Why did you come to BP, what are you about, for being a Grimbarian, you don't seem too bothered about our current plight, were is your fire and passion?

Tricky one this....I fondly remember seeing him play for Town and I'll cling on to that memory.
If RS does get the sack then I would imagine Wilko would be shown the door as well.

For various reasons, including the signing of Sam Kelly, I have no respect for the man.

Heard on the grapevine that Wilko and Slade do not get on. maybe Wilko is happy for Slade to hang himself then take over the team. I would give him a fair crack if he did.

Why ?? What is the obsession of allowing ex players with zero experience to manage the club because they "get" Grimsby Town. Re. Disley The guy seems to has zero influence on RS's management & his media appearance a while back was just embarassing.

I got the impression that Wilkinson was the boards appointment to appease fans who may not have been doing cartwheels over Slades return.

So you find him uninspiring? does that mean he would be a bad manager?
Ans if he doesnt get on with Slade what makes anyone think slade would take any ntice of advice given by him. Just think its a tad unfair on him as he dont call the shots.

Haven't been able to finish watching any interview with him. I can only imagine his team talks. Slade never asked for him in fairness, he was given him which is always a bad move IMO. Paul's demeanor and body language probably isn't a fair reflection on him.

Don't have a strong opinion of Wilko as a manager, one way or the other. We have no idea either way of how much input he has (or is allowed).
As far as how uninspiring he looks pitchside or in interviews, I agree. But we all said the same about Hurst, and I'm sure most of us would take him back in a heartbeat.

i think that J.F.appointed Wilko so that he could learn "the Trade"under a "Supremo" his mate Slade and then after Slades 4 year stint he would have the experience to take over and be be able to keep us in the Championship where Slade had promised we would be. Sack the lot and that bloke in the yellow jacket and the number 3 bus driver.

Ok Wilco may not be as articulate as Slade but my concern is Slade seems a stubborn man that refuses others advice even when things don't seem right.
I will say one thing the "Slade ball" tag is unjustified the team are trying to play the ball from the back even frustratingly last Saturday as Clarke and Collins could not see anybody coming short wanting the ball. Even Killip was quickly giving the ball short rather than the big hoof all the time something even Macca could learn from.
Thought Pearson improved that part of his game before he left it would also help if midfielders moved and wanted the ball like Nolan did when he was here a midfield general with a good footballing brain we have had them in the past Grovsey, Walters, Diddy etc.
"Pass and move" faster the better as Buckey's book is entitled forwards too at throw-ins dead ball situations make options available.

Wilkie is assistant manager. When Buckley was here he was on record as saying Arthur Mann’s job is running the reserves and doing whatever else AB told him. Wilkie has a good record as a coach both youth and first team. I would guess that the young player signings with Norwich connections are through him. He is smart enough and good with players but he is a coach not a manager and I doubt he would ever want to be a permanent first team manager. The way managers get treated at BP makes it a surprise anyone in their right mind would want to come here anyway. Those who knew Wilkie as a player will know that he always gave everything for the team. I just cannot see the point of this thread at all. Just seems to be another stick to beat RS with.

I enjoyed watching Wilkinson as a player. Beyond that I know nothing about him so will give him the benefit of the doubt.

Sensible post. An assistant manager might have his own views and playing philosophy etc but is only going to coach the team in the way that the Manager wants them to be coached into playing. Whether Wilko's own style would be different to Slade's, who knows? As far as criticism's of his recommendation of players, eg Sam Kelly who seemingly is deemed not good enough now. 1) At the end of the day that's Slade's call. If he wants to sign a player based on a recommendation that's his risk. 2) All Managers have mixed success rates with signing players. Even the best Manager's the country has ever seen signed plenty of bad players. Hurst did. Buckley did. It happens. 3) Wilko looks to be the link that brought Jaiyesimi in, who most of us would probably agree should have had a lot more game-time this season. So to have a balanced discussion about this its' important to mention that rather than just cherry pick the bad the points out.

it would appear to me that the number one voice in the club is Russel Slade followed closely by John Fenty with Wilkinson views ideas etc way down the pecking order, don`t think he would have been Slades choice and there lies the problem because Slades bombastic nature means Wilkinson`s views and opinions will not be noted. A classic Grimsby scenario of Wilco going elsewhere and doing good
