Whats the craic in the ponny tomorrow then chaps? Is it one noisy join together in the middle? Is the drum heading over and all singing as one? Will we all be shuffling? Is it scarfes, flags and balloons? Can we return to the days of a carnival stylee, boombastic, all supportive boomshackalack??!!

Why tomorrow? Because Grimsby are playing!!!!!

UTM!

P.S This is not only a pontoon thing, all stands are welcomed and encouraged!!

I was there, the day Bradley Wood scored a 35 yarder!

From the black and white striped shirts
To the fish in the sea
You'll hear us singing
Coz we are Grimsby.

You won't hear us crying

Please stop it you're making me jealous !

You're right it should and could well be all stands but feel it's mainly gonna be the ponny which will be buzzing most of the lot.

Let's cheer the players when their names are called out too.

Get rid of te flipping drum. If you sit anywhere in BP all you can hear is the flipping drum. Any attempt at a song or chant just gets drowned out by boring monotonous, poor drum playing.

What I want tomorrow is the players to fly out the blocks and flipping destroy Braintree. We owe them one and hopefully Newport come unstuck and we fly into top spot.

Well aldi some have talked about the drum "re-inforcing the chant" so guess those suggestions could be taken on board ?
Personally I like the drum though appreciate it's not everyone's cup of tea.

This is the closest we've been to the league since we've been in this hellhole, lets make every home match like a boxing day derby, go the whole bloody hog! Its said, one man can make a difference, lets each and everyone of us be that man! Call to arms people, all fans, all stands,
all together!

I don't know about the joining in the middle, have a feeling a few won't move from the corner which will influence the others. So I think it will be a group in the corner again. But I will be taking my scarf and trying to get it going like we did last weekend. Hopefully it will be ace.

have a feeling a few won't move from the corner

What about the sound bouncing off helping the team, others joining in and all that ?

Don't understand this attraction to the corner, is it more about not wanting to hack anyone off ?
I hope everyone joins together, it'll be a great sight (and sound hopefully).

Quoted from Super Clive
Come on upper! Let's show the ponny how its done!

How noisy was the Upper last time ? Were you on the right ?

At this rate we could have a sponsors "Stand of the Match" award.

We did start a group on facebook to try and get more fans involved and it was named the GY Ultra's, but alot didn't like it as they thought it was us trying to be some one we're not. So it's now called the Pontoon army.

We should make up a cross-stand chant, when I went to a celtic game they had a chant where opposite sides of the stadium had a back and forth and it wasn't just one side repeating what the other said, was unreal

Well there's quite a few old crusties in the Upper (myself included !) - will they join in a chant ?
Guess they'll do mariners for sure...

But might it be best to try to start things off small at first with a "cross-clap" first off ? (everyone might join in that ?)

Just a thought really...

Can't travel from Colchester this weekend due to family commitments, however last week on BBC RH town supporters sounded in absolute fine voice, so if you can beat or even match the woking noise then good effort lads. Looking forward to joining in over christmas leave in Grimsby. UTFM!!

You are right and it was a shame. The Pontoon just does not create enough sound.

The point is, no stand in BP does, lets do all we can, each and every one of us, to change that.

All Stands, All Fans, All Together.

I was there, the day Bradley Wood scored a 35 yarder!

From the black and white striped shirts
To the fish in the sea
You'll hear us singing
Coz we are Grimsby.

You won't hear us crying
But you'll hear us shout
Coz we are the Grimsby
And this is our chant.......... Grimsby! Grimsby! Grimsby!

No offence, many of us have been there, done it, tried it and then the buzz wears off. If performances and results keep flowing then yes the noise levels will rise.

The Pontoon is never going to be the all out rocking noisey stand unless it is near enough full.

Also you are wrng the Upper Findus and Osmond have very good acoustics!

Let the drum make the noise from the corner,

You lads sing your heart out from the middle of the ponny,

While 80's , Chris Mac + family and the other old gits raise the roof from the Findus ,

When we get to the top of the league ( might be today ) we have to stay there until the end of the season,

AND

All the drumming and singing will help.

Maybe if all the singing lot stood in the middle of the pontoon not in the corner will the noise will immediately escape the pontoon might be a little bit louder than normal..

In the first half we were all sat in the centre of the pontoon and we just managed to all fit in however at half time the stewards moved up and told us that we had to move as their was a health and safety issue because there were some people stood where there were no seats. But I thought if there was a health and safety issue surely it should of been dealth with straight away instead of at half time. You will have to ask other people from other stands how we sounded but personally I thought that the atmosphere in the first half was 10 times better than the second.

People were forced to though by the stewards as there was no room in the centre part left and people were not allowed to stand on the top of the pontoon.

Because of Mr Elf N'Saftey ...

You know what to do nexttime lads. One person per seat, and no standing at the back where there are no seats. and ask for your tickets to be in that section you want to be in instead of just all pilling so Elf N'Saftey cannot spoil it.

Noise was superbv in the middle on the pontoon today.
Stewards couldnt let something go though and realised after 45 minutes it was to dangerous to let the drummers stand-up. Fúcking joke, if it was fine for 45 minutes but not any longer.

typical, they did that a couple of seasons back when we did it in the top left. Really pisses me off. If they'd have done it before kick off then i'd understand but they'd just let you do it for 45 minutes?

Well done  though!

Didnt hear much except the drone of the drum over the mumbled chanting......and i was sat dead centre of the Pontoon.

A few occassions when the drum was ditched could hear some singing but what was embarrassing was when you asked Mighty to give you a song...he led you into walking down the Grimsby Rd....to which about three people started and didnt even finish the first line.

I hope you are all enjoying yourselves up there and good to see a conga but please dont delude yourselves into thinking you are creating any kind of intense atmosphere as you aint.

To be fair, I do not think anybody can hear much noise from another stand if they are singing as well,

BUT

If you are sat in a stand that is silent, the other stands sound louder than they are.

Big time !

Well done everyone, loved the conga too !

So much for "sat in the Upper and couldn't hear a thing" - don't believe a word of it !

But why oh why do some always have to think of everything in terms of being a "competition" ?
Really think some people should feel slightly ashamed at their comments on here, there's some right miseries.

