Worth a thread of its own. On behalf of anyone reasonable associated with GTFC, I apologise for the behaviour of our majority shareholder and manager at the fans forum. Right or wrongs of what when on aside, that sort of behaviour is embarrassing. If only those at the club were just as outraged at female fans having their bras searched...

Agreed, this was more than likely set up, Fenty complaining of bullying then opened the floodgates for Matt to get dogs abuse from some daft bint and a stupid Yorkie who has been going to Town games in a dogs watch.

That gobshite bloke in the audience, the snotty woman at the front who just agreed with everything the board said, and mr Fenty should be ashamed of the way they have acted towards Matt, and to an extent Slade as well. Disgusting

Equally as embarrassing as the "supporter" who told him he's been a sh1t journalist for 15 years, the only sensible thing said all night was that we all need to pull together if we are to move on.

A complete setup. Odd how the pro-Fenny gobshites began in unison, tearing into Dean as a cue for Fenny to stand and give his sermon to all present. Apologies to Matt, part of my love for my club has died this last fortnight, what a despicable bullying bunch of amateurs. Ashamed.

Believe me it was not "The Fans". It was three individuals all sat together who had been sneering and voicing disapproval at any questions remotely critical of the board. It was embarrassing to hear and see, together with Fenty's and Slade’s reaction. Matt didn’t stand a chance sat where he was. Credit to Philip Day who backed Matt and appeared to be the only board member present (with the exception of the Trust representative) who was calm, collected and professional.

Can’t stop thinking that this whole sorry episode was a complete set up. It was like a pack of dogs rounding on an individual. If that’s not bullying, then I don’t know what is? Disgracefull!

Fair play to Matt Dean tonight. At least he came across professional and well mannered unlike some people of the board. The fans forum tonight was probably intended to bring the club together but at this momeant in time I don't think I've seen it ever so divided. The first part of the heeling process in my opinion would be for Mr Slade and Mr Fenty to make a public apology to Matt Dean for the way he was targeted tonight. It's not a dig at any one at the club, it's just a common principle of having some decency and respect for someone doing there job.

It wasn't handled well at all and should've been cleared up at the start with a simple apology from both sides although to be fair Matt was only doing his job and the club appear to have the pr skills of a gnat. Who was the guy in the audience calling him excrement ,was watching on you tube and that wasn't good.

And the 'woman'. You know that you can't have a civilised debate with someone when they start either shouting or swearing and that's what they both resorted to tonight. Very strategically placed as well...

I have just watched the last 20 minutes or so. How could such an innocuous story, or alleged story get them so rattled? Especially Slade - what on earth was that all about. I am not holding it against Slade as I hope it was a one off and still believe he is our best hope in the immediate future.
As for Fenty, he seems to be really suffering. I hope he can find someone to take the club on before too long, not that I am holding my breath.

noticed Dean still didn't offer an apology he could of nipped it in the bud if he'd just stood up and offered his apologies to the manager board and fans. I don't blame Slade one bit for having a go I know I would have done exactly the same, end of the day no matter what Dean was told the cold hard facts of the matter are that his tweet absolutely wrong, fake news.

I don't care if what Matt Dean tweeted was right or wrong, but for Slade to start shouting at a local journalist, and recounting what an ex-manager said about him (IMO unfairly) in not being trustworthy, across a panel at a fans forum, was ridiculous.

Did you not listen to Matt explaining that he had been in an interview with the director to his left. Fenty didn't know about the interview and as Marley wouldn't reveal his contact who wouldn't join the board because they were scared of abuse is ok but Matt has to reveal his source. Double standards from the club and those who support this bullying regime.

Well, my guess is that the BBC wont be so keen in the future to let us use their equipment to broadcast fans forums.
Towards the end it got to the state of car crash television, Matt looked a little shell shocked and would have been better to have just turned off the live feed rather than all embarrassing themselves.
Tonight was set out in all good intentions but the only thing we will remember is the farce it became.

Its called having some passion in the heat of the moment and its great to see in these snowflake times that we live in. Dean will learn from this he carries a lot of responsibility in his position any top journo would make sure they had their facts correct, that tweet could of been very damaging to the team/management.

Those three people near the front who rounded on Matt Dean were embarrassing. The woman also covered herself in glory by telling another fan she was talking out of her bottom. I thought by and large the ‘anti-Febtinistas’ were not vile, but those 3 were.

Dean didn't even reveal his source intentionally anyway just goes to show that he still has a lot to learn, as a good journo would never reveal their source intentionally or unintentionally.

