The Football Conference today announced the opening and closing dates for the 2012/2013 season.
The Blue Square Bet Premier Division season for 2012/2013 will commence on Saturday 11 August 2012. The Blue Square Bet North & South season will open on Saturday 18 August 2012. All will close on Saturday 20 April 2013.
The fact that Wembley will once again host the Champions League Final with the inherent 14 day clear period for games at the Stadium has effected the Play-Off dates with the Conference keen to retain Wembley as the venue for the Premier Division Play-Off Final and not move it elsewhere as they did last season.
The closing date is therefore one week earlier than has become the norm in recent years due to the required scheduling of the Play-Off matches at the end of the season. The Blue Square Bet Premier Promotion Final will be played at Wembley Stadium on Sunday 12 May 2013; the North & South Finals will be played on the ground of the Club that finished highest in its respective Division, on Sunday 5 May 2013.
Very early finish next season. It begs the question why they bother having the playoff final at Wembley....

I totally understand and would support the argument for having it at a decent premiership ground for a less-empty ground and better atmosphere.
But imagine you are Liam Hearn for a second. He's grafted and worked hard to progress up the non-league ladder to get to where he is now. But he's never going to play at the top level and in any cup finals. So for lads like him and the hundreds of others in the Blue Square League it would be the highlight of their careers getting to Wembley.

Would probably be the highlight of their career playing at Eastlands/Old Trafford/Villa Park/Emirates though?

True but you know what I mean. Wembley is the pinnacle of English football and to play there is still many players' dream and is an achievement in itself to play there.

Exactly - I'd rather play at a sold-out near sold out venue than a half empty Wembley. I'd say the same for the FA Trophy and FA Vase. I think players like Hearn would still relish the opportunity to play at another ground in the same game. I also think they should revert to Football League play-offs taking place in ascending league order to maintain interest in Leagues 1 and 2.

Do they employ the same staff as GTFC for press releases

Last years Play off final was between Luton And AFC Wimbledon IIRC.
maybe in fututre see which teams make the final and then choose a suitable venue, In this case The Emerates would have been ideal I would have thought

Doesn't wembley have to have so many games played there each season just to pay the bill though, I'm sure they still make a tidy profit off 18 thousand people, especially with the price of food etc there.
But I agree, It should be played at a club ground.

I'm sure you'd have arrange the venue early doors. I imagine it costs arsenal a fortune opening up and running the emirates just as Wembley does, two werks or so before doesn't really help them.
The fact is the champions league rule is another pointless one. Why does it need to be left unaffected for 14 days? Absolute bollox. It doesn't take them long to convert advertising boards etc. another rule which sees money dictate.
The BSP bit won't affect us but we'll still have to at OT which is where I assume they'll play it as we will be in the league 2 playoff...

Surely this will be a case of UEFA enforcing this so that it gives the groundsman 14 days to prepare the best possible playing surface, with no risk of it being churned up in between?

Why would we churn it up anymore than the teams in the champions league?
According to them all lower league teams play big boot which requires very little pitch, lol.

Any event on a muddy pitch would cause more damage than playing on a 'regular' pitch. I can only assume that they are aware of potential weather complications coming into play and so if the pitch is churned up a week before it may be difficult to flatten out properly, hence 14 days. Only a guess mind, I wouldnt quote me on that
