It is my sad duty to announce that my father Mick Crampin (known on these forums as theicenian) passed away suddenly on the morning of Friday July 8th.
An official notice will appear in the Evening Telegraph later in the week.

I am truly saddened by this news. My sincere condolences to your family. Mick was a lovely, genuine man. He introduced himself to me a couple of years ago whilst I was collecting money for Help 4 Heroes. He was very generous, respectful, highly regarded and respected on this site.

Very, very sad news. RIP Icey.

RIP the most regular, and one of the most courteous and interesting posters on the Fishy. He will be missed. Condolensces to the family. If there is a specific charity that he was associated with, or close to his heart I'm sure there are plenty of Fishy members who would be glad to contribute to a collection in his memory.

I echo that. My sympathies go to his family. He was always a font of knowledge and of great opinion. When I say that this board will be a lesser place without him it is no understatement. I never knew him other than on his posts here but it is still a great shock. I'm sure many will agree when I say we have lost a great friend.

Wow. Horrible news. RIP. Deepest sympathies.

He was only here posting away the night before! Didn't always agree with his views on here but he seemed about as passionate as it came about the club and a loyal fan of the club. As mentioned, lost one of our own.

Shocked by this.

Bloody Hell, I am well and truly shocked after reading this thread.

I have always respected Icys insight and always loved reading his posts, Mainly putting people straight and probably only one of a few that used his common sense, he will be extremely missed on this forum by me and I'm sure by everyone else, he seemed a top bloke very Knowledgeable and a great servant to GTFC of which his love for the Mariners, brought us to meet on this forum and although I have never met Mick I will always remember him from this forum, very sad news Indeed, condolences to his family, RIP ICEY x

A font of knowledge, and droll wit in the extreme always made his posts stand out from the rest. No doubt he gained a lot out of his later life by being able to contribute to the Fishy. How about a special section dedicated to the man?

Jesus that  is awful, I was only discussing goalkeepers of past etc on this site on the Thursday evening with
him,  even though i didn't know him personally i always respected his knowledge and posts, sometimes in agreement , sometimes not in total agreement, this site will be the  much the worse for his absence.
My thoughts are for his family and all i can say is RIP Icenian, a GTFC man for decades.

This is a great loss, Icey was a poster you could rely on for a well thought out and well written post and for a knowledge going back decades. What I liked about him too was that he wasn't afraid to admit if he was wrong and that's a rare quality especially on a football forum.

RIP - condolences to the family and the Mariners have lost a genuine good 'un.

Didn't know the man personally, but felt we were on the same wavelength about nearly all things. I feel that if I had met him it certainly wouldn't have felt like meeting a stranger! Truly hope it was painless and I'm sure his energy will live on long after his passing. Stunned; as Icey was such a fixture of my daily life without realising it, and I'm fighting back the tears.

Condolences to his family and all who were close him.

Immensely saddened by the news - my condolences to his family & many friends.

I didn't know Icey personally, but I knew from reading his witty and educated posts that I would have liked the gentleman a lot.
The Fishy has lost a class act.

He passed away with optimism in his heart for the forthcoming season, which is as it should be. RIP, Sir.

WHS - never met the gentlemen but always enjoyed his posts - could we re-name the non football section as the icey posts?

My God! This is truly dreadful news. Like most others on here I never met Icey and I must confess didn't know his name was Michael. Like most people on here I respected his opinions and the even handedness contained in ALL of his posts.

This board will be infinitely poorer for his passing.

My thoughts are with the whole family..particularly Icenian senior and Leicsmariner.

Rest in Peace fella!

Rob: We need a fitting tribute...perhaps name the board after him for a period of mourning?

Shocking, awful news. As with many, I never met the bloke. He sounded like a true gent and a pure Mariner. Young Mariners should look up to this fella.
Will be extremely missed, I think we should have some sort of page in his memory.
RIP Michael.

Woah did that come as a shock reading that. Did not expect that when I clicked on this thread.

RIP icey and thoughts are with your friends & family. I never met the man but he was always a gentleman in posting on here, never resorting to name-calling when disagreed with or anything like that.

Hope you can get a good view up there to see Town climb back up the leagues (actually, try and pull a few strings if you can).

RIP. UTM. Tommy.

Shocked. Really shocked.

I'd echo the comments of most other people. Words that spring to mind when thinking of Icey: gentleman, knowledgeable, level-headed, warm-hearted, witty, loyal supporter. A big loss to this board.

Sorry to hear of yours and your family's loss Leicmariner. Sincere condolences.

Completely shocked, stunned can't believe it in the slightest. Could always rely on his knowledge and wit to bring the standard of any post up, he will be truely missed on this board, RIP Icey one of the Fishys greatest and can never be replaced

The man ended on 11,167 posts on the fishy no one else is close to him Rob is it possible to make it when you reach this number of post that you become Icey instead of a drink?

RIP ICEY

Very sad news.

Probably the most trusted individual to ever grace the fishy and one of best humoured.
A fountain of knowledge and wisdom, a top notch debator, just a special individual.

The football doesn't seem so important now but I hope there's a special GTFC seat reserved for him up there.

RIP icey, you'll be missed but never forgotten.

Very sad. He will be sorely missed on here and it will be a long time before anyone posts as many messages as he did.

The Mariners will have another supporter in the ether, and I'd like to think he'll be keeping an eye on the Fishy from the afterlife.

Must admit that came as an absolutely shocking piece of news and am very sorry, not because I knew him as an individual which I suppose most didn't, but because all of that knowledge/wit/humour etc has gone with this sad passing and it can't ever be replaced.

The main thing I'll remember about this chap is that his contributions were always pretty much, well, let's say educated, to say the least.

