Been very apparent last few games the impact the subs have had. They’ve all come on and contributed, got into pace of the game straight away. Gardner was also superb last night in closing down, but capable of countering quickly. He’s going to be a real asset in time.

One of Hursts qualities was getting a squad to gel, and play for him. Artell appears to have this nailed also. Not always easy as a manager keeping everyone happy, and also not easy for a player on bench often.

Must also be said, one player was omitted from squad last night - yet was one of first to post a congratulatory message- and again, Artell made a point in his post match comments on all of them being fantastic, including Matty Carson.

Funny - I started typing earlier then changed my mind - "Pyke impressed me in his cameo...."

I was pleasantly surprised how fit he looked considering his last competitive action was 23rd March and the last time he managed more than 20 minutes was Boxing Day!

But the lad did exactly what was asked of him in that right wing role and made himself a nuisance, was more than one occasion where I thought his hassling of defenders was going to create an opening.

Ha ha ha. As I said numerous times. One week elation next week Artell is useless!!! That they way with this forum at the moment. So fickle. I say again. The best we can hope for is to be considered a consistent league two club. That’s no bad aspiration mind you. From here we. An look at play offs and promotion however at the moment we need to consolidate in this division. I’ll give it a couple of weeks and there will be more shouts than ever for Artells resignation!! Good win tonight so credit where credits is due but let’s keep feet firmly on the ground. UTM

Good god, you're a fun sponge and also talk a load of bollox too.

I’ve been one to question the fitness levels as we looked like we where blowing after 70 minutes in games, the last 2 wins have firmly shut me up.

I’m no expert but the players do look in better condition overall, Green looks leaner & Khouri has clearly filled out and I’d agree Pyke looked ready both physically & in his application.

I also really like the way Artell is trusting Cam Gardner, I know we haven’t got much choice at the moment but it says a lot about the manager & the player, would love to see Cam on the scoresheet soon.

Thing is Boonsy, yes there will be calls for Artell to go as soon as we lose a couple, but they won’t come from the same posters who are currently expressing elation with the current success. They will come from the negatively inclined posters who are being kept quiet because there’s nothing to complain about.

So the accusation of fickleness is just wrong, unless you think the forum itself is capable of some sort of aggregated emotion, rather than an outlet for individuals to express their opinions.

How refreshing to read balanced comments on the Gills forum.  Of course they are critical of the ref as most forums seem to be, but a good few are saying how well we played - the complete away performance.

They seem to say take it on the chin and move on which is the best policy. Contrast to the Bradford forum who all thought we were a poor side and are now calling for yet another managerial change!

Yeah, earlier in the season you could argue Gardner was getting a chance because there was no-one else.

Last night he came on, in a wide attacking position, ahead of 2 players who have far more experience than him in that position (Ainley and Wilson) with Pyke coming on the other flank at the same time.

I think there's a decent argument that Artell was holding back on Wilson because he wanted to replace Rose soon after but he could have easily gone Wilson on first and then moved him more centrally when Rose came off.  He could have easily gone with Ainley too and no-one would have questioned that.

Equally so we're not that far removed from a point when we would have brought a full-back on in a wide position (Warren was available) to defend that lead.  We did, of course, drop a midfielder to bring Tharme into a back 3 for the final stages but so pleasing to see that it didn't mean we retreated deeper.  We still held a fairly high line and and continued to press them back.

An interesting thought! The hive mind of the Fishy subliminally implanting us all with a collective feeling of despair after one too many losses.

Not sure if it's been mentioned in here but a highlight of last night's match for me was McJannet's diving header in the first half that stopped a Gills attacker getting a free chance yards from goal. Absolutely superb defending.
