I was there, the day Bradley Wood scored a 35 yarder!

From the black and white striped shirts
To the fish in the sea
You'll hear us singing
Coz we are Grimsby.

You won't hear us crying
But you'll hear us shout
Coz we are the Grimsby
And this is our chant.......... Grimsby! Grimsby! Grimsby!

I have been to hundreds and hundreds of town games, far too many to count,

Alas since moving to Suffolk 25 years ago I can not get to many home games, maybe 2 or 3 a season,

Only good thing about living so far from Blundell Park is there are a lot of non league sides in travelling distance from here,

So I manage to see Terry and his gang on 3 or 4 occassions.

like so many people on here, i used to be a regular home and away following town all over the country. I now live just outside hull and work weekends so i am unable to get to hardly any games at all, IT DOES NOT MAKE ME ANY LESS OF A FAN JUST BECAUSE I CANNOT ATTEND REGULARLY, i was there for the hull game the other night and was impressed with what i saw of town to be honest , had not seen them at all the previous season. If i didnt work weekends and lived just round the corner from the ground i would never miss trust me, but money/work dictates for many of us.  We are all town fans but some of us can only show it on here for the majority of the time.  UP THE MARINERS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Living in Manchester its hard to get over for many games but just cos I don't get to every home game surely doesn't mean I'm not entitled to an opinion? Or perhaps only season ticket holders should be allowed to post on here?

Agree totally with this

I haven't lived in GY for over 30 years now

When I first moved away (to MK) I would be back every weekend then over time other things gradually took over but I ALWAYS used to be an avid teletext viewer etc and have the Sports Telegraphs sent to me to see what was going on

Then when kids came along and money had to go their way, my attendances dropped off even more alarmingly but I never ever once gave up on us

I remember driving 20 / 30 miles from where I lived in Northants just to listen to odd bits of commentary on the car radio but thankfully when the internet got going big time, the old Fishy, Mariners World and other sites provided the lifeline

I moved back up to the Humber region 7 years ago but still have to travel 50 miles to BP so I can get over a lot more often now but my heart always belonged to this club...like the old song goes, First Love Never Ever Dies

That's unfortunate... Perhaps try moving a bit further away to combat the situation...

Whoa there fella-be careful what you are saying. The vast majority of people who travel on the battle bus are not xenophobic in any way shape or form. You may have an issue with Terry but don't extend it to a group of people you know nothing about.  An apology might be in order?

As The Fishy has over 4,500 members I'd like to think at least 350 actually go to BP occasionally.

who cares?just like If we make play offs more fans will come out of the woodwork, when they haven't been to a single game all season... Who cares its still good money and publicity for the club... Just like the more people use the fishy ... The better publicity for the club. I'm a huge Grimsby town fan however work away in Colcheater so make about 10 games a season, however I find the fishy very useful to keep up to date with news and transfers ect as the OS is crap and only good for highlights. I guess what I'm saying is the more people that use this site the better, regardless of their attendance records. that is all

I made 6 games last season due to work commitments, Does this make me less of a Town fan than someone who made every game. ?

We are all town fans but some of us can only show it on here for the majority of the time.

Think that is the perfect answer, the fishy is an open forum, were anyone and everyone can register. Of the current 4,569 members, I would say approx 3200 ish would be actual Grimsby Town fans, the others are fans of other team, rivals etc etc...

There are always going to be exiled fans, fans that work weekends, fans that have other commitments etc, this just not make them any less of a fan.

Grimsby have a hardcore of 250-400 fans that will go to 80% of the away games, and 2700 ish average for home games.

If a fan can only make it to 6 home games a season because of other commitments or work, this does not make the person who goes to the 23 league home games and more of fan then them.

I went to 15 away games last season and about the same for home games, I also went to watch Chelsea home and away inc European away games.

My point is people have other commitments, other interests inc work, this does not make them any less of a fan of GTFC, and sometimes the only way to get first hand reports on matches including while the match is being played is on the fishy, I know I have logged onto the fishy to look at match threads while I have been at a Chelsea game.

Grimsby fans need to stick together, stop the childish squabbling between each other and help get the team out of this awful league and back into the football league, every fan of GTFC will want the same thing, good performances, home and away wins and promotion.

END.

As someone who has managed to attend the vast majority of games at home and away for the last ten years or so I sometimes wonder whether I'm guilty of a lack of perspective about the importance of following a lower league football club. I consider myself to be very lucky that i've never been forced to move away from the town for work and fully understand that lots of people would find absolutely no difficulty in putting their future livelihoods and families above GTFC!
I don't know if it is the same for all teams but at away games there are always a lot of fans who come under the banner of exiles-fans who take every opportunity to see Town but are precluded from regular attendance by the cost of travelling from wherever they are to Grimsby. I have a close friend who lives in London who probably makes half of Town's home games in a season. Given the cost associated with that you could build an argument to say that his commitment is greater than mine as I enjoy free bus travel to B.P. courtesy of Stagecoach.
This "I'm a better fan than you because I haven't missed a game for x seasons" is and will always remain absolute nonsense.
As for the Fishy I think one of it's functions is to give Town fans across the world the means to stay in touch with matters relating to the Mariners. I've seen posts from fans in Australia, USA, Asia. Their views, for me, hold as much relevance as the person who lives in Constitutional Avenue.

The aim of argument or discussion should not be victory but progress.