If you don't like it in there then my advice is simply to sod off to the Upper.
Talking of which, was pretty dire IMO until the goals went in.
You see could see the kids in the there wanted to join in too and even I was told not to clap.
By my old man quite ironically !
Not that I mind he's only thinking of others but that's the point I suppose.
It's not really a place that ever really "gets things going" until you're already 2 or 3 up.

Too true 80's, there has been a bit of that in the ponny creeping in. Thats the reason a few are trying to knit the crowd back together. I thought there was a togetherness forming today thats desperately needed in the ponny and still the miserable and negative peolpe try to belittle any form of effort or enjoyment???

The stewards moved us at half time as there was too many to be moved in the first, so they waited for everyone to go for a drink, pie etc etc. They said we pay to sit in a seat so should sit in a seat. Daft really I don't think we was harming anyone, and we was willing to put our health and safty at risk. But told us to move, and because there wasn't enough seats for everyone, though there was but no one was willing to move down a row. Shame though as thought it was much better. Anyone saying they couldn't hear us are probaby taking the micky, as I could hear them from the burger bar, so think some need hearing aids no offense. The conga was pretty funny I joined in and enjoyed, if that's a crime sue me. Loving it so far, UTM!

What puzzles me is that there was a 'health and safety risk' all the way through the first half and the stewards did not bother doing anything about it. Surely if they saw a potential danger it should have been dealt with straight away.

Why don't they move the band and the choir to an open corner,

Plenty of room there and they could dance the conga all match if they want.

They were bored and wanted something do, so the usual pick on some fans came to their minds.

Yeh the atmosphere was loads better in the first half, the new drummer needs to sing the chant hes trying to start up though coz sometimes he started banging a tune out and no one had a clue what it was supposed to be. To anyone who says they couldn't hear that get your ears checked, we can hear when a small section of the lower findus claims there was a foul at the far end. Yeh the stewards said they had to move everyone because of health and safety reasons, can't they just put up a rail then at the back? too sensible forget that.

More people joined in today, but theres still a shocking amount that don't even at the left side of the pontoon. I can understand thats not what all people go to a football match for, and some people just want to sit and watch the game, but why the intercourse would you choose to do that at the noisy end of a stand behind the goal with a excrement view, instead of I don't know, sitting somewhere where you can see the football. And im sorry if thats you im picking on, but I feel like sitting there and not joining puts you in the same category as someone who moves in next to a football stadium and then complains about the noise.

Excellent point, it's not a case of having a dig at anyone, I just don't understand it either...

I agree, next time though we are taliking about going for seats same-ish erea but (facing the osmand) the left of the exit tunnel and from top to bottom and hopefully that will stretch out to the middle group too again, but no one standing where there are no seats, so stewards will have to find something else to moan about. I'm surprised they didn't try stopping the conga, health and safety and all that.

The point is, no stand in BP does, lets do all we can, each and every one of us, to change that.

All Stands, All Fans, All Together.

UTM.

I disagree...the osmand, main and upper all have the potential to be loud.

Would it cost that much to put a bit of corrugated plastic at the sides of the ponny to help stop the noise escaping straight out the sides?

Very good idea but how much would it cost to construct. I am sure alot of the pontoon would be prepared to donate money towards it.

Erm, dare I suggest this could be exactly the kind of thing the trust could pay for (depending on how much it costs) ?
If not I'll happily chip in a tenner but how much do you think it might cost ?

Hmmm.
Without wanting to take over any steering of the ship just wonder how many in the Ponny who aren't trust members yet might be prepared to sign up to it if it meant something like this could be achieved ?
Not that they shouldn't sign up anyway of course, but obviously not everyone has been persuaded yet.

Depending on levels of interest (which admittedly could be low although the club could arguably benefit too) perhaps it could be a "win win" all round and everyone could benefit ?

Just a thought.

Well bottom line for me...
If there are enough people out there who want it, can (collectively) afford it and think it's worth it (is it value for money or not ?) then I'll happily be pro-active and contribute without any desire to go asking or begging (or involve) anyone else.
Just so long as the club don't mind of course which is an entirely different issue - they may even be a good reason we dont even know about.

Doubt it would even cost that tbh. However a totally free alternative would be switching home fans back into the osmand. Pretty sure that holds more than ponny aswell, so the club would also benefit from extra income on sell out games (which admittedly are few and far between these days). Not sure how the ponny regulars would feel tho, as the view from the osmand isn't the greatest (although ponny isn't great either).

Anyway, as someone has said, it's certainly something for the trust to maybe look at?

They reckon the back wall isn't safe there.

That's what the stewards told me anyway. In the words of the big female steward, "this wall isn't safe and what happens if you was to lean on it and fall through? It's about health and safety."

Another steward said "you pay to sit in a seat so you should sit in a seat." Which is kinda a fair enough point, I guess.

If that's true (which I highly doubt) then surely it's not safe for that stand to be in use. Full stop. Certainly not the back few rows anyway :/

To be honest, the noisey crew may be better sitting at the end nearest the Findus Stand. I agree about getting some sheeting down the side of the stand.

Does anyone on here have any contacts with a scrap metal or metal dealer.

I would forget about altering the Ponny - Blundell Park can generate plenty of noise with a decent crowd.

If we can maintain this push for the top, I am sure the crowds will gradually increase and with a bit of practice find that Blundell Park roar.

There were a couple of occasions today when the 'Mariners' chant nearly got going - need to synchronise all the stands so they are singing in unison. Let's face it, we have all got out of practice over the last decade or so - it will come!!!

Dunno there were some pretty big and loud crowds when we were in relegation battles, which seems strange to me that theres 2000+ people out there who came to watch a crap team get knocked out of the football league but aren't coming to watch us get back in it (yet) Maybe now with this top of the league business people will really start to pay attention. Expect 4000+ for the next home game?

I'd be disappointed if the Trust or the club wasted any money (when we're losing plenty as it is) on a sheet to cover the left of the pontoon.

It will cost nothing for the people who persist in going in that corner despite knowing the acoustic situation there, all move into/towards the middle of the stand then that will cost nothing. So why spend anyone's money to solve a problem that can be solved with a bit of common sense.

The stewards had every right to move some of them on if they were stood in the isle's. You can't do that at any ground in the country, not just BP. Why didn't the people in the isles just go in the nearest seat around where they was though, instead of just going back to the corner?

Don't be put off by people saying you're not wanted in the middle though. You pay you're money to get in and have as much of a right to be there making noise as someone else has the right to sit there and not join in with singing.

