Set to have a medical in the morning, according to ITV.

Await the inevitable "couldn't give a monkeys" from the same old bores but for what it's worth...

Think this is decent business from Arsenal. £24m for a striker not far off his 30s with a terrible injury record and questionable attitude.
United desperately need a midfield maestro tho if they're to get anywhere near City this season.

Right on cue. I wonder, should Town be bought out by an Arab oil billionaire and make it to the Premier League and Champions League if people would have the same opinions?

Chelsea to finish ahead of United. Kagawa is a great signing but with any luck Van Persie will spend the season injured. City will run away with it this year.

Not a bad signing.

The English duopoly thus becomes more entrenched.

Hoorah.

Would that be last season when he scored 30 PL goals, or the one before when he got 18?

Class player and (unfortunately) a great signing for Man U. They're certainly not short of attacking options, possibly even better off than City, but like the OP says, still need a midfield (Yaya would boss 3 Carricks).

I heard that he'd failed a medical due to a bad back brought on by carrying Arsenal for the last 3 years.

Kagawa looks a good signing though from the few games i've watched of him on telly. Good deal for Arsenal this though with an injury prone player with one year left

Yeah, I've not seen him but from what I've read he sounds like a decent player. But is the van Persie signing bad for Kagawa - sure I read he was better behind the striker than out wide and if they're planning on playing Rooney AND van Persie...

Saying that, squad game anyway. Even Town have got top class subs these days!

I'd have preferred Man U to sign Walcott, Wilshire and Oxtail Soup from Arsenal to give their line up more of an England feel. Oh and send Young packing. Or Arsenal could sign Rooney and Gerard and keep the afore mentioned. That team would certainly challenge for honours. But in reallity I couldn't care less

OK, I'll re-phrase my original reply, I admit I worded it badly..

If you're not interested in Premiership football, dont open a thread which is quite clearly about said competition.  This is in no way an instruction, so please don't take it as such, but if you do open it, and find content that you're not interested in, dont whinge.

That better sweet pea?

Why do muppets create threads on the premiership on here? This is a Grimsby Town football forum people come on here to talk about gtfc and get get away from the premiership, I'm pretty sure most football fans have access to sky sports news or talk sport / radio 5 these days and don't need telling on here about a van Persie flipping medical.
Keep it gtfc no gives a flying intercourse on here about the dirty filthy bloated premiership.

hate the premiership......the behaviour of the players.

But do Premier League players behave worse than lower league players (or even blokes in 'normal' jobs) or do we just hear about it more?

We've all heard of Luis Suarez but who knows Danny Hylton?

I was merely posting info on arguably the highest profile British transfer of the summer that I thought some people (obviously not you!) may have been interested in.  As I've said, you could have just ignored the thread if it was of no interest to you.  Sweet dreams treacle

I have to agree with others on here that through the years I have slowly lost interest in them prem I'd still watch the odd game but money has certainly destroyed the prem there a bunch of greedy sods, I'd rather those sort of wages go to nurses.

Until Russian oligarchs buy a load of nurses, or millions of people worldwide tune in to watch nurses, comparisons like that remain pointless. Unless footballers are paid for by the taxpayer of course.

That I'm not disputing mate, and like you say, no comparison.

It's like comparing how much money Usain Bolt earns from running for 9.8 seconds in Ostrava with a young private spending months in Afghanistan. No comparison.

Bring it on Rags, I would much rather have Kun Aguero & Tevez (with Balotelli as back-up) anyday of the week

I tend to agree. I always thought van Persie was more ambitious but hey there you go. Maybe it's because he's been at Arsenal for so long; when you've been at a club that hasn't won anything for years you become naturally attracted to clubs that haven't won anything for a while.

£24m for a 30-year old injury prone player with one good season under his belt, plus £46m in wages over 4 years, doesn't seem that good a deal. City have dodged a bullet.

Mr McGee, don't make me angry. You wouldn't like me when I'm angry.

You could say the same about film stars, F1 drivers, bankers, lawyers etc.

Not forgetting that some American sports 'stars' are also paid 1 million per game.

My mrs gets paid 23k mate and is a fab nurse and yet they save lives compare that to a greedy footballer there's no comparison.  Maybe a Russian nhs owner will work wonders lol

The tax on Van Persie'wages give the treasury enough money to staff a hospital wing. . . He's saved dozens more lives than your missus!

Not if he employs Jimmy Carr's accountant!

to me it's an average signing, in my eyes he's the kind of player who needs to be 'a big fish in a small pond' Also with the likes of rooney, hrnandes and wellbeck (and any ive forgotten) why spend so much on another striker?

I don't really follow the premiership much, well not this premier anyway

I know they've not won anything for a while but I wouldn't really class Arsenal as a 'small pond'.

I think United will win the league, City haven't strengthened their squad, and united have, and City only won the league on goal difference. So If the likes of Vidic and Van Persie stay fit, they will run away with it. But I really hope the title goes somewhere else, I think Arsenal will surprise a few this term.

He was a big fish in a small pond at the gooners.

Name another top class player that he had alongside him last year?

Apparently he made his debut last night. Can't say that I noticed him to be honest.

And is it any wonder why so many people dislike Man Utd when Fergie comes out with quotes like...

"Fellaini is a handful: he is a big, tall, gangly lad and they just lumped the ball forward to him, THAT'S ALL THEY DID."

Maybe if he showed his opponents a bit of respect every now and again, he might just get a bit back.

What a poor loser, I dont think that United were particularly bad last night and had most of the possession. They just were not as good as a very impressive Everton side of which Fellani was general who bossed the game.
