We have done the all time best eleven  to death on a regular basis and have also done the worst  x1.

What about a team of players who never really made anyone's all time best team but who you had a soft spot for, someone who you liked as a player but where perhaps never top quality.

In goal I am not talking about Batch, Beasant or Coyne and up front forget Drinkell, Whymark, Mendonca.

Here's my thoughts;

Ian Turner
John Stone
Richard Smith
Stuart Gray
Tony Gallimore
Mike Brolly
Lew Chatterley
Mike Hickman
Alan Gauden
Phil Hubbard
Steve Livingstone

And lined em up in a modern formation (but then I suppose if you put em in their rightful places the young uns would laugh).  No room for Keith Jobling though. An early version of Grovesy.

Kinda liked Menno Willems even though he was dissapointing and only turned up in a couple of games apart from that was missing most games. I think i just like to think since Bonnetti we'll discover some great foreign talent willing to play for us. Never happens though

its ace this even though people are just sat with the ultimate edition of the history of gtfc sat in front of them just quoting players out of it. because lets be honest hardly any of us remember/have witnessed any of em play and are just chucking any old legends name in and some not so legendary judging by the above. before anyone jumps down my throat i obviously know that there are some that have been there and seen it and are making a genuine educated opinion.

Especially with Jimmy Pennington on the other wing, or occasionally Dougie Collins. Well remember Brian's hat trick against Scunny in 1967 when we gubbed them 7-1, Ray Clemence in goal!

No attempt at ethical or social seduction can eradicate from my heart a deep burning hatred of the Tory party. So far as I'm concerned they're lower than vermin. Aneurin Bevan.

An alternative then - Freddy Jones. Two footed flier.

For midfield - Ron Foster or Billy Rudd

I don't get this thread, I just realised. I thought it was players who were'nt great but that you had a soft spot for. Hence my choice of the rather obscure Neil Robinson. But some of the best Town players ever are in this now, so I'll just watch how it develops and try to grasp it later.

Yep with you there Icey, Foster was a bit like Martin Peters, 10 years ahead of his time.

Erm one question what is Clifton doing in the back four?

When he first came he was in midfield but he had a knee injury in his seventh or eighth game and was out for months. I think it was Tom Johnson who converted him to centre half.

Fielding was quite quick and a decent goalscorer.

I quite liked O'Kelly and nearly put him in but Ron Stockin gets the vote because nobody knows him!

But centre half in those days was mid field not back four cos we didn't have a back four.

Bob Mitchell definitely.  He was probably world class compared to last year's lot.

Thats right about Clifton, ( I went baby sitting for him with my girlfriend once )

I remember Ron Stockin,

The forward line was    Great  SCOTT,  Good EVANS,  RAFFERTY'S ,  STOCKIN , FELL,

how about this variation
                                                                   WAINMAN

SMITH (RICHARD OR DAVE)         HANDYSIDE           TODD          KEVIN  JOBLING

                                   STAURT CAMPBELL           SANTOS       CALDICOTT      OSTER

JLAA  ANDY LIDDELL  (CONTROVERSIAL FRONT 2!)

SUBS - IAN KNIGHT, 'EDDIE THE EAGLE'SAUNDERS, PAUL AGNEW, MIKE CZUCZMAN, KEVIN KILMORE

Centre backs are too good surely? Jonny Oster was quality for us too and I wouldn't have wanted to see Richard Smith at right back.

Gary Henshaw - came through the juniors with Lund, Wilkinson, Paul Agnew and Andy Moore. Very underrated and unlucky to be around when Lyons came and ruined him by stopping him from playing football. Went to Bolton I think.

Always remember Andy Peake scoring a screamer on the first Friday night game id ever attended v Carlisle it just went about an inch off the ground like a missile from when it left his boot and gave the keeper no chance.Think he was our record signing for about a week then we signed Jimmy Gilligan lol

I also considered Eddie the Eagle! Birdtables , Cunnington and especially Cumming featured in many all time x1's though Stick Neil Robinson in the midfield ?
