Still can't watch any of this without getting emotional Braintree Home OMG.. Braintree away praying for something for 75 mins then we got something Then praying for a winner and not penalties and it came massive massive relief On the pitch chatting to the players, photos etc great Then whole family to Wembley Wouldn't have missed that and Arnold's goal for anything Can't wait till 6/8/16 Come on Town!!
1st time I've seen Braintree away, never seen Hurst show that much emotion before, hope he can show more passion at Blundell Park and less of the negative winging. UTM

It's only a few weeks since I was listening to the Braintree commentary and hardly able to listen to the Podge penalty kick. In a way, the despair of the first leg and the poor form before that made the end result even more special

Superb video. I felt utterly dejected after that home tie with Braintree and couldn't see a way to progress for us. It was apparent though from the second leg that the pressure got to Braintree. For the first time in the season, they were expected to win and had a big crowd by their standards. They couldn't handle it and went to pieces.
I was quietly confident that we would beat FGR in the final but it was still a massive relief and outpouring of 6 years of frustration when that Arnold goal went in. Don't think i've ever seen so many grown men crying at once.
Had tears rolling down my face by the end of this. Upset me seeing Gregor and Craig Clay too, only a short time ago. They are heroes and that squad will always be remembered as legends.
I admit to being very emotional watching this excellent video, but how I would have loved my Dad and my mate Colin to see us get promoted, sadly both have passed away whilst we have been in the football wilderness.

Haven't welled up so much since watching the film The Champ, great stuff, I'm just glad they didn't put the downfall first then how we got promoted, because I would be crying like a little girl.

The story of Operation Promotion is a thing of beauty, a Grimsby Legend for all generations of now and in the future.
I can look back and say I was there with Dis the captain, and the squad on that emotional roller coaster of a season when to be fair we all doubted we could do it but the squad had the guts and belief to see us home in the most dramatic way ever.
Our fans are unbelievable and their support is so envied by others we have left a rather big void in those non league grounds ans finances.
I didn't go to Braintree but was speaking to someone today who did. Can I just say a massive well done to everyone else who went when many had given up. This was the moment the team needed support and boy did they get it.

Honestly think that if you can watch that without feeling emotional, cry or well up you must be dead inside.
From that penalty things changed. I've never driven back from a game like I did against Braintree and felt so good after watching town...until the following week.

In many ways the victory at Braintree was a greater achievement than the Wembley game. From talking to people who went to the game the turn out was more a show of defiance than a genuine belief that we could do it. We all hoped but as the commentator says the odds were stacked against us historically and in terms of (very) recent encounters between the two sides. There are many game defining moments in football. The penalty decision and Podge's gleeful execution must rank as one of Town's all time defining moments. The result was staggering. Braintree's heads dropped. The tiredness experienced by part timers asked to play two massive games in four days (with work for some in the intervening period), which had been held at bay for the whole time they maintained a 1-0 advantage came flooding out. The mood amongst the Town fans changed in the instant Podge's penalty hit the net. I cannot put into words how but from that moment I knew Town would win. To me it didn't matter that they had a player sent off. Bogle's goal though fantastic, with the best celebrations (up to that point) I can remember in 50 years of watching my team was somehow incidental. At Wembley I didn't speak to a single person in the lead up to the game who didn't think Town would win. From early on it was obvious that the same team that turned up at Braintree had come to Wembley. That's not to say there wasn't tension. The beauty of the video is that you remember how you felt when the first goal went in, followed so quickly by the second. The tension ramped up after their excellent goal and you wondered whether even then the game could be snatched away..again. I will never, ever be able to describe the feeling when Arnold stuck the third away. The realisation that we'd done it made me just stand there yelling "f**king yes!" again and again I fell over the seat in front of me because the person sat there had left early!!! This video brings it back as though it was still going on. I've lost count of the number of times I've seen it....

Watched it 3 or 4 times already. The BT Sport bit about writing us off is actually a microcosm of our fans after Braintree. "We'll never get out this league with Hurst in charge"
After nearly a month to reflect the joy has now really sunk in. I've made an edit of 5 seconds for Arnold's goal and I just love it. Finally after 11 years of watching town fail and fail again I finally saw some success! Sadly for my own sake I wasn't here to witness Mendonc, Donavon, Gilbert, Childs, Groves, Davison, Crichton, Drinkell, Waters, Drinkell, Ford, Moore, Handyside, Livo, Birtles and Oster. I've seen Church, Makofo and Fyfield! I doubt that when I look back hopefully in 60 years time or so I will be able to recall a greater moment of joy than the 95th Minute, Play off final, 15th May, Grimsby v FGR and that ball ricocheting off the defender and the moment before he scored that you knew he was going to and Shaun Pearson leading round a gang of players to start the celebration party! That is the happiest I've ever felt and after 6 agonising years of torture we finally suceeded, we finally got out of the league impossible to get out of.

About 2 mins 30 in, when Podge puts that pen away and the music kicks in I just became a mess, hairs were dancing already but at that moment I went to bits Fecking get a grip man
Agree with Barra about the confidence of Town fans. Every single fan i spoke to said we would win and all were saying by 2 or 3 goals. The one abiding memory i will have is my very drunken brother saying adamantly and repeatedly that we would win 3-1 and that FGR cannot and will not match our passion on and off the pitch. So much so that the gamblers among our group stuck bets on that score and won a fair few bob. The sight of them all kissing my brother at the end with tears in their eyes will live with me for ever.

Agree with the poster who mentioned the sadness that Clay and Robertson are no longer at the club. Would have been great to have given those two the chance to progress with us in League 2, but I suppose football is a cruel sport and there's no room for sentiment. Would obviously have loved to have seen Nolan too but that was out of our hands.

I was stood very slightly to the left of the goal and was right behind the trajectory of the shot. I thought it was a goal, I was celebrating and then out of nowhere he got the slightest touch on it. One of the best saves I've ever seen.
I will admit that I was part of the support that didn't give us much chance in the second leg, I knew we had a great squad capable of winning any game but being through the last 14 years with town and losing the first leg 1-0 I guess it just felt like it was going to be another disappointment but gladly I was proved wrong and after that I just knew we would win at Wembley
Apart from that drastic blunder when Boggs bravely nodded in the winner that Braintree keeper made some superb saves the one from a vicious Arnold shot was a good one but that Boggs one was world class. Could do a lot worse than sign him as competition for Macca being part time should not cost a lot.

I think he was on loan from somewhere (reading maybe?) so will already be full time and probably paid a decent whack
I have no embarrassment in admitting that I was in tears after Arnold's goal and every time I watch that video, I get goosebumps. Braintree away and Wembley will stay with me till the day I die and I can't even watch the videos of the goal without getting a bit teary. Shows what a fantastic club we are. UTM
I'm enjoying the fact that every single goal had a hint of luck/bad keeping to it. A poorly hit penalty, Braintree keeper coming out and being stranded, same again with the forest green in first, then an awful parry for the second followed by a lucky deflection for the third. Just nice to finally have the gods on our side after all these years and finally have a bit of luck, it was clearly fate.
Not to detract anything from the performance, we were head and shoulders above Braintree in the second leg and FGR!
Hairs on the back of my neck standing up. Tears in my eyes as I did when I listened on the radio to the final. Excellent stuff - wish I was back home for next season - really do!