I'm hoping the Lincoln games over xmas will get big crowds and hook people back into coming so we start getting bigger crowds in the new year.

Don't think you was there so I'll let you know, no one was in the isles. The stewards moved fans (I was one of them) from the back of the stand where there are no seats used the excuse of "health and sfety issues." Our argument is, one, we wasn't obstructing anyone's veiw, two, there aren't any health and safety issues, they just wanted to make fans lives a misery, power crazed stewards. There was no problems or complaints from any other fans, the stewards were just bored and wanted to show off what power they have.

Well said.

Gary not having a dig whatsoever but why didn't you all just move into the middle taking 1 seat apiece ?
Do you prefer to be stood up at the back ?
Suppose what I'm getting at is whether you're worried the stewards are gonna tell you to sit down if you move further down ?

That's pretty much it really, I prefer to stand at the back because those who prefer to sit normally sit lower down and if I was to move further down I would be told to sit down. I prefer to stand. But for some strange reason others seem to follow me (not being big headed or anything like that), and that's what happened. I remember the last time I did go further down because there was no seats (back when we was in football league's relegation battles) and I kept getting told to sit down, though I offered to swap seats so I wouldn't be in their way, they refused and I was forced to sit down in the end. I go by that experience to the reason why I won't try it again.

Clive even if people didn't object (which they've been known to), don't you think with the Upper being so high up that it would lose the sound impact ?
Or am I wrong ?
If it could be achieved then great but not convinced as yet tbh...

New idea...

Problem is no-one can stand in the middle to "block" anyones view right ?

So why not just sit/stand right at the very front ?
Isn't there loads of seats and space there ? Would anyone really be blocking anyone's view ?

Don't think you was there so I'll let you know, no one was in the isles. The stewards moved fans (I was one of them) from the back of the stand where there are no seats used the excuse of "health and sfety issues." Our argument is, one, we wasn't obstructing anyone's veiw, two, there aren't any health and safety issues, they just wanted to make fans lives a misery, power crazed stewards. There was no problems or complaints from any other fans, the stewards were just bored and wanted to show off what power they have.

The stand is divided into sections each served by an aisle. In the event of an emergency people need to evacuate the stand by these aisles.
You may  not have been stood in them but without an allocated seat you were overcrowding an area, which in the event of an evacuation is a health and safety issue.
Do you understand that?
Just because a steward has the job of looking after the whole crowds safety, some reasons of which you are obviously oblivious does not make him power crazed or you free to do what you want to do.
See the bigger picture.

Good point. I don't really know why we moved, I know I and the about 20+ others was being moved at the back, but I was just going to move down a few rows, just slightly to the left hand side. But others seemed to of thought we was all moving back, so they, ALL moved. but we are sorting it for next time.

Because there are a few of us noisy ones that seem to start the songs, we will group together and get the seats earlia next time, and then the other lot can follow us when they turn up. Last time we all moved all at once like a mob in a rush lol.

Plenty stand on the top row in the upper Gary and 80s I'm not sure about losing sound because of height that's why I think they should give it ago.

But its up to them..I know I wouldn't like people telling me where to sit and stand.

Maybe I should get a little cheesy drum and get the upper going? Two stands twice the atmosphere?

Go for it, that would get the pontoon going, everytime we do hear the findus we always seem to join in.

Anything to make noise. I'd rather hear a drum or our fans than the away fans. Even if we just clap to a beat it's better than no noise at all. For me it be like going to a party with no music on.

Yeah give it a go and get that drum Clive !

Don't be too suprised if someone tells you to keep it down though.

Well if you want to talk about bigger picture, how about the fact that there's a lot LESS risk when the stands a LOT less full ?

Seems to me what you're saying is, it's ok in the event of the emergency if the stands completely full and everyone's got their seat.
But if it's barely quarter full but a couple of fans are "overloading a row" then it's could prove a nightmare when everyone hurtles for the exit.

Not !

As I said elsewhere these rules are just another "one size fits all" solution.

Not having a good at you moosey but WTF happened to good policing and common sense at matches ?

Crowd dynamics are a funny thing 80's, people do the strangest things in emergencies.  At the end of the day we are in all seater times, half of the lads who go up there have only known all seater times so they should have grasped it by now...... quite simple.......you pay for a ticket which has a seat number on it....you go and sit in that seat and stewards wont ask you to move.
It is not rocket science.
The stand may be half empty but if they are all crowding into one section it will be wont it?
All they need to do is get organised, identify an area they want to sit in, buy those seats as soon as they are on sale and be noisy as they like from then on.

But a lot of us are season ticket holders. Guess that's tough then hey? We want to all unite together and get behind the team, you join us or you don't but we all have that choise. Like some one said before, "we pay to watch the footy and support the club, we'd go whether there were seats or not."

The noisy mob started going in the top corner of the Pontoon about 25 years ago when we used to give the open corner on harrington street to the away fans ,there used to be a great atmosphere in there back in those days and a lot of banter between the two sets of fans.
to get the banter and to get the noise up you have to be next to the away fans

Well I'd hope that's where "common sense" might prevail.
But yeah, suppose it's a lot easier to have hard and fast "rules" just a shame they can sometimes affect people's enjoyment.

The current (left side) of the pontoon (including middle) is the best place for us all, just think about it
-it faces the opposing fans head on
-it's close to the subs warming up
-close to the goal
-overall we like to be involved with players/ action

There's no chance of us all moving to findus or right side of pony due to those points and we're mostly season ticket holders.

If we cannot move into the middle, how about sticking to left side, BUT we will fill the whole column of the left side, everyone will be standing, plenty of seats, and there will be no issues with standing. Surely if everyone joins in it will outweigh the opened side? It also looks good and will increase motivation of the player if we are all standing in a column, flags scarfs etc. (kind of like the Lincoln games when we fill the column, all standing) give it a go?

What's the big deal with standing up? Why don't you lot go in the middle of the Pontoon and just sit down? Even if you can't all be sat directly next to each other.

Blundell Park is a no-standing stadium. And apart from the tin sheds in league two and non-league, you can't stand up at games any more.

Also, just one thing i wish the singing lot in the pontoon would do, is sing the "Scott and Hursts black & white army... *clap*clap*clap*clap" chant a bit slower, so you can actually hear the words of it rather than it being sung at 100mph and just sounding like a load of fast mumbling. Cheers. Not knocking the effort though, can't fault that.

