Just looking at Artell's time in Crewe (His first-ever senior managerial position)

16/17 Took over In January, finished the season 17th
17/18 Finished 15th
18/19 Finished 12th
19/20 Took Crewe Up, He was top of the league when Covid stopped play and only didn't keep the position because of points per game handing it to Sindon instead.
21/22 Took Crewe to 12th their highest league position since 2005 when they were in the Championship
22/23 Was sacked after all his assets had finally been sold off over the course of two seasons and he had been forced to try and pick up players on the cheap (this is the view of a couple of Crewe supporting mates).

If Artell can do the same again I'd be pretty happy. He's kept us up, next is steady improvement.

I don't mind Roy Keane making £60,000 a week. I was making the same when I was playing. The only difference was I was printing my own - Mickey Thomas

The area you are trying to protect at corners is the goal - Chris Kamara

I once said Gazza's IQ was less than his shirt number and he asked me: What's an IQ? - George Best

What happy clappers?

Said in another post, there aren’t any fans to my knowledge that are Artell disciples or happy clappers or however you want to coin it , I don’t think Town has happy clapper fans at all, we are measured in how quick we lose our excrement, and right now that’s those who are panicking over friendlies and those who will make judgement over the next few weeks once the transfer window shuts.

Artell hasn’t been popular since Day 1 and I don’t think managing to keep is up really put any varnish on him. He’ll be up against it from the first minute this season, he’s done nothing to earn any loyalty or favour from the fanbase, and the jury will be out on him unless we end up flying out the blocks and maintaining good form.

He doesn’t have the luxury of what other managers have had in pre
-season where there have been proportions of the fan base who are strongly in support of his methods.

He has no goodwill because everybody could see that the style he was trying to implement didn't work as we got hammered on a regular basis.

I think ,with us ,he has gone straight to the season of trying to pick up players, on the cheap .Without going through that promotion malarkey
