If you do ever pass this way, I can assure that the levels of frustration amongst the BP faithful are as high as I've ever known. I sat in an area that is not my normal area last night and to me the most damning quote I heard was 'We've stopped looking like a League club in the Conference, we look like we'll be here forever'.

Two things that struck me from that were, one, that it hit the nail on the head and two, that a new stadium is pointless. Performances like that are not a new phenomenon - many games last season relied on hit and hope to LJL and hope that we get lucky. It wasn't that we didn't know the opposition either. We all know that Clayton has the turning circle of a multi thousand ton oil tanker yet we never exploited it.

It was my first game of the season last night but those around me said we'd only really performed against Alfreton and Chester. Well sorry, if you want to get of this league, games against Southport, Nuneaton and Dover are 'must-win' - nothing less. The sort of games that were a given for the likes of Luton last season, Mansfield the season previous etc.

What does the manager do at half-time? I know it's a leading question but everyone around me could see that it needed a change, system or personnel or both.

My question to you is this : Do you really believe that Paul Hurst WILL take GTFC back to the league? I don't need to add my opinion, that's clear but there are a large number of fans, full-time/part-time/stay-aways who are getting mighty fed up with the sort of intransigent crap that was served up last night. No-one said promotion back to the league would be easy but it's looking further away than ever, especially with a squad that won't be here in 12 months time, and that's a pretty unpalatable truth.

Nothing to add to the above post.  Just a standing ovation!

I remember being pelted with ice by the Norwich fans during the Milk Cup match, do you?

I wish John would come back on here and talk to us,

I bet he is still reading The Fishy but maybe wants to keep his thoughts to himself,

Well John we are not happy , well some of us,

Some are pleased to see us win one lose one because all will turn out alright given time,

How much time does Hurst want,   this season?   next season ?   5 years ?

Please do something John even if it's only a boot up Pauls backside.

Problem is there are too many Dear John threads. The range of views is about as consistent the the GTFC team - world beaters one minute, dross two days later.

The club are lucky that the supporters are still loyal, but I can assure JF that the loyalty will not continue if more pathetic performances like last night are served up. I felt cheated last night by the lack of desire and stubbornness not to change things when everybody around me knew what was wrong. Most clubs in this league would die for having 3K plus gates week in week out

Surely its time for a Lord Fenty press release asking us all to back the manager and stick with the club he has ruined over the last 10 or so years.  My trust for JF wnet long ago, my faith in PH ended towards the end of last season when he failed.  My team will always be GTFC, but it is so difficult supporting them with so many weak links making endless poor decisions on and off the pitch.  I know of people who have wanted to invest in the club, but will not whilst JF is involved, because of this, we will continue our downward spiral.  I don't just want Hurst out, but Fenty too!

People generally are consistent optimists like you Rob or pessimists like me! You must have noticed though that the number of what might be called blind optimists in the nicest sense has gone downhill this season.

The club needs optimists but before too long they will be an endangered species.

There are a growing number of posters on here and a growing number of fans who attend that are unbelievably consistent in either backing or dissing the current manager. Truth is, with our budget, we should beat Welling, Alfreton and Chester, add Nuneaton, Dover and Southport to that list - the only club of our type that we have played dismantled us. That's the truth - and it hurts!

Don't know if you still visit John, but......

Can I have some of those happy pills (if they are legal) you were offering earlier on in the season and maybe have a drive of your Aston Martin because I am not happy with how things are currently looking and need cheering up.

People have gone over this multiple times.

Why should an individual or consortium have to hand over £3m to cover the debt accrued by JF's total mismanagement of the club and financial incompetence?

Why should they? Because JF wants them to

Why would they? Because they've either got money to burn or they are so fed up with the above.

In principle, I don't disagree with what you have said here, but you certainly have a lot to say for yourself and have done for many weeks for someone who not seen the team play this season until last night.

I've been watching Town for 45 years and have been a season-ticket holder when finances and other commitments allow. I prefer to play golf on a Saturday in the summer and watch Town at night/in the winter - not that I have to justify my right to have an opinion. Is that alright with you?

When you read how we have played against Dover, Nuneaton and now Southport , teams we should beat at home  if we want promotion,

You do not have to attend a game to know , it was not good enough.

We are all passionate about the Mariners but let's not take our frustrations out on each other, it's others that aren't delivering the type of performances this club deserves, not the fans.

My point is that you don't have to go to every game to have an opinion about the team you've supported since you were 5. I love GTFC and have done for longer than I care to remember.

That's why a night like las night hurts so much.

I don't think it is really accurate to compare last night's result to those against Nuneaton and Dover because we did at least do something in those two games.

For the Nuneaton and Dover games we had no wingers available at all and this badly affected us as they both 'parked the bus'. Despite this, we still missed a few good chances which would have won us the games (though some shocking defending at the death against Dover almost led to a defeat). Disappointing performances, but nothing more than that.

Last night was an entirely different kettle of fish as we had the attacking players available but were simply outplayed following a disastrous performance by pretty much the whole team. Still shouldn't have lost really as Southport didn't create too many chances but it was a really sloppy goal to concede.

Ultimately, we've taken just 2 points from those 3 games when it could/should really have been 7 points. Things would be looking a lot better with another 5 points on the board.

Whatever happens (and I don't think Hurst will go during the next month or two), we've got to start grinding results out in the home games. We're actually not too bad in away games but we just can't afford to drop so many points at home.

We need sterling performances at home and bury the lesser teams, otherwise support will drop to Lincoln levels and then we are stuck with ever decreasing budgets in this league.

We still could be this years Luton,

They had a poor start but I do not think they had lost 4 games in 13.

But enough's enough.

By the sounds of it you are loosing fans in droves, all because of your manager.

Do figures actually back this up?

Home gates this season in order, including away fans:

Aug
3710
3548
3619

Sep
3785
3300
3245
3353

Gates dipped in September last year where we had home gates of:

2503
3105

There have only been 2 home defeats so far.

Gates are down a bit on last year I think but it's hardly that bad as some would make out. We drew away today which I know was disappointing but we went up two places in the league. Are hundreds of people not going to go who would otherwise have done as a result?

As a betting  man i would say i thoroughly expect a gate of less than 3K on tues,
i hope i am wrong because i am a GTFC supporter, however people have a right to
vote with their feet and i feel this will happen.

Perhaps I'm guilty of over simplification but I firmly believe that as a GTFC fan my "bit" is to get to as many games as possible and support the XI wearing Town's kit. Others may have a different view which is fine by me as long as they don't then come on here lecturing us about what great fans of the club they are and being "cruel to be kind" is sadly the only option left open to them....

The aim of argument or discussion should not be victory but progress.

I know where your coming from . Giving honest opinions of what what was seen , not glossing over the problems we obviously have in a reasoned and eloquent way .
I will be there on Tuesday , but my expectations aren't high with Altrincham getting a good result yesterday . However Grimsby being Grimsby you just don't know which one is going to turn up .
Should there be change ?
Something is wrong and has to be sorted out one way or another very soon . I'm just glad I don't have to make these decisions , the rest of the season and Grimsby Town depends on it .