I'm hoping we'll get some of the older songs going once we get some big crowds in for the Lincoln games too.

Because we like to stand. It's a seated stadium but standing is aloud you know. Surely we pay our money to get in, so we should have the CHOISE? Some on here are giving the attitude they don't care because they like it quiet. Well a lot us don't and we pay just like you do.

As for "Blundell Park is a no-standing stadium. And apart from the tin sheds in league two and non-league, you can't stand up at games any more." That doesn't quite make any sense. Of course you can stand at games. I only ever been told to sit by another fan. You can stand if you want, just stand up, simples.

Clubs put seats in stands for fans to sit in them, not to stand up in front of. Why were Town made to turn the Pontoon and Lower Findus into seating areas in the early 90's? Because things were put in place after Hillsborough to put an end to standing at football games.

Only joking though.
Tbh I wouldn't personally do it, simply cos think you've got to respect (or more to the point not block) anyone who wants and pays to sit and watch.

So we should all, shut up and just sit quiet? If that happens, I'll stop going. Because that's just taking the micky. It's not the cinema, it's not a libary, it's a football match. Fans sing, fans chant, fans scream and shout, some fans sit quiet. It's a passionate sport and we all have our own ways of showing our passion as mentioned above, if this is not allowed, I'll sit down and shut up alright, but at home or in a pub with the glorry hunters.

Works both ways though. Like I mentioned, I offered people who was sat behind me to swap seats so I wouldn't of been obstructing their view, but some are too stuburn to do so.

Obviously it's your choice to where you want to sit

But surely you should realise the pontoon is classed as 'the noisy stand' where people stand and get involved

If you was that bothered there are enough seats elsewhere in the osmond findus and main for your view not to be blocked.

Where have i suggested anything like that?

Do your vocal chords become disabled when you're sat down?

Having played the drum during the 90s when playing teams like Blackpool and Sunderland !! i can tell you that, thank god they all got moved back to the corner on Saturday ! my seat being N99 PTS yes it was all great but FFS does every song need the drum no does it F U C K ........ we are town!! does that need the drum, come on (EXCUSE) new to playing ha next joke forget it, if the crowd (which they do VERY OFTEN) start a chant let it be there is no need for the drummer to kill it ! 5 mins behind am all for getting a good atmosphere at BP but, christ 90 mins of football does not mean 90 mins of banging the drum.

Sorry to finish on a low ( as they really do mean good but)

stick with the REAL FOOTBALL CHANTS NOT THE NEW MADE UP SHITE !

No. It isn't.

WOW, i can't believe what I'm reading.

The stadium is an all seater stadium. This means that legally you have to sit down. I am not saying that fans dont stand from time to time BUT legally you buy a seat to sit on.

Standing is not permitted and hasnt been at Blundell Park for many years

Ha, it's a horrible thread isn't it???

The left side don't do this, the middle do that, let's all sit together but the upper can't hear us and the main stand is boring and the ground doesn't hold sound very well but the drummer doesn't sing when he bangs his drum and the middle think we're too noisy and the right side complain and the stewards are nasty and I can stand if I want but if was ok in the 1st half why not the second and who cares blah fooking blah...

The above is pretty much a summary of one of the most cringe worthy threads ever to grace the fishy, surely???

Grow the fook up (not aimed at you Chris), it's like a kids tea party, it's embarrassing...

Chris, I wouldn't waste your time type, it will only go over some people.

The one reason the 'Stand up if your one nil up' and similar songs were created, was because the stewards woukld get the fans sat down, then bang a goal, so the fans would take the pee, stand and sing that.

I remember Preston away, we went 1-0 down withing 5 mins, equalised throuh a free kick.

The stewards and police were trying to get us all sat then after about 80 mins, Town fans sat down, only for Groves to Score and BOOOOOM "Stand up if your 2-1 up"  . I thik there was  alot of problems that day, they were picking on Zulu, till he looked a copper in the eys and said "Is it coz i'm black"....the officer and his chronies soon walked away

Oh watching Town used to be fun, especially when a good friend who went to games was a solicitor, if only he would come back to games, used to be fun seeing him talk down to police officers and stewards

It started out about getting vocal and backing the team. But it's gotten too mamby pamby, and I think most of us are over the age of 20.

What are you talking about? We was talking about grouping together and getting behind the team in our own way, what's wrong with that? Too many complain about too little things.

I agree....start being nasty, hostile towards the other team, We are far to nice these days. Jesus the Pontoon was hell of a place to be in, I loved it as a 7 year old, sat on the rail, chanting some awsome chants, the Pontoon surge, fights between each other when the game was boring.

I know the PC brigade wont like it but THEY WERE THE DAYS MY FRIEND, I THOUGHT THEY'D NEVER END!

Just out of interest which one of the shufflers are you?

Unfortunately I'v been reduced to having to agree with you... I wish them days were back, the Pontoon will never get back to anything like it...

Now we have to put with a bunch of (insert own description) to drag any credibility that stand had down the pan...

God, you see what this thread has done - make marinerian look like he knows what he is talking about for a change... (that's the only compliment you will get out of me)

I know I am always right, do not need you to tell me I am

It is a sad state of affairs, the kids have no idea and have clearly lived in a wishy washy state, back then they would have got a good punch if they acted like a twit.....God I sound like I am 60, but it was true, The Pontoon was a tough stand, full of tough people and as a kid you could see the togetherness. Stewards and police did not run that stand, the supporters policed it!

I think football, like everything else, goes in cycles. For far too long BP has been subdued, both in quality on the pitch and atmosphere off it. This Has to change, we're the highest we've been since that fateful day in burton and this is the first season since we've looked anything like, couple that with a team i believe is WORTH believing in, for the first time in years. A management team who've  had and still got some doubters but in the main most believe they are slowly turning around the entire systematic negative mindset, that has no doubt in my mind been evident for a fair old while. Trouble with rot is, if you don't stamp it out it sets in. Faith and belief are buzz words now, committment and unity are key and there for all to see. How good is that? Is that alone not worth celebrating and getting excited about? The fact this thread has got legs is because this is something lots of people feel a great deal about, thats a sign that positivity is rearing its head, belief and confidence is growing, people want to somehow, anyhow, make the difference. If there's a single person out there who believes that the sound, energy, atmosphere, support, positivity, encouragement, emotion and togetherness was anywhere near as good second half in the ponny, i'd be gobsmacked.

