We had a thread similar to this a long time ago but what words do we use around the Grimsby/Cleethorpes area that nobody else does.

The reason I ask is that before the game on Saturday at Alfrerton I met up with a few Exeter City fans I know and one of them was relating a story to me and used a word that I had never heard of before and they were all dumbfounded when I had to ask what it meant and that I'd never heard it before in my life.

Whether it's just my lack of vocabulary and you will all have heard of this word I don't know but the word he used was "smitching".

So, do any of you know the meaning of this word. (It's nothing rude mind).

Not that one but it is the 2nd one down.

Quoted Text
2.      smitch

That little bit of smoke that comes from a candlewick after you blow out the flame on a candle.
The librarian will not allow candles in the library as the smitch might set off the smoke detectors.

He was telling me they had to evacuate Wetherspoon on New Years Eve just because of a bit of "smitching".

I can honestly say that I have never heard that expression before.

A "Crabby hatch do"               A party at which there would be females present who might pass on something crabby. The kind of party you'd go to before you were 30!

No attempt at ethical or social seduction can eradicate from my heart a deep burning hatred of the Tory party. So far as I'm concerned they're lower than vermin. Aneurin Bevan.

I didn't know that till I went to uni in Sheff & they didn't know wtf I was on about. They said oh you mean chuddy? I said dunno, what's chuddy?

Apart from that I don't think there's anything else perculiar to us. Tiggy maybe? What about pagging?

When I first moved down South I used to get a bit of stick for saying some of the things I was used to saying when I lived in Grimsby. Spoggy brought much hilarity to my mates down here, as did twagging and togga. I noticed at Alfreton they served chip cobs. In Grimsby it's obviously a chip bun or buttie but ask for a bun down here you get looked at like you've just waved a turd under their nose. You either have to say 'ban' or bap. I hate asking for either.

I heard someone say that they got into a pagga once, he was a Geordie. I had no idea what he was on about but it means fight apparently.

You fill up my senses,
Like a barrel of Tetley's,
Like a packet of Woodbine,
Like a good pinch of snuff,
Like a night out in Cleethorpes,
Like a greasy chip butty,
O, Super Black and Whites,
Come fill me again
Na na naa naa naa naaaa TOWN!!
Na na naa naa na na naaaa
Na na naa naa na naaa naaa
Na na naa naa naa naaaaaaa!!!!!

In Scotland spoggy is chuddy. One armed bandits are puggies. Brilliant word.

Do you get tattie scones down there yet?