There aren't too many you can add that to in respect to football forums the world over and from that point of view I'm sure that most will miss his valuable, respected and very numerous views on the game.

I never knew him other than on his posts here but it is still a great shock. I'm sure many will agree when I say we have lost a great friend.

RIP Icey, truly a great poster and came across a total gentleman, condolences to the Icenian clan. The fishy simply won't be the same, we've lost a brilliant poster, and a fountain of knowledge.
Thanks for the text by the way. Just arrived home from weekend in York to this tragic news. He will be sadly missed by everyone. R.I.P. Icey

Such sad news.  My condolences to Icey's family and friends.

You know, Icey's posts represents all that could be good about the internet.  When I first found the Fishy (quite by accident), it was Icey's intelligent, witty, and insightful posts that really stood out for me and made me want to keep coming back.  Living in southern California and being so far removed from Gy makes it pretty tough to be a Town fan, but in a way Icey's posts helped strengthen my bond with GTFC.

Thanks for everything, Icey, and RIP.  You've got the best seat in the house now, and I hope Town gives you plenty to smile about.

Truly shocked to just find out about this...just saw a post on the GO which led me here

I never met Icey but his contribution to this forum has been immense and he will be missed so much by so many....

His love of the club was so clear for all to see and whilst the passing of any Mariner is sad the loss of a true fan is always hard to take

My thoughts especially go to Icey senior...their father and son bond has also been really evident and so makes this news even sadder

And to you too Leicmariner...losing your father is devastating but you can take great comfort in knowing your dad has left a great impression on so many

RIP

thank you for all the lovely comments.  The fishy was a massive part of his life and the reason I joined (I could check he was ok) I will always have an enduring memory of him sat in his chair using 2 fingers to type checking the dictionary. Me, my brother and sister would often be interrupted from watching tv as he chuckled at something written or called you all maniacs.

RIP the most regular, and one of the most courteous and interesting posters on the Fishy. He will be missed. Condolensces to the family. If there is a specific charity that he was associated with, or close to his heart I'm sure there are plenty of Fishy members who would be glad to contribute to a collection in his memory.

Shocking. Just got back from a weekend away, logged onto the Fishy and almost subconsciously expected to be met by at least a couple of Icy posts. How very sad. Always enjoyed his gentle, almost nod and a wink poking of fun at the younger fans who knew little of the older days of GTFC.
This place will never be quite the same.

My favourite Icenian moment was when he revealed to the world that he was in the habit of nipping out the back of the Main Stand during games for a 'half-time homosexual'. He claimed it was all the fault of the swear filter...

I think the remarkable thing about him was that, despite being the most prolific poster on the forum, I never once recall him getting into any of the juvenile, name-calling spats that sadly are part and parcel of daily life on the Fishy. Whenever anyone did try to goad him (and this was a rare event in itself), he simply rose above it. He had class. There's not  many like him around, and now there's one less. RIP.

I don't think a more reasoned or level headed poster has ever graced these boards, always enjoyed his tales of icenian senior and the family too. My best wishes to you all.

I'd like to echo Fishoutofwaters post too. I didn't know Icey either and in the last year or so of posting on here i've instantly recognised his knowledge and respectability. Whether you agree with him or not, you respect his opinion and he rarely if ever lost his cool in response. From my short time in comparison to his 11000 odd, i know two things for sure.

A. He knew his Grimsby, both town and club.

And

B. This forum has lost one of the foundations on which it prides itself.

RIP Icey, condolences to your family, my thoughts are with you Leicmariner and Icey senior.

Bless.

I was there, the day Bradley Wood scored a 35 yarder!

From the black and white striped shirts
To the fish in the sea
You'll hear us singing
Coz we are Grimsby.

You won't hear us crying
But you'll hear us shout
Coz we are the Grimsby
And this is our chant.......... Grimsby! Grimsby! Grimsby!

I knew Icy when i was growing up in my early teens, in fact i knew the whole family for a while. I can only say that Mick was the same in life as he was on here, well respected, well educated, well manered and well liked by all. My thoughts are with his wife and children at this time. It really is a sad loss to all.

It is my sad duty to announce that my father Mick Crampin (known on these forums as theicenian) passed away suddenly on the morning of Friday July 8th.
An official notice will appear in the Evening Telegraph later in the week.

That is so sad. He was always entertaining, reasoned and a joy to read. He was a gentleman on here and he will be much missed.

I don't come on the fishy as much as i used to and to be honest when I opened this thread I was so shocked I felt sick.  Icey and I used to have some good old chats in private messages about family etc.  I went through a very difficult period in my life a couple of years ago and Icey used to regularly message me to see how my family and I were doing, such a true gentleman.  I last caught up with him on May 6th, I have just read the message he sent me, he knew I was due to get married and he actually asked me if the lucky man was Biccys haha.

totally gutted but so pleased we had our chats, will miss them.

RIP Icey xx

Very shocked to just learn of this.

Always recognisable through your clarity of thought, knowledge and wit - you will be greatly missed by all on TheFishy.

It is a bit of a shocker isn't it. One day he's his usual self. The next day he's gone. Amazing how someone you've never met can leave a hole.

RIP the most regular, and one of the most courteous and interesting posters on the Fishy. He will be missed. Condolensces to the family. If there is a specific charity that he was associated with, or close to his heart I'm sure there are plenty of Fishy members who would be glad to contribute to a collection in his memory.

As a mark of respect i believe the mainstand will be observing a season of silence in memory of Icey

Heaven will be filled with the sound of rustling humbug wrappers forever more.

He came to mind as i picked up my mints for this afternoons game, the little things.
