Pretty sure I just saw Tharme warming up, might have been mistaken thought. If not in the 18 pressume it’s due to distance and games over last week - rather cover for both full backs that have had a lot of minutes through their legs than a CB when essentially you’re subbing a CB because of injury or trying to combat an Ariel assault late on - Cass can cover in a three, so just might be options of the bench.

Perhaps Tharme just felt a tweak the other week? They would be doubly careful with him as he's coming back after surgery and we've been doing OK in defence over the past few ganes, relatively speaking.
Good to see Obikwu as an option on the bench a bit of size abs pace later on could be helpful. Hopefully, they'll be chasing the game and we can bring him on for the counter.

I can see him as well. He's certainly down there warming up

Pyke replaces Wilson on the bench. If not an injury, I can only assume Pyke is slightly more defensive and Obikwu is preferred to Wilson up top?

Don't understand how he got so far behind our defence without being offside. Great block from Cass, but then we still somehow conceded from a tight angle with three players on the goalline. Weird.

Harvey Rodgers is a total disgrace. Never want to see him in a town shirt ever again. Gifts them an assist for a third and then gets booked twice for dissent in fifteen seconds because he's a complete moron.

Wait, Rodgers was sent off?
Passed the ball directly to their winger for the goal then went screaming his head off at the ref about a non existent foul which got him booked. As he's got about three brain cells he didn't see this as an opportunity to shut up and continued gobbing off and the ref rightly gave him a second booking in the space of about ten seconds. One of the stupidest things I've ever seen on a football pitch and he's let his entire team down.

Dont be a dik, he was motm Tuesday
I'm not usually one to single out players but I've seen enough of him over a season and a half to know that he's not good enough. He can defend the space in front of him well enough but he's terrible at everything else. I haven't seen a player with less situational awareness in a long time. One good performance in 20 doesn't change that for me.

It's not one disasterous performance though is it? He's arguably been better this season but he's consistently the weakest link in a defence that leaks at least 2 goals virtually every game. Whether he felt like he got a push in the back or not for their 3rd, to get himself sent off for two bookings is a disgrace

Nope, miles off the required standard. We've got one of the worst defensive records in the league and he's demonstrated he can only cope at this level in a back three. Needs binning off asap because he's a terminal loser.

Goal 1 at least 3 yards offside 5 mins later Donny won a corner with their player again well offside. Still playing excrement came out half asleep Rose and Green working hard but we're slower to the ball and to react to everything else. Our midfield and left side being shredded and Barrington being absolute excrement.

I can't believe the difference in town from Gillingham to today.
Hardly looked in trouble all night to looking if we are going to concede another every time Donny have the ball.

Some of the fantastic centre backs town have had over the years and idiots are defending Rodgers, just shows how low the standard has dropped, this should be his last outing for town

We've been terrible to a man. Worse even than the Barrow game where we at least perked up a bit after the first 30 minutes. We've got caught in possession more times today than in the past 3 or 4 games combined and the passing has been terrible.
I thought the first might have been just about onside, but that linesman has been so excrement, it probably was off.
Poor from Barrington for the second, but we had plenty of defenders back, all static, and it was a tap in. Shambolic clearance for the third and idiocy from Rodgers. Are we allowed to fine players the days, because that deserved a fine. What was he complaining about? Was he nudged? Still no excuse for that which was basically a pass. Unfortunately for us, they've stuck in almost every chance they got.
As an indication of how bad we were, I think the only time that Green touched the ball in the first 25 minutes was from restarts. If he doesn't get sent off in the second half, I'd be surprised.
I think I'd look to bring Warren on as Cass hasn't got near their left-sided players - too slow. Get JDS off as he's barely been involved either. Donny are nippy around the pitch and JDS isn't so he's not going to get any space.
Hopefully, we can keep it tight and not concede too many more.

It's time to stick together in the trenches lads. This game has gone. Work hard and together. Try and keep it to three and ten men. Move on to next week.

Oscillating from utterly abysmal and an enormous liability to appearing competent and useful is an improvement from last season, but it's not 'one disastrous performance'. He has had several already in between quiet games and good games. So I can understand why people would still think we have to do much better than him if we are to challenge.