No it's not. It's called being aggressive over something so insignificant. A professional person would have kept it together and calmly said "it didn't help in our preparations and was certainly a distraction. But our lads are focused on what goes on, on the football pitch and don't take any notice of speculation. Matt got it wrong this time, but we're only human and from time to time, people do get it wrong." End of discussion. Club's statement at the time re. Woodhouse: 'It has come to GTFC's attention that there has been speculation that a first team coach is set to join the football club. The club can confirm that this is not the case, no discussions have taken place and the manager at this moment has no intention of adding to his coaching staff.' *END OF STATEMENT*

That last 20minutes just about summed the club up at the moment.
|
| In his three stints as Grimsby Town manager spanning over 10 years the club was never relegated and he also guided them to three promotions. Only 14 managers have reached 1,000 matches in charge of a Football League team by 1998 and Buckley is one of them. GOD |

Absolutely cringeworthy. That sort of utter stupidity is why the board get half the abuse they do. They talk about sticking together but just do the complete opposite and make things worse every single time.

I’ve just watched the entire excrement-show back. What an absolute mess our club is in that we have to call a “fans forum” and have the panel wait 2.5 (long, long) hours to wade in on a local journalist who has clearly had some duff (or was it?) information. The club’s main broadcast partner too. The ’other’ board members on show tonight barring Mr Wood are an absolute disgrace.
Mr Day going on about facts - except his facts were skewed as the FL bent the rules on how a vote on the Checkatrade could be passed.
Mr Marley - I thought my accountant talked shite. Christ almighty - do one - will yer - you self important get?
It’s almost enough to make you wish we did have a questionable foreign owner really.

Journalists work in a constantly evolving workplace, they're very good at smoothing out inevitable mistakes and half-truths that come about in their environment. Matt Dean and the BBC staff working with him will be horrified at what happened last night, to watch an entire board of business professionals melt down over a Tweet while so many much more important issues were glossed over and ignored. Fenty, Slade and co were the ones sat at the table with issues to address, not Matt Dean. Classic diversion tactics from an under performing, under siege board.

Apologies to Matt Dean on behalf of our club. The tweet would have been forgotten about within a couple of days had it not been for the embarassing response. One thing tonight has made me realise is it's a case of 'sack the board' rather than just 'Fenty out.'

Didn't watch the forum but I'd imagine that Fenty and Co have worked themselves up into a bit of a bunker mentality. To be fair, this is for some good reason as the amount of flak heading their way from these forums over the past month (and, I'd imagine, on social media?) has been substantial.
The problem is that this has led to the ridiculous overreaction to Matt's original report in Woodhouse. A simple denial without any snark would have done the job but the unnecessary dig against him has led to an escalation and they've then apparently doubled-down on the idiocy last night.
Surprised Slade was daft enough to have a go, truth be told, as he's been around the block a few times and should have known better. Obviously the bunker mentality in effect.
For Fenty, I've long said he should just keep his mouth shut as much as possible as he's got a distinct knack of shoving both feet in their and whipping up controversy when it is simply not necessary. Chairmen (even non-Chairmen) should preferably be seen but not heard. I'd imagine he's running the club as he runs his business which is clearly not going to work.

Basically just reinforces what many people think about the board and how the club is run, they and slade in particular were a disgrace towards matt dean....no class whatsoever. Philip day seems to be the one board member to have any class or sense imo

How wrong was Matt Dean though? I find it very peculiar in what Curtis Woodhouse tweeted and what Bridlington Towns chairman said for there to be nothing in it.

This. It was dragged up last night as nothing more than a diversion, a way for Fenty and his posse to ride out of town on a high, with some sort of victory. So we have the format for future forums set in place...next time I suggest we spend 10 minutes pushing and pushing Russel Slade to explain why he ditched us at Cardiff, getting angry at him as we yell at him about 'Trust' and leving him in no doubt we're questioning his very professionalism. A real shame as he'd had a good night. We then spend 10 minutes pushing John Fenty on why he (and others) recruited Neil Woods (and others) on the back of umpteen games without a win, getting angry and flustered with him not over a little Tweet but for plummetting this club into the pits of non-League. There's more, much more that I could level at this board but I'm too angry about last nights embarrassing conclusion. John, just run the club and get someone else for spokesman to the fans. Russel, just run the team and don't get involved in the background noise of Fenty vs the Media. Marley, just leave and give the position to someone with some basic etiquette, vision and understanding of Grimsby Town fans.

