The team is:

Mckeown, Wood,Thomas, Miller,Ford,Artus,Thanoj, Niven, Elding,Daley,Cook.....so quite a strong team and apparently we're 1-0 down and it is half time.

2-0

"‏@LincolnMariner
Then, the other side of him, he gives it away just outside our 18 yard line, and Celtic striker tucks it away,1 on 1 with Fleming.2-0 Celtic

Great last ditch defending from wood. On his won at back."

Why, Fleming is in goal and it's not all first teamers, it's not like the Gimp and Scunt games.

Supporting the Mighty Mariners for over 30 years, home town club is were the heart and soul is and it's great to be a part of it.

I know it is only pre-season etc etc, however if we're losing to teams like today, we're gonna be nowhere near the play-off spots I'm afraid

Its pre-season, results mean nothing, sounds like two defensive mistakes, lets get them out of the way now in friendlies. Wood won't be first choice anyway.

agree about the results as the managers may be tinkering with formations/partnerships etc.Similarly on a national team level some countries go into world cups /euros on the back of doing really well in friendlys yet when it comes down to competitive competition  struggle

Did Stephen Brogan play for Stalybridge Celtic? because he's been trying to get a move to town the last couple of seasons, so maybe this match was to see how he plays or to have talks with him.

Well the fact he isn't local

Good player and think he'll be first choice over the season with hatton in cm. Okay he might of made a mistake tonight but the lad was the best player on the pitch against hull by a mile.

Don't be pedantic, you know what i meant, the fact he has come through our youth means fans think he is better than he is, or are blinded by it and want him to do well as he is one of ours.

See - you bring Simon Ford back and start conceding. And for those people thinking that Wood should be first choice right back, get real. Hatton is more than twice the footballer Bradley Wood is.

there is an element of that Iam sure but you cant deny the lads commitment which is second to none and the reason why I feel is well liked by a lot of our fans

tend to agree look what he did for them at Alfreton one of the main reasons they now play in the blue square premier  as opposed to the blue square north

Showed some pace and a few nice touched early on in the game but faded out in the second half. Bags of pace but little end product. Be surprised if he gets another run out.

Think he's now moved to Southend

Cheers for that mate never knew, maybe we should of taking a look at him. Because i think he would of liked to stay local, but looks like Southend are going to get him. Good luck to him that awful injury he had stopped him from playing in the Premier League.

Ok, confidence gone down even further now. Nothing this pre-season to show that we can compete against the more 'up n at em' sides.
Ie. the majority of this league.

Very slightly worried now.

Pre season H&S stated before that the players will be pushed in training so that they stay the course over the season.  We have won games when it mattered and this result is nothing, some players would have got themselves into the starting 11 and others haven't.  The only results that matter are league ones so I won't be flapping until after 10 league games.

Oh no we lost a friendly match, the over optimism has now gone.....

Said all along 5th place is where we will finish. Improving from 11th to the play-offs will be an excellent season.

This.

FFS people, that's our third game inside five days as well as (probable) intensive pre season training.  Perhaps we should all retain a little perspective!

Who is your fiend....Stevie Wonder?

No, just someone who has been able to retain a little perspective

This.

FFS people, that's our third game inside five days as well as (probable) intensive pre season training.  Perhaps we should all retain a little perspective!

Keep him as a friend great optimists are very rare Barralad. If you want perspective he goes: Town played well for 14 minutes and fashioned a few chances and Cook should have at least scored once. Not once did our midfield either half get going and in the entire second half we did not manage to string 2 or 3 passes together. We were gifted our goal and could have been playing today and wouldn't have scored.  We played the long ball most of the night and made it easy for them. Barton, second half Lincoln and now  last night doesn't bode well for Saturday. That's perspective- but if we manage to win on Saturday with an impressive  performance I will be on here like a shot apologising for my obvious hysterical perspective.

Pre season H&S stated before that the players will be pushed in training so that they stay the course over the season.

would be interested  to know who is the most committed of our  players within the squad.I know players like a drink(as long as they dont overdo it there's nothing wrong with it-eg like at the top where the most professional of players "Messi,Cassilas " stick to 1-2  glasses of wine a week .Reading other athletes and their training regimes its the ones who are prepared to sacrifice  everything in their pursuit of their goal that what separates the elite from the good to the mediocre.

I ain't worried lets be honest would the result and performance be different if we were playing at home? Possibly we have played a lot of friendlys away from home.

I'm sure when it matters it will be a different story, lets just do our bit as fans.

Apart from Hearn, it was a full strength town but we looked feeble going forward. Time and time again, Shaun Pearson and Ford would just hoof it up for a goal kick despite passing options being available. Major improvement needed for Southport

Stalybridge last paragraph of match report!!!!
Grimsby were looking for an equaliser to salvage some pride, but their best efforts were fielded by Ralph and he finished it off with a reaction save having seen Craig Disley’s shot late.

All in all, it showed what a couple of weeks of training can do.

I realise how it must have come across but my comment wasn't directly aimed at you-more the general tenure of the thread. As I clearly wasn't there (quite glad about that actually!) I respect your view-now that you have actually expanded on the Stevie Wonder comment. I haven't seen any of the pre-season matches due to my current indisposition so am reliant on the views of others. Others who attended support your view which for me adds even more weight to it.

Thanks,

P.S. I have it on good authority that we actually played well for 16 minutes. Are you sure you were there?

My take on the game was that we were the better side in the first half and delivered plenty of decent crosses into the box but nobody got on the end of any of them. They had 2 chances first half and scored one when Niven completely missed his kick in the area and their player couldn't really miss. I though Niven's passing was greatly improved from previous games though and Cook also put himself about a bit and with better finishing could have scored a couple. The trialist Luke Daley looked pretty lively too.

7 changes at half time and it seemed to upset the rythm of the team and we created very little. Their 2nd was a decent finish and our goal was rather comical. They brought on a sub goalie (don't know if he was a trialist or was actually their player) but within 30 seconds he fluffed a clearance which went straight to Greg Pearson and although it looked like he had taken too long he eventually put the ball into the empty net. About a minute later the keeper fluffed an easy catch and then went down injured. He ended up limping off as the Stalybridge management went down the tunnel to call the original keeper back who had gone to get changed.

Bradley Wood did well again but the 2nd half performance was very poor. Just a note if we do ever play there in a league or cup game in the future, make sure you get a taxi or bus from the Town Centre and the hill up to the ground is almost on a par with the one to Forest Green. Nice quick 5 minute walk back though.
