Actually, I don't think Hayes was the first time Town have played in Surrey. According to the results database, we played Old Carthusians (Charterhouse School) in an FA cup match a few years back  . I assume that as it was an away game it would have been at Godalming, Surrey. Sorry!

Crystal Palace's Selhurst Park is in Surrey too.

And it should be Men against A's.

I hadn't realised that Woking are top of the Blue Square South and so possibly will be playing Hayes next year (if Hayes stay up)

Selhurst Park is in The London Borough of Croydon which is in Surrey.

The Oval, home of Surrey County Cricket team isn't in Surrey then going by your logic Rob?

Sorry Les, but Rob is correct. Not been part of Surrey since 1889 (when you were probably just a lad so you can be forgiven for the confusion). London borough since 1965. The locals still like to think they are in Surrey though.

They've always been in Surrey. Just like Grimsby has always been in Lincolnshire.

Woking, Guildford and Leatherhead are the only towns in Surrey who have ever had half decent football teams.

There has never been a league football side in Surrey, despite it being one of the largest county, and the wealthiest.

The confusions comes from the fact that my brother lives less than half a mile from Palace's ground and his postal address is Thornton Heath, Surrey.

But there has been an FA Cup winning club.

True, assuming Old Carthusians F.C. actually played in Godalming back in the era when players wore their normal day time clothes to play in!

Don't forget the Staines Massive who are only a division below us. Surely this must make them at least half-decent?

This would assume you are classing Grimsby as at least a half decent side at the moment. Since we are constantly reminded by many that this is Town's lowest ebb you could be opening up a debate

It was also one of the few times where the catering van has stayed open right up until the final whistle and they were shouting at us as we left to come back again on Saturday as they'd done the best business all season. Apparently they normally only do the Woking games but they earmarked a handful of H&Y games where it would be worthwhile them opening.

Whether that means that there are no catering facilities there when they play the smaller team like Bath, Kettering & Lincoln etc, I don't know.

This adds to the conspiracy theory that Hayes etc are paying the officials to keep Town down to boost their burger sales. It all adds up now.

Its lucky they had their old catering van nicked a few weeks ago. Kingston is also the home to Surrey County Council.

Kingston is in Surrey postalwise but is a London Borough (not Greater London as Maggie Thatch killed that off as a legal entity in her reign).

Cwoydon, Satton and (half of) Richmond are also London Boroughs (the other half being in Middlesex).

So you are all right.

There. A peace maker at last.

Oh, and Surrey is replete* with decentish** football clubs.

As well as the others mentioned there's Corinthian Casuals, Kingstonian, Sutton Utd, Carshalton Athletic, Croydon Athletic, Whyteleafe,  Walton Casuals, Walton & Hersham, Godalming Town, Tooting & Mitcham (the Mitcham bit anyway, and they play there). Even the Met Police (Ryman Premier. Based in East Molesey)

* that's a very Surrey word.
** by which I mean they get paid

PS and we could be visiting Sutton Utd next season too who could come up via the play offs.

Like Woking, they should survive at Conf Prem level too.

That's probably got a lot to do with it. I mean the fact it has been wealthy for most of the modern age. It's had some top level football clubs in its day but they were amateur and against things like the Football League. The Casuals and the Corinthians are two that spring to mind (now one club of course).