Just watched the last 30 minutes this morning, Well the accountant Marley ? has got a big chip on his shoulder, Fenty feels unloved and will never speak to me or Swin again, Matt Dean should have got hisfactsright before going to print but maybe he did check with the solicitor who knows ? So it ended in a farce and all we have learnt is nobody wants to invest. Fenty wants out the only person who spoke a lot of sense from the club was Slade and the Trust bloke. It would have been better if we could have seen the fans there seemed to be a lot of Steve's there

Have a look at the video if you can. It is much worse than could be described on here. It basically tells you all you need to know about how the club is run. A mistake/clanger/or poor reporting from a decent local journalist has been completely over exaggerated so the board (and indeed the manager) could vent their spleen. I cannot imagine BBC Radio Humberside will take it lying down either; to humiliate one of their employees in such a public way will make them very sore, and of course the club will get further bad publicity just when it could do without it. The problem of course stems from the owner, whose fellow board members seem as aggressive /defensive as he is. It doesn't fill me with confidence that these are the people talking to the council and others about the new stadium project. He said a few times he wants out. Let us hope that happens sooner than we thought possible as it must be apparent to everyone who follows the Mariners that we will never progress properly under the current board. Even if by chance we got a new stadium - can anyone imagine this board overseeing it?

Out of all this what was achieved, JF and his bunch proved they do not have the elequence or tact of Bill Carr . The supporters asked the right questions and were fobbed off which is usually the case. Mr Slade, who was supposed to be an educated man , has shown his colours regarding Matt Dean , what a finger wagging t**t.

I had to turn off last night as I couldn't bear it.. it was uncomfortable viewing. However hearing about the Matt Dean situation, I just checked it out on YouTube and can't believe what I was seeing. I thought us being relegated to non-league was a big low point, but I feel frankly like we've gone even lower than ever before right now. He maintained his dignity and professionalism in the face of completely unacceptable circumstances. Maybe Matt should have apologised over the whole Woodhouse situation - but it's been blown so massively out of proportion by the club, that it's difficult to understand what's happening. And seriously who were those two "fans" laying into him at the forum? Does anyone actually know them? I'm not trying to suggest / instigate a witch-hunt, god knows, but for them to be so vocal and completely against the general tide of opinion is highly dubious.

Precisely. A simple denial and clarification of the situation by the club was all that was needed. Why are they acting like this?!

I think Slade got a bit too high rate, and heated, but his point was a valid point IMO. When the players read social media aswell, and then wonder if the manager is about to get sacked, it causes unnecessary worry and tension, however he dealt with it in the wrong way last night

Good points. The much-maligned Fishy representatives conducted themsleves superbly. The pro-Fentyites at the end were noisy yobs. Bullies, even. Make the next forum invite-only, invite the well behaved Fishy bunch and bar the gobshites at the end from any more forums.

You can't seriously be saying that if Woodhouse came in as a first team coach he'd be replacing Slade? Realistically Slade was never going to get the chop. Fentys made a rod for his own back with his 4 year 138k a year contract.

Walking out on your club after a dismal play off display causes unnecessary worry and tension. We're expected to let that one go, well the deal's off. Slade totally out of order, until I see him get so irate over Stevenage's treatment of the fans and other ongoing concerns it stays that way.

I could not believe how it disintegrated into a slanging match. Fenty mainly to blame and the 3 idiots.
I agree that Fenty has lost the plot, feels got at, and sought to initiate a diversion at the end for his stored up anger. The Woodhouse issue was of little consequence in the big scheme of things.
I took some notes towards the end: There was an awful comment from one idiot in the audience "This club would be be nothing without that man "Fenty". Did the slide down the divisions and 6 years in NL slip their memory?
This and other abusive comments did seem planned and orchestrated. The shouted abuse all erupted at the same time and had a common (nasty) thread. I could not believe how the night descended so quickly into farce.
Fenty did say (twice) that he would not communicate with 2 vile posters on the Fishy. Do 2 negatives make a positive? He felt very strongly and angrily about a very small issue that is easily dealt with.
Fenty did say that he is sick of being a punchbag. No doubt after training for his 10 rounds with the fans.
Fenty also said that quite frankly, he is fed up - anyone can have the club.
I am pleased from the sound it that the potential takeover by USA owners last year did not come to fruition. I didn't like their plan to only have 100% ownership, with no fan share ownership or representation. Looks like they were in it for the wrong reasons.
Fenty woffled a lot about investment and possible change of club ownership. Potential investment is more attractive with a new stadium, which is no surprise. The accountant woffled on for a lot lot longer. Some of it was new information about the processes gone through to try and secure new investment. He did have a patronising tone to the fans and if challenged on any point.
Appointing a manager is a lottery. This was said a few times. No other Board would say this. Later it was said that all Board managers study dossiers on potential new managers Any decision to appoint or sack a manager is a Board decision. There is a rigourous interview process. Fenty did make an interesting comment that "You have to believe their story" (what potential managers say at interview). Well no! Probe for evidence and challenge assumptions and comments.
Bignott was "head and shoulders" above other applicants. This was said at the time. What went wrong with due diligence then for it to go so wrong so soon? (Links back to believing their story. Why is the Club so naive?).
In summarising at the end, and standing up, Fenty hoped that everyone could now pull together after the Forum. He then scored an own goal with an unprofessional and public attack on Matt Dean. "Head in hands.............
The club has not moved on generally or specifically. Nothing changes does it? We still have very poor PR and an amateur approach to running the club. The small, irrelevant matters are given a disproportionate time and energy by the club. The big issues are not discussed or fudged. I think that Fenty has a self-destruct gene as far as this Club is concerned and managed. He confuses material points with issues of no consequence.