Why do they have to look at themselves? It was a excrement bit of defending that he tried to make out was a foul from there player, I've watched live and on the TV and no way was it a foul. He wants a 2 month wages fine and long ban.

| In his three stints as Grimsby Town manager spanning over 10 years the club was never relegated and he also guided them to three promotions. Only 14 managers have reached 1,000 matches in charge of a Football League team by 1998 and Buckley is one of them. GOD |

I repeat myself, same as I have said for last 3 to 4 weeks. There will be some calling for artells head tonight when last week he was the second coming of the lord…. All I want is a side that is a consistent team within league 2. At the moment you just can’t read it.. they win they lose badly, consistent league 2 club and then maybe just maybe we can look at playoffs next season.. Grimsby still look a squad that can be relegated.. I have not swayed from this position and todays performance just adds credence to my comments.. utm

I'm afraid we are still very much "a work in progress", 2 steps forward and one step back.
Our final ball and first touch have been appalling, I feel sorry for Rose, even when he wins the flick-on's, nobody is running beyond him in support. We are very one dimensional and pose very little threat going forward. Defensively we are still prone to aberrations and always look open to making mistakes.
Finally, what is our problem with playing in front of a big passionate home crowd ? Why does it always seem to produce a sh1t performance ?
Hey-Ho, onwards and upwards.

The biggest humiliation is really on the manager. McCann embarrassed him tactically last season and he’s rubbed his face in the cr*p today. Must be pi$$ing his sides at just how easy it is against Grimsby.

To get booked for dissent, followed immediately by a second booking for dissent is absolutely brain dead. Game over at that point pretty much anyway, but it's still a stupid thing to do.
I think we would have all taken 6/9 points over the last 7 days.

Unfortunately when you support Town this is what it’s like. We have good nights like Tuesday but know that there will always be bad days like today not far away. If you didn’t have the bad days, the good days wouldn’t feel as good as they do. It’s the hope that kills you but I’m sure we will all carry on supporting town no matter what.

Or maybe it was the fault of the players who were all well off their game? I know you don't like Artell, but I don't think you can blame him for a lot that happened today. It's the same players who did so well on Tuesday and it was their mistakes which cost us. A little pride restored in the second half where we actually defended competently, so that's something.

Because of all this negative Sh1t on here, I can hardly be ar5ed to comment any more or even read what is posted on here. But, we’ve got 6 points out of 9 in a week where the players have played AWAY at the mostly northern and southern teams in our league. Maybe the fixtures are somewhat a bit daft and it was just 1 game too many? The players, and management, should maybe be given some slack. It’s a bump in the road. Disappointing yes. Disastrous hardly.

Jesus christ it didn't take long for everyone to turn uglier than they already are. We've just come off the back of 3 wins in a row and if you look at the losses 4 or of 5 are currently in the promotion places or playoffs. Bad day at the office but as several people have said in previous threads they way Artell plays we are liable to a spanking every now and again. We need to take it on the chin, dust ourselves off and get behind the lads.

The thing is, a lot of posters expect us to win every game, that isn't going to happen. There are teams that are better than us, and teams that are worse than us. Hopefully we will beat the worse teams and maybe pick up a few points off the better ones, it's swings and roundabouts and I for sure would have taken 6 points from these last available 9, considering the distances we had to travel for those fixtures. UTM!

The usual crazy overreaction on here after a defeat. Think I’ve got a full house on fishy bingo. No passion - tick, should never play for us again - tick, should be fined two weeks wages - tick, public apology needed - tick, young player with a handful of league starts singled out - tick, can’t play in front of a big crowd - tick. I would have hit the jackpot but I’ve not seen anyone talk about a big drop in season ticket sales for next season yet.
In reality a poor performance against a good team for a early kick off after two long away trips. We move on.

Have to agree with this. That was the worst 30 seconds I think I've ever seen a Town player have. That includes the likes of Tommy Forecast and the rest of the useless idiots we've had this century. That was absolutely braindead and I hope his teammates and management are laying in to him for it.

I think you missed out the inverted commas around the word 'Fans'. I wasn't looking forward to the second half, but wasn't going to leave and I enjoyed shouting at the officials, so that's something.

No complaints on result. We looked tired.
Officials hopeless, Rodgers a disgrace for getting himself sent off
So you have got complaints?

