packed BP and I can see us getting at least a point at FGR.

"Falls to Arnold... Arnold! That's it! Thats it! He's sealed it! Grimsby Town are back in the football league!!! Just a minute to go and Nathan Arnold makes it 3-1! Look at the scenes behind the goal! Look at the relief! The agony is finally over!!!"

The combination of the team that we beat to come up and the team that sent us down last time is ominous - we don't want to need anything on the last day...

...but I fear we will...

Even if Chesterfield are down by the time they play Barnet surely they'll want to end the season on somewhat of a high for their fans?

Hopefully we'll be safe by then but a scenario that could occur would be us and FGR going into the last game of the season BOTH needing a point to be safe.

Cue a nice boring 0-0 draw if that should be the case.

Chesterfields games:  Wycombe & Newport H  FGR & Barnet A

Unless they have a sudden turn around from what I saw at BP a couple weeks ago  i think they are down and will struggle to reach 42 points.

Barnet are the worry for me. Yes they are 5 points behind us with 3 games left so Town are in a decent position it seems. But then I saw their remaining games:

Newport & Chesterfield H and Morecambe A

I can see them getting a couple of good results . Win all 3 ? unlikely but 5 or 6 pts if possible meaning Town need more points. I thought they were poor 1st half at BP but Allen made some changes and they looked up for the fight after the break.

A win for Town will probably be enough but I dont see us getting one. Our away form is atrocious at the moment ....almost a bang on home win. Dont fancy us at Swindon and our record in Gloucestershire  is poor. If we need a result on the last day i wouldnt be overly optimistic. Leaves Notts at home. We have shown a bit of backbone in recent home games  but I just feel we lack the goal threat to get 3 points.

Thinking we will have to rely on Barnet (and Chesterfield)  to intercourse up tbh. Then a massive Summer clearout.

I wouldn't say won 3 (inc last visit) drawn 1 lost 2 is particularly poor.

Good job we're playing them in Wiltshire then.

I agree. I think our last away win was at Barnet wasn't it, months ago and if we need results at two difficult away games I just cannot see us getting them.

We have to hope we can conjure up some points away, and also hope Barnet don't do the business.

It will be agonising to have to go to the last day needing a point or three.

Of course I hope I am completely wrong, so wrong that this weekend sees us safe. My only comfort is that I have been wrong many many times before.