I understand that a few weeks ago he upset Slade with negative questions after a game.
Maybe the sting was the Woodhouse story was given to him by a club 'source/official'. They then call him out to discredit him?
Just wouldnt be surprised IF the above scenario is close to the truth.
I would add I just cant believe ( despite constant proof) that the club can continually shoot themselves in the foot but also cannot seem to see they do nothing wrong??

Grimsby Telegraph have very kindly written a transcript of the whole Matt Dean/Curtis Woodhouse fiasco. Might be worth copying down for future reference, just cuts short from quoting the weirdos shouting abuse at Matt Dean: http://www.grimsbytelegraph.co.uk/sport/angry-scenes-grimsby-town-fans-848326
This is annoying and more pathetic headline grabbing by the ET. 2 fans out of around 100 present had a go at MD and they had zero cause. JF and RS might have and they got there chance everyone else in the room was left embarrassed.

I can't believe anyone actually thinks Woodhouse coming in as a first team coach would mean Slade getting the sack?!?!?! A first team Coach would be just that, an additional member of staff to assist in Coaching the first team. The only instance a Manager would have a similar title is at a Club that has a "Director of Football" or "Technical Director", where the Manager in that type of set-up often has the title "Head Coach".

Well I was sat near the back so I wasn`t aware of anything prior but this just reared up out of nowhere? If they were relations of John I don`t recall him at anytime getting abuse last night or anything even the questions were reasonable but can`t say I have seen either before at a game unlike most of the other 100 or so.

Slade was talking balderdash (or at least exaggerating massively); destabilising the dressing room? Some of those players have played at high levels for big clubs; does he expect us to believe that every single twitter transfer rumour is treated as fact? Surely players take anything like this with huge pinches of salt?
That idiot in the audience was too - I didn't read the tweet as Woodhouse taking Slade's job, I'm not sure anyone did, did they? (Edit: just realised Tommy's posted the same thing)
As said above, a topic needlessly thrown in at the end by Fenty to make himself feel good.

There was an element of a snarling pack about the treatment of Matt Dean. Once JF made his point and then RS, the two people near the front waded in with vile abuse of Dean and other supporters who voiced a different opinion. Hitherto they’d been quiet (I was sat about two rows behind them) apart from the bloke shouting out earlier that ‘this club would be nothing without John Fenty’.
But despite the pack mentality I don’t think there’s any evidence of a pre-meditated plan. I’ve seen this sort of thing happen at meetings before (including being the pack’s prey). It’s just a couple of low status animals emboldened by the alpha-male’s lead.
If you’d planned this you’d orchestrate it in such a way that you come off looking better not worse.
Whilst I disagree with the way Dean was treated on the night, I do think that journalists in the course of their legitimate role sometimes say things without regard to the consequences on the people concerned. I can understand Slade’s annoyance but he should be old enough and wise enough to have handled himself better.
As for the two people shouting abuse, are they posters on here? If so it’d be interesting to hear why you think it’s OK to speak like that in a public meeting that is broadcast on the internet and what sort of impression you think it created of our club, our fans and Grimsby generally.

The outburst aimed at Matt Dean by the guy in the audience was embarrasing to say the least. Sounded like a bully and his language was too colourful for such an event. Very disappointing to listen to something like that as it sounded like a free for all

Please do not confuse this with myself or 1ML. I can assure you 100% it was neither of us and we were just as appalled as you.