There are wrinkles to iron out, seat selection and willingness to try are one, drumming styles and chants are another. there's more i guess too but it can only get better. The more we try, the more we listen, the better it will be.

I understand that there are many different ways of supporting your team, some loud, some quieter but it seems like some are of the opinion it'll never be better than it was before why bother? If that was the case we should all give up now, in fact whats the point in coming to games with attitude anyway?? I just don't get it.

We are a decent team, doing well in a crap league, lets enjoy being good for once and maybe, just maybe, our fortunes might just change. If there's anything my support can do to influence that change in fortunes i'm in.

gonna sign off with the chant we started the second half with........

WE WANT OUR DRUMMERS BACK
WE WANT OUR DRUMMERS BACK
WE WANT OUR DRUMMERS BACK
WE WANT OUR DRUMMERS BACK.

UTM

I was there, the day Bradley Wood scored a 35 yarder!

From the black and white striped shirts
To the fish in the sea
You'll hear us singing
Coz we are Grimsby.

You won't hear us crying
But you'll hear us shout
Coz we are the Grimsby
And this is our chant.......... Grimsby! Grimsby! Grimsby!

The shufflers in the middle are top lads, stood with them a couple of times and always had a laugh with them. Wish there was more town fans like them.

How low can you go? As if you'd pick on some one's grammer when know nothing about the person you're pulling down. Luckily I can take it and couldn't give two shits if you want to go that low with me. I made a few spelling mistakes. I see there's nothing wrong with your eye sight.

I sit in the pontoon for cup games i shall be getting a ticket but the chances are i won't be sat in my allocated seat, i shall find my mates and sit with them also why can't we stand? Thousands stand up when they should be seated and nothing happens to them, when a goal is scored do we stand up? Yes so why can't we stand up all game if you wanted too? Providing it isn't impeding other people's view

i am a season ticket holder and i always will be one

I sit in the pontoon for cup games i shall be getting a ticket but the chances are i won't be sat in my allocated seat, i shall find my mates and sit with them also why can't we stand? Thousands stand up when they should be seated and nothing happens to them, when a goal is scored do we stand up? Yes so why can't we stand up all game if you wanted too? Providing it isn't impeding other people's view

You'll be asked to move if you're sat in someone else's allocated seat though. Easier just to ask for a specific seat when getting your ticket.

It's not safe to stand for 90mins in a seated stand. All it takes is for a few people to slip/fall etc and you have a domino effect due to seats being in the way. Also if people next to you are seated you'll block their view for parts of the game.

Plus I'm an old illegitimate and I get leg ache.

It's against the law in an all seater stadium.

This, if you know where your mates will be sitting, when you buy your ticket ask for a seat near them.

Isn't there some legislation in place that means that an all seater stadium cannot revert to terracing, but new grounds being built can have standing areas?

All seater stadia came in as a knee jerk reaction to Hillsborough. That's the bottom line, and it's the same for all Football League clubs, so Town aren't going to remove seats now so folk can stand, although there is an interesting debate going on at the moment about allowing certain parts of stadiums to return to standing albeit with the German type back rest seats. I'm sure if the club were going to be come long term non league then seat removal may be an option, but I'm sure most fans would rather see the return of the club to the Football League and no standing facilities?

Having said that, I fully understand that fans do want to stand up, and do so when the opportunity arises....and if the ground's half full and nobody's view is being obstructed it could be viewed favourably. Think a minute though and realise that not all fans wish to join in with standing up to watch football. When I watch my team in Scotland, I always take the option to stand unless it's peeing down in which case I go under cover and sit. Other fans at whatever ground will always choose seats, either because of comfort or for other reasons, family etc. These have to be considered, and that's not something the average football fan with a desire to stand ever thinks about. If I take my grandson to a game I don't want to have to hold him up so he can watch a game because some fans want to stand?

Remember as well, just like pitch incursions, which some fans view as a god given right, that failure to comply with the legalities can put you into conflict with the club. Is it really worth it?

No attempt at ethical or social seduction can eradicate from my heart a deep burning hatred of the Tory party. So far as I'm concerned they're lower than vermin. Aneurin Bevan.

Why not swap seats with the fans stood up, so that you sit front of them and they are stood behind you, no one would be in your way then.

Or, just fooking play by the rules... What is so hard to understand Gary??? You aren't allowed to stand, you want to, but you aren't allowed... So, why should everyone else mess about just because YOU and YOUR cronies want to stand???

Anyway anyone have any up to date proof that it is "ILLEGAL" to stand in front of a seat? And I'll post hundreds or thousands of video clips showing at every match at every English football club of fans standing and stewards and police not enforcing it. If it's so "ILLEGAL" then why at every match and every stadium do fans stand and no action is taken? That's how "ILLEGAL" it is. Are they "RULES" or just guidlines?

Bet the people moaning are ones that either don't sit in the pontoon or don't even go to many games (if any).

So lets get this right then Gary, they made all the stadia all seating but it was only a guideline and infact you can bloody well stand if you want, 'cos you go in the Ponny and want to sing and make some noise.

I think some people may have a slightly romantic view of the Pontoon and what it used to be like when it was a standing stand. It was often only a quarter full and not as noisy as some might like to portray. The atmosphere in the stand had died well before the seats went in. The Police decided to close the back row to fans and instead use it as an easy way to get at 'troublemakers' without having to wade through the seething mass of Town fans. Plod used to stand there all match and it was their presence rather than seats that muted the atmosphere.

Secondly, when it was full it was bloody dangerous, it only took one person at the back reaching into their pocket to cause a huge push with people falling over each other at the bottom.

I used to love the Ponny but that was years ago. Nowadays the most annoying thing about it is the bloody drum and the number of gobby idiots that sit there.

It's people like you who put me off, wanting to go. Like anyone cares (anymore) for other people's safety, if we stand then what's it got to do with those who don't? And if we are in their way, then I have already gave a solution to that, not my fault they are too stuburn to act on the solution. It's down to other fans to enforce the "LAW," if the stewards and police and club ain't going to enforce it, why should you? Leave us to enjoy supporting the club in our own way and we'll leave you to enjoy it your own way. Simples.

