as its my 5000th post (i know, I've got too much time on my hands!) rather than the normal 10 best/worst players etc I'd do my top 10 fishy moments
feel free to add/ criticise

1) the discussion was about german footie and obviously someone alluded to their 2nd world war conduct, to which a reply came 'i wonder what the poles would think about that?' quick as a flash came the post ' i dunno but i'm off down the car wash so i'll let you know!'
2) poojah's rant - simply brilliant
3) wayne - i miss wayne - very clever whoever that was, always made me smile
4) the golden oldies - they come round at least once a month - peter bore/danny north/scunny's away support
5) mike newell's appointment - some genuine excitement greeted that ill fated appointment - the board almost melted down
6) the present fenty/trust debate - apart from the odd tw.a.t the debate has been long running, sensible, intelligent and informative
7) the karen leonard thread - some great piiss taking went on in that one
8 ) - the old hooligan threads - i know it's not big and it's not clever, but that's how it was and i had some great memories and made some great mates during that time
9) used to enjoy the old chat room on a saturday afternoon- some good banter on there
10) the various threads where the fishy community came together - grimsby pete, bike to the bank, the gates painting etc etc

it's been fun and i hope the fishy continues to thrive , we had  a sticky period a while ago when a number of morons appeared but we seemed to have regained the old ways of being piis takers/informative/well thought/humorous posts

Golden moment, made all the more memorable by Davey B's bold prediction that Newell would NOT be getting the sack, about 20 minutes before the news broke

I think, remarkably, he repeated the prediction about 20 minutes after the news broke.

What about the fella who attempted suicide and loads of people on the Fishy rallied to save him. Not sure whether that was a good or a bad Fishy event but it was certainly memorable.

Grimsby Pete. Gets a mention in number 10.

If doing my own list I would add your recent 80sglory smack down.

I might be making it up but I think 80's Glory once posted something in a succinct manner avoiding any condescension. What a glorious day that was.

I'll also throw into the mix the day some twit came up with CDAJATL. On literally no occasions since, this delightful little acronym has amused and beguiled me. I particularly love how it can be used in reference to someone who is clearly not good enough, someone who may be good enough or (most hilariously of all) someone who is clearly too good.

It just shows you that I am a genuine fan and also that I am not in the inner circle, which in all honesty I should not be.

The Help for Grimsby Pete sticks in my mind, People sticking together and helping a fellow Mariner in need was fantastic.

The Poojah Rant sticks in my mind too, I had just got into work on a sunday morning and read it - it made my 12 hour shift a lot more bearable.    I often go back through the archives and read Poojahs rant.

For me the fishy is a fantastic forum and there is some great posters on here.

Some of The BP Vicars rants and posts were classic. So many people got angry with some of these, especially the Spurs fans!

Oh dear someone is a bit to serious.....The Vicar has entertained us all with his late night drunken antics in the past.

It is clear to see he has altered his ways and now he supps Pimms in his outdoor swimming pool, jacuzzi, birthing pool or what ever it is he has.

Has to be Aaron declaring proudly to everyone that he's been labelled the next Michael Barrymore. I'm still not sure if he's genuinely pleased with it, or he's taking the urine out of all of us.

He's got aspirations to be the next Gary Glitter I've heard

Other memories stick in my mind are the build up to the away game at tranmere when we went down. Think half the away fans that day were on the fishy til about 3 that morning. Sick with nerves and excitement.

Also the one dedicated to me was about 16 pages long!!

Was that 16 page thread from the fat girls who went to Walkabout and got their mammaries out on the dance floor for you......mate they were great boozed up weekends.....though slightly surreal! You was the piper of Hamlen but fat women following you around the dance floors

I think the classic Icenian moment referred to earlier in the thread is when he admitted to going for a crafty half-time cigarette behind the Main Stand. Only problem is that he used the common abbreviation for cigarette which, for those who had the swear filter activated, came out as 'I went behind the Main Stand for a half-time homosexual'.

Just read the karen thread again.  Although I know her a little bit, the thread still has me in stitches until it turns a bit serious.  Pages 6+ are funnier than anything else I have ever read on the internet.

I had a mate ask me who Poojah was.  He is a Forest fan, living in London at the time.  Love both Poojah threads, truly inspirational.

The best has to be Poojah. The gaze of the national media came down on us. The worst moment was Dark Force, a dark day that was!

The Poojah rant took the internet by storm so has to be the most memorable but as clever as it was, it was a sad indictment of the state we were in back in the 09/10 season

The funniest poster I've seen has to be Spoony although the pictures he had as his signature meant sometimes the Fishy was NSFW

All in all, this is a really good site and I'd argue the envy of many fan sites of lots of clubs bigger than ourselves

That was back in 2004 so not the same thing as the current Fishy....it would have been the Electronic Fishcake on the old rivals network

Talking of which what happened to Billo who used to moderate on there?  Wasn't it him who caused a split in the ranks and the formation of the Grim Outlook?

He was a factor in that split yes. The old Electronic Fishcake site on the Rivals Network was far superior to the fishy, and the GO as it is today, but became more and more compromised, neutered and ruled by stubborn and short-sighted admin. Grim Outlook was formed in response to that when a bunch of us left and started again. I was posting on TEF when we were a Championship club, and having regular banter with the likes of Sheff Weds, Hull City, Wolves, Portsmouth etc. I can't say I remember half of the incidents listed in this thread but then I didn't bother with the fishy for years after until this season, when I felt like returning under a new name. Anyway, trust me....the electronic fishcake was great, but was ruined by pigheadedness and short-sightedness.The GO is now too quiet but doesn't have anywhere near as many semi-literate teenagers as the fishy.

I remember TEF and was also posting there when we were in the Championship, again under a different name. I don't think this board can ever be as good as TEF at it's height. Invasions, tales of Guernsey Mariners breakfast, Mattymariner, HumberstonMariner etc. the virtual fisticuffs were far more entertaining than anything on here, a bit more thought seemed to go into them. The split seemed to take all the best posters (IMHO) to the GO, some have returned I believe. Cliquey maybe but also one of the funniest, wittiest football forums on the net.
