Not sure if it's been mentioned in here but a highlight of last night's match for me was McJannet's diving header in the first half that stopped a Gills attacker getting a free chance yards from goal. Absolutely superb defending.
It was one of those where we've seen the ball end up in the net off the defender on many an occasion so he needed to get it exactly right. He really has been good since his arrival. What was he doing playing in the Irish League?

In the last three games:-
1 we held out to win when down to ten men. 2 we came back from going a goal down, twice, to win an away game with a kid in goal. 3 we beat the league leaders on their own patch.
That is pretty special especially when you consider we have three key squad members missing.

I think it's fair to say any "concerns" over our fitness have been addressed this week. A proper 90 minute performance tonight, after a hell of a lot of travelling in just a few days. Get in there town!
I agree, great post!

Thing is Boonsy, yes there will be calls for Artell to go as soon as we lose a couple, but they won’t come from the same posters who are currently expressing elation with the current success. They will come from the negatively inclined posters who are being kept quiet because there’s nothing to complain about.
So the accusation of fickleness is just wrong, unless you think the forum itself is capable of some sort of aggregated emotion, rather than an outlet for individuals to express their opinions.

It's a real mystery isn't it? The Irish League is quite a well trodden path for clubs in the English system. Definitely something that you can confidently attribute to Joe Hutchinson owing to his previous favourings of the Irish League when at Lincoln. But by all accounts McJannet was at the top of all the numbers so I can't for the life of me fail to see how he's gone under the radar. More importantly he just looks bloody good! It's impossible not to watch him and think he looks a proper footballer. I can only imagine that Derry valued him highly enough to price teams out of buying him, sure when we signed him their chairman basically said that McJannet had told them he wouldn't renew his deal so they cashed in whilst they could. Still odd to think we would be the only ones aware/willing to take a punt on him.

I've kept quiet as I understood you couldn't read Ruuger and I didn't want to put any pressure on you. How are the lessons going with the big letter books?

How was Artell’s reading of the last two games?

I normally keep away from the tactical stuff after games. There’s a couple of reasons why. First I don’t understand the technical bits. Second I’ve been stood at the urinals too often at half time and someone next to me has been enthusiastically talking about false nines whilst pissing on my shoes. And that’s how I often feel about managers interviews after matches- lots of words but my socks are wet.
Last night a couple of bits made sense. The goal was similar to the one on Saturday. Build up on the left inside our own half, three lads getting into starting positions sixty yards away on the right hand side, play inside through the middle of midfield then a good through ball. Inverted wing backs, overloads I see you. Almost like an American football play in some respects. That must take a lot of practice during the week and not a little trust and confidence from the players.
Then this whole ‘good out of possession’ nonsense. Always seemed like a clutching at straws find the positive kind of thing. But no. There it was last night. You wanna go down the wings? Cool we can deal with that. Through the middle? Nah, not gonna work. Long ball? Fine, no probs. And if that failed I’d just look for Harvey ‘Baresi’ Rodgers. Twenty seconds later he’d be heading it, clearing it, or blocking it. I thought he was superb.
So Mr Artell you’ve got my attention on the mind bit of the ‘Hearts and Minds’ you mentioned after the game.
As for the ‘heart’ bit I remember ‘Last Christmas’ belting out at Oxford last year whilst we all tried to keep warm. Like a snog outside the Pier with a girl you kind’a knew from school and had always kind’a fancied it was fun but felt a bit superficial and premature (!).
A few more performances like that in the next few months and the line ‘I gave it to someone special’ could have a bit more feeling to it. I’ll be singing it for Harvey but it could equally go for Cameron, Kieran, Donovan or George. David, Evan, or Doug.
Getting my songs mixed up now but still giddy after last night.

Can't really add to all that has been said but I think Greeny needs a special mention and a lot of credit for how much he has improved. Also DA, in recognising what he had to offer. The general consensus on here last season and during the summer was that Greeny was at best a bit part squad player and not good enough for League football. Obviously DA thought different and got Greeny to apply himself to a new role and what are revelation he has been.