It's 90 minutes of your life once maybe twice a week.  So what if you don't agree with someone else's views deal with it.

And at the day it is the law in an all seater stadium.  If various clubs/stewards don't enforce it then that's another matter.

You are not breaking any criminal laws but you are breaking a civil one. The ground regulations state that you must sit in your allocated seat during play, by purchasing your ticket you agree to this "contract". Most clubs won't kick you out for standing momentarily for a goal or a good bit of play but persistent standing can get you kicked out, if the club so desire. You would not be arrested for it as it isn't a criminal law but that doesn't mean you can do it.

You can understand that?

The guy to debating with has a valid point Gary ! as does an fan you buy a ticket which states your ticket number therefore you must sit in that seat (which most dont) but you was to sit in someone elses seat then they have a right to ask you to move ! they have bought that seat...

As goes the standing issue it is an offence to stand up at games where seats are provide, however if you want to stand then so be it but you can NOT expect people that want you to sit down (as your blocking there view) to move. ITS you or the person standing who should move after all you are the one who is putting fans that having being coming for years off !! as they dont need youngsters telling them to move as they want to sit and you want to stand,

IN your defence i stand but the simple solution is buy a seat in the back row of the stand and then your not harming anyone, but Gary please remember its you that is causing an offence not people sitting down

What a fantastically selfish attitude. If you're in the way or putting their safety at risk then it is you who are in the wrong and it is you lot who should have the decency to act on it.

The rules are that you buy a ticket and you sit in your seat. The stewards are doing their jobs. People are standing two and three deep at the back of the Pontoon where there is no seating. It IS a health and safety issue as it is an all seater stadium and is granted its license on that basis. It doesnt matter if you dont agree, its the rules. Its like buying  tin of baked beans and then complaining that you dont like them on toast.

The problem is that this year the stewards are actually doing their jobs and trying to do things properly wheras in previous years that hasnt happened so much and fans have been pretty much been ableto do wha they like. Hats off to the Pontoon stewards for finally doing things properly.

As for the drum, it does NOTHING to add to the atmosphere when played as badly as it was. Its a drum FFS, how hard is it to keep in a rhythm??? Until you learn how to do that properly I dont want the fecking thing back at all!!!!

I don't remember once saying that I don't like your views, I'm merely saying that standing is not permitted in an all seater stadium.  Personally I would like to see a return of areas for people to standing if so wish, somewhere that doesn't get in the way of someone who would prefer to watch the view from a seat.  Unfortunately I don't think this can happen at BP as I don't believe that once a ground has been reverted to all seater, terracing cannot be reintroduced?

Nobody is ever behind me, that happened like 3 - 4 years ago and I sat down. I can't even remember how me being in someones way came into it. I am a season ticket holder, bought second hand so didn't really have the choice in the seat. But I stand with others that are standing, and there haven't been any complaints by anyone in the last 3 - 4 years of me being in their way. be a bit hard for me to be in some one's way when the only thing behind me is a wall. Swear some haven't read the whole thread.

Except you standing is not only putting your own Health and Safety at risk.

If you do fall forward over a seat you hit the people in front of you, who could be any age. I'll be honest I cant abide standing areas at grounds because I am always with my 7 year old who then ends up not being able to see and carrying a dead weight for 2 hours becomes a long day.

I dont have a problem with you standing in areas where you are all standing mind, but it should be just that. All standing or all seating and respecting the wishes and safety needs of others.

How come people have now only just came out, that they have a problem with fans standing where there are seats? I mean everyone seems to be arguing with me, but I'm just going by all the time I have been going, 5 years and I am 24, not 16 or just some kid (just so you know). And it's only been the last 2 days that you have all been having your opinions on the matter, why now? Why not 5 years ago etc?

My opinion has only been voiced on here over the last few days. I have however voiced it on regular occasions at matches when people are standing in front of me.

It just spoils it for the vocal pontoonites though. I mean this thread was about us left corner joining the middle group. We did and we all enjoyed it first half. Then stewards moved us from the back wall where there was no seats, so everyone from the left ended up moving. It had nothing to do with being others ways because we didn't get in anyone's way because we all agreed to join together before the game, otherwise it would of never of happened. Of course we can't please everyone. But how come all of a sudden others who probably don't even sit anywhere near there or even in the pontoon all together have started moaning about it. Well I guess it won't be happening again so should make you happy. Though I have my doubts there is always something to moan about.

I've been sat in the pontoon regular this season and have realised when another part of the pontoon starts to sing a song and is going well the left side seem to ruin it and attempt to sing another song with the drum ,The drummer needs to stop player like the old Lincoln drummer and they need to learn some of the old songs too many new songs who nobody knows and only the top left know another one singing and some of the songs are just cringe

I have said this for years.

We need a balance of good old songs, with good new songs.

The drum does not need to be banged all the time!

Your right Ian , these younger town fans who sit in the Top left need to learn the Old songs and mix it in it's hard when they sing all these new songs and the older lads in the pontoon havent got a clue and when the old chants start the younger town fans havent got a clue and attempt to start another song

I know some of the old ones, one's on my signature. But I'm a quick learner and would learn them and sing them until the younger lads know em, I'm use to singing on my own so this would be no different.

Why not post them on here, I'll post them on facebook, they'll soon get around.

Never heard that one, but then what would I know.

Towards the end of the standing era in the Ponny a goal was always greeted by cheering (obviously) and then lots of jumping up and down to the the main riff from Centrefold by the J. Geils Band.

I'm sure most of them probably remember two different songs. The first and last lines of yours are based on Wanderin' Star by Lee Marvin the middle line doesn't quite fit with that, but does seem to be based on These Boots were made for Walking by Nancy Sinatra. Strangely enough I have heard the middle line sung by the Pontoon in the past. Not the other two though.