End of the day we are supposed to be supporters but for far too many in the modern world that only applies when we are winning. If you missed the second half I would say that you missed out on an outstanding half from Evan Khouri who was absolutely fantastic and just wish Cam had finished off that chance he created. Shocking first half, although first goal looked well offside and Rose should have equalised pretty quickly, where pretty much all eleven players were off their game. Whether this was down to the travel and two tough away games who knows but we were all over the place. Individual errors led to two of their goals but in all honesty they were much slicker in possession and quicker closing us down so we just didn’t function. Applaud the ten who battled bravely second half but we were helped by Donny taking their foot of the gas nevertheless nobody gave up which was a real positive in my eyes.

It's not because we lost. Its the way we lost, gave the game away in the first half, We may have been tired after 2 long trips but not that early in the game. And as for the sending off. Well

MCcann did get it spot on , I think with us it's realising when to just sit in and learning maybe yesterday 5 at the back would have been better but with our new found confidence it looked like we wanted to really go after them which didn't go to plan .Against the better teams we just need to be cuter we did it so well at Gillingham but not so much against Donny & Notts . We have a string of games coming up were we should go and attack because we have on paper at least better players than them I think whether we can adapt in game /against the better opposition will determine whether we are in the play-off mix or just hover around mid table for me . I think it's just one to write off it's only worth 3 points , the Salford game next week is bigger imo , show we can bounce back once more against a team that are probably at a lower/more even level to us .

But, we’ve got 6 points out of 9 in a week where the players have played AWAY at the mostly northern and southern teams in our league. Maybe the fixtures are somewhat a bit daft and it was just 1 game too many?
I don't want to come off sounding like it was the one single contributing factor as that does a disservice to Donny and McCann who got it absolutely spot on tactically from the off and punished us. But...that run of fixtures is more than a bit daft to me when Donny have had back to back home matches and then only had to go 50 miles or whatever it is to BP. Feels like we've been slightly diddled there in all honestly.

I think Waterfall's brain fart 2 or 3 minutes of madness from a few seasons ago trumps it. Was it Maidenhead? Own goal, sent off and gave away a pen to put us 2-0 down.

Doncaster had done their homework all three of their goals came from attacks against our left side they identified our weaknesses from the start.

I did think about that one but I can forgive a last ditch tackle going badly. Can’t forgive two yellows in 20 seconds for gobbing off. Brain dead and should know better.

I'm not sure it's as clear cut as that. I don't really blame Hume too much for the first - he got close to the winger from a throw, but the guy managed to get half a yard and out through a good ball. The rest of the defence were caught too square and static and it was more their fault than his. The goal that came from our cocked up throw in was partially Hume's fault, as it wasn't a great throw, but it was ultimately McEachran who cocked up by trying to let the ball run and allowed himself to be tackled by Clifton. And, of course, there was the stupid mistake by Rodgers. Although their goals came from mistakes down our left, I think we looked just as vulnerable down our right, but got away with it when they attacked down that side!

McAtee had one in the promotion season where he went flying in, can’t remember who & where but in the movie he said he just wanted to nail the player as he’d kicked one of ours. Rodgers was pretty dumb yesterday, but cut him some slack he was good versus Bromley & Gillingham, scored the winner at Carlisle. We’ve all seen Town players losing it over the years, my personal favourite is the Gali & Pennant .

To be honest, I just knew this was going to happen. I just cant seem to ever believe we're going to turn the corner after all the misery we've been served up over the last 25 years. Let's see how we bounce back now, experience tells me this will be the start of a mini bad run

Haha yeah, that absolutely cracked me up on the doc that line from McAtee, especially as Hurst defended him at the time. Was at Dagenham. The match when the manbaby in the away end started a fight.

I think that's all on Hume. Thrown at a height and trajectory that's impossible to control, don't think McEachran had a choice but to try and let it run. As said on another thread, Hume's throws are atrociously bad. Don't think this result was anything about McCann getting one over on Artell at all, or even targeting any weaknesses of ours. Absolutely no way on earth that Donny set up with the intent of our whole defence standing flat footed for the first, our left winger falling over for the second and our centre-back marking thin air or the farce of a throw-in and then the aforementioned centre-back passing to their attacker in space. McCann didn't out think or out manoeuvre Artell, it's just that our players made stupid errors.