I`ve stood/sat in the pontoon for over forty years and loved the atmosphere and from the past, I stood in the middle behind the goal always with the same people around me, however when they started to tumble from the top  swept me up and sent me sprawling on top of other bodies down to the front four rows it was`nt clever and people were hurt especially the old and kids.
This usually happened from corner kicks or a scuffle at the back during an argument, leave them days in the past you don`t need to stand to shout and cheer

the tune from these used to get the Ponny bouncing back in the 80s ,if you just brought your bovril and they started singing this you was probably going to lose it and end up about 10 steps down nearer the front

This thread really has got the juices flowing hasn't it?! Its gone from my original post trying to encourage positivity, energy and togetherness and really just trying to make the atmosphere a little bit better in the pontoon and all over Blundell Park, to crabby little mammary for tats on the rights and wrongs of standing/sitting/singing/chanting/drumming or doing nothing to reminiscing about how good it was, how crap it was, why it'll never be same, how it could still be better than it is now, to slagging off any attempt of fun, creativity and support and lots of advice in there as to how it can be improved for all. Everything we come to expect from our beloved fishy!

The one and only purpose of this thread was to unite two vocal groups of supporters in the same stand, not too far from another in the noisier side of the noisy stand in the hope that it would result in a louder, more passionate, energetic and united vocal support. I think it worked. Fair play to the drummers and the rest of the noisy corner for coming over to us in the middle, really really appreciate it. It was a big step i reckon, groups in crowd tend to stick together and deciding to move over and join us was quality, it in itself showed that the desire to be better exists and that's a starting point if nothing else. Something we can build on. I hope the two groups join together again for the tamworth game, a bit more organisation, some more of that willing and maybe we can help spur the players on again, and have a party to boot!

As far as i'm concerned operation A.S.A.F.A.T is officially underway.

I was there, the day Bradley Wood scored a 35 yarder!

From the black and white striped shirts
To the fish in the sea
You'll hear us singing
Coz we are Grimsby.

You won't hear us crying
But you'll hear us shout
Coz we are the Grimsby
And this is our chant.......... Grimsby! Grimsby! Grimsby!

Kevikov not wanting to male masturbation you off here (pardon my french) but some of your posts on this thread have been exceptional.

Thing is, I'd love A.S.A.F.A.T to work but can it ?
Surely if people want the atmosphere they'll go in the Ponny now and the majority who want to sit in peace and quiet might be elsewhere ?
I'm guessing there may be a few in the ponny who leave to go elsewhere for the peace and quiet too ?
Will some fans EVER join in ?

Sorry really don't mean to urine on your bonfire but just think some don't appreciate chants or too much noise.
Or am I wrong or don't we need everyone for it to work ?

Think you need to be careful what you post on facebook though Gary ?

Or type out a few songs on here and let's try and learn em before matchday ?

Just what I was gonna ask marinerian.
marinerian why not go in the Ponny and lead the kids(well the young ones) with these songs ?
Or if not, anyone who can for that matter...
Or even... (if you're brave enough to) sing it yourself and post if on youtube and link to it here ?
Only been in the ponny once but don't even know some of the new songs, let alone the old ones.

I agree. Though have to admit at times, I go too fast myself. Sorry. But that last bit about the Gressey chip butty one, I totally agree, we do, do it too fast. I love that one too, my favourate one, and would love to hear it slow like the John Denver's Annies song with a mass of fans singing it.

That would be brilliant to hear all round BP.
Any chance you could post the lyrics for "Greasey Chip Butty" at some point ?

See what you're saying and understand your feelings.
Thing is mate, if ALL the older ones like you came on board they'd be a mix of old and young and the younger ones would probably be in the minority anyway ?
Better it gets, more chance others will flock and follow you ?

Anyway no pressure, I appreciate you might not want to stick out like a sore thumb.

Just what I was gonna ask marinerian.
marinerian why not go in the Ponny and lead the kids(well the young ones) with these songs ?
Or if not, anyone who can for that matter...
Or even... (if you're brave enough to) sing it yourself and post if on youtube and link to it here ?
Only been in the ponny once but don't even know some of the new songs, let alone the old ones.

I guess i just figure shoot for the moon, if we fall short we'll still be fairly high up? I don't envisage all four stands at BP to be rocking like a war zone but the underlying message is to spread positivity and pro-active support. That can be done quietly i suppose, i'd prefer quiet spectation and clear applause and cheering rather than moaning or dis-interest altogether.
The ponny is the stand where the noise is made, thats a given. So the ones in the ponny should be working together to make the most noise they can. The lower findus i think is second on the noise scale but their noise is directed specifically to the football and very reactive to whats happening right then and there. We in the ponny only know if its offside or a clear foul if the lower tells us so, we rely on that almost instant commentary we get from the lower, plus, couple that with being closer to the away lot so the oppurtunity to try and intimidate them too. The upper i think has great potential to show the rest how much support can be generated if the desire is there, i'd love to see that stand in unity. As for the main stand, i think Rob Scotts got that stand covered

I was there, the day Bradley Wood scored a 35 yarder!

From the black and white striped shirts
To the fish in the sea
You'll hear us singing
Coz we are Grimsby.

You won't hear us crying
But you'll hear us shout
Coz we are the Grimsby
And this is our chant.......... Grimsby! Grimsby! Grimsby!

Good one.
Nunsthorpe should be the Nunny to rhyme a bit better ?

See what you're saying kevikov.

When I first started going I went in the ponny and the atmosphere back then (90's) was great, the majority of the stand was usually in fine voice, but years have past 10 years of decline and ex fans losing interest.  If we can't get the majority of the ponny singing like the yester years whilst we are doing well and being top if the league there is something majorly wrong.  When I go now I go in the upper findus buts that's only because I go with my dad (who use to be in the gy mob) who likes to see the whole match, I think the next time we go I might encourage him to come with me in the ponny as I miss the atmosphere and chanting etc i find it very difficult to chant in the upper simply because its a family stand.

It's been so long since the old days and fans (whenever they did) just moved on ?

Must take time to re-organise surely, we're barely out of nappies with this one ?

How many for example have stopped going just cos of the atmosphere ?
No idea tbh but wouldn't underestimate the snowball effect - look how far we've all come in a fortnight !

I even find it difficult to clap along without being told to stop.

My old man !
Don't blame him at all though, he's got hearing issues and guess he's only thinking of others too as I was sat in a very quiet "section".

And let's be honest no fornicators gonna hear ME (alone) from top of the Upper anyway.
Was just trying to get a clap going really.
In hindsight a bit silly maybe, not overly suprised it didn't catch on.

I have sat in the upper before, mainly for cup matches courtesy of some freebies. I got some "sinister" looks when i tried a bit of chanting and clapping too!    This was about four or five years ago too. Shame really, there's a blumming great wedge of people up there.

Yeah I've had that as well 80's well I got told to shut the fu(k up and sit down, but like I said my dad prefers the upper but if I went on my own which is rare I would go in the ponny and if someone had told me to shut up I would tell them to fu(k off in a different stand lol.  I understand what your saying 80's about trying to get the ponny back to how it was but tonne it's pure and simple we all need to unite but I guess that's easier said than done.

I have stuck out like a sore thumb for years and at away games was known with my mates for getting an atmosphere going and going barmy at games, far to much abusive language and decided to chill and calm down a bit.

I am not 100% sure on the lyrics and I am sure even more mature Town fans can correct me:

You fill up my senses
Like a barrell of Tetleys
Like a packet of Woodbines
Like a good pinch of snuff
Like a night out in Nunsthorpe
Like a greasy chip butty
You super black and whites
Come fill me again.... (o
Na Na na na na na na Town
Na na na na na na na Town

marinerian thanks wow, seen your tales on here too you've got some crackers, bet you've got a lot more to tell too !

So you think we could return back to the old days ?
Town promotion, standing areas, pontoon bootboys return etc ?

Think you'd get as much stick now ?
Like to think you wouldn't...

Would love to see you and a whole load of you old boys (no offence  ) come back and lead the way again.

Exactly don't get me wrong it would be great to get all stands making the same loud noise, I'm just not sure if it's possible (or at least yet)
Suppose personally just think its easier to focus on getting one right than 4 at the same time or whatever.
But yeah like kevkov says, unite together to the chants and make noise wherever you are and whenever you can.

wooooo sparrow, I am only 31, Pontoon Boot boys well before my time. Talking like that will get Doddsy all excited....I am a gobby twit, though do have a few tales but nothing to naughty to be honest, just boozy antics before the policing of games became so stupid, that 24 hours before and after a game, you can be arrested for a football offence

I don't think the old days will return and to be fair (not that I ever saw that much trouble) it is probably best they don't. We need to move forward, create safe standing. Create a sense of respect between fans, stewards and police too.

I do get stick but also have a lot of respect from many. Had stewards thank me for my sense of humour. Thomas Myrer (former Everton and Tranmere Keeper) shook my hand and thanked me and a few others for our banter....he had a right laugh with us, a true gent too

Maybe the trust could try and encourage a Mariners football singing group together.

I do think the right hand side of the Pontoon would be the best side for the singers. The kids need to start behaving too and not goading the safety staff or they will never gain respect.

I think the singing needs to be toned down and no so forceful. Let the songs flow naturally, without being in peoples faces. I think this is when people get their backs up. I have been guilty of doing the same in the past as often some of us get a bit to enthusiastic

For me getting the fans in the right hand corner, and trying to get the Findus noisy bunch towars the Pontoon side of the stand could help massively.

At Town we have forgotten how to enjoy ourselves and have a good sing song. 1998 and 2006 were the last real times we had or nearly had promotion.

Also we must make BP intimidating to players of the opposition. I do not mean hurling foul and abusive insults, I mean creating a noise that puts them off their stride.....shame we can't sign Danny O'Donnell to sing, God I hate that Irish girl private!

I emailed John Fenty about the atmosphere at BP.

I mentioned about getting the noisy crew into the Findus end of the Pontoon, as may get the Findus going. He is forwarding my emails to our Ground Safety Officer.

I also mentioned we do need respect between, fans, police and stewards as at times this has been missing for sometime

He agreed that the atmosphere was a bit flat around the ground on Saturday too and wants to see if this can be changed.

He always trys to reply to emails and deserves a lot of respect for this.

I hope we can get some sound in the ground and push for the League place!

It's like this anyway Aaron;

Can't hear the away fans sing,
Can't hear the away fans sing,
Can't hear the away fans sing we'll sing on our own,
We'll sing on our own,
We'll sing on our ooowwwnnn,
This is the best trip, I've ever been on...

Inplace of "away fans" it be who ever we're playing, for example "we can't hear the Lincoln sing...

No chance of getting the atmosphere going, it's modern football for you, they want you to 'respect others', but won't respect those who actually want to create an atmosphere to back the boys. It's all about those families nowadays, the ones that go in to 'sit down and watch the game' (the kids spending the entire time playing on a phone or asking their dads for a burger), meaning anyone who gets in their way is an inconsiderate anus. It's not hard to categorise the ground. Findus-general stand, for anyone, good views etc. Main stand-'family end', cheap deals for families in here, quiet and we can get mighty over there to entertain the kids who are there to 'watch the game' (bullshit). Pontoon-singing end, obviously don't have to sing etc but if you like hearing an atmosphere etc, could do cheaper deals for young adults etc to get em involved. Everyone's happy, an atmosphere gets going and no one moans because someone's in the way of their view of a corner flag. If standing comes back in the pontoon can revert to standing and the other two can stay seated. If people want to sit behind a goal without an atmosphere then open parts of the osmond for us, we give away fans a bizarrely high amount of seats

Think you make some interesting points in your post.
Only thing I'd say is, as fun as it might be to have that fan rivalry etc, it's not the only way to make noise or have a good time.
More "love" you throw on the team better they should respond. (but IMO don't just throw it aimlessly if they're coasting for example)

Not saying you shouldn't have a bit of banter and tongue in cheek needle with the away fans (or the opposition players IMO) but take it too seriously, that's where unwanted problems can soon occur.

Round two of "party in the ponny?"

Thanks to the santa suits, hat and beard sets and what i interpret as a genuine desire on the clubs behalf to generate a cracking atmosphere friday night, its now up to us to really deliver, drummers - get drumming, singers - get singing, shufflers - get shuffling, crowd - get loud!

UTFM!!

I was there, the day Bradley Wood scored a 35 yarder!

From the black and white striped shirts
To the fish in the sea
You'll hear us singing
Coz we are Grimsby.

You won't hear us crying
But you'll hear us shout
Coz we are the Grimsby
And this is our chant.......... Grimsby! Grimsby! Grimsby!

Sounds lie everyone should get their dancing shoes on!

Have followed Town for all my life during the ups and downs.

My son plays for school of excellence which is so well run without any funding and can see some future stars in the lower age teams.

Too right. There will be hundreds in fancy dress, Santa suits, Reindeer outfits, Snowmen outfits and then there's lots more with hats and beards. Going to be an ace atmosphere.