I thought up until the above incident things were going OK, Slade did his presentation regarding defending from set pieces etc which was informative to all but the Slade out brigade IMO.
JF answered his questions that were put to him without too much aggression from either the person who asked the question, or the audience, that`s not to say that all was rosy but it was a forum not a love in
Most of the evening went reasonable well with applause for most of the answers given, until someone brought up the Matt fake news incident and the excrement hit the fan, as someone has already mentioned it could have all been discussed and settled at the top table before the forum started.

In fact it was JF who chose to raise the Curtis Woodhouse affair and took the opportunity to have a go at Matt Dean in a public arena, backed up by Russell Slade and a couple of loudmouths in the audience. Almost as if it had been planned. Surely that could not have been the case could it? I thought the issue had died a death a couple of weeks ago and that we had moved on, apparently not.

Maybe not planned but like all politicians JF saw the opportunity to try and discredit Matt saw his opportunity and took, Slade and a few morons in the audience jumped on the bandwagon, the woman who told Matt he has been a sh1t journo for 15 years represented the level they where thinking at. On reflection if you took the last 30 mins of last nights meeting as a snap shot of GTFC you would think we where a tin pot pub side, small town and small time - completely tin pot.

Just re-watched and Matt Dean appeared to want to bring things to a close, JF invited Marley to speak about investors and appeared to lead that into a pre-planned intervention by JF and his cohort.

But apparently Matt had met with Philip Day last week and agreed that they had put the issue to bed, JF did't even know about the meeting, The conspiracy theorists among us could easily put Mr Day and "reliable source" in the same pub car park at the same time.

Newark it clearly wasn’t a case of ‘well done Fenty’. If he’d rebutted MD’s tweet firmly but professionally this issue would have died a death.
Instead, because of his inability to issue a well thought out statement, and unwillingness to listen to those who pointed out it wasn’t the fact of the rebuttal but the manner in which he did it, and then the hijacking of the forum to have a go at Dean, the issue just drags on to the detriment of the club’s image.

I can confirm that you are barking up the wrong tree as work commitments deemed Squarkus or I was in attendance and further more nothing to do with the uncalled for calling of MD from the audience.

"John" was not a bit bothered about the audience calling out Matt Dean though, was he? He could have apologised and asked the audience members to treat the journalist with respect, but chose to make it a thousand times worse by joining in.

No LCL. He didn’t cover himself with glory did he. In his position, and given his comments earlier on abuse and bullying, he ought to know better. Definitely an own goal.
Maybe with a bit of reflection he’ll put out an olive branch.

I watched the youtube coverage and he definitely apologised in some way to Matt late on. Did you hear Matt doing the same either last night or before? I didn't!

I watched as much as I could stomach of last night's incident in the office of the newspaper I work for this morning. In journalism, you know you're going to get criticism for doing your job sometimes. It goes with the territory. But what happened last night, combined with the earlier inflammatory statements issued by the club, went way beyond any reasonable definition of legitimate criticism. It amounted, in my view, to little more than a public character assassination that, far from damaging its intended target, has only served to damage the club.
I admire Matt Dean for the restraint and dignity he showed in the face of wholly unprofessional and unnecessary behaviour on the part of senior officials of our club. Had I been sat where he was, I would have made it very clear exactly what I thought of their conduct. The key point to remember is that, whoever was right or wrong, is you don't wash your dirty linen in public. As has already been said, all the club needed to do was to issue a short statement denying the original story and that would have ended the issue right there. If any further conversations then needed to take place between the club and the BBC, they should have taken place behind closed doors, NOT in a public setting like that.
To those of you who say Mr Dean got what he deserved for, allegedly, getting his facts wrong, I simply say this - the aggression of the denial and the behaviour we saw last night is often, in my experience, an indication that the original story was actually far more accurate than we know. Given that Mr Fenty apparently didn't know there had been a meeting between the club and the BBC to try to sort this out before last night's events, one is inclined to ask what else he doesn't know about the running of the club and who is actually running the club day to day.
Of course, these events follow a run of PR disasters for the club ranging from the inexplicable failure to defend supporters in the wake of the Football League's whitewash to the wholly inept portrayal of fans as "bullies" over the bastardised trophy (I will not speak its name). If there is anyone within the club who is responsible for media relations, then I'd like to see their qualifications because there is no recent evidence of them doing their job properly. One thing I've learnt over the years is that good PR people have the ability to both build positive relationships with journalists and, when necessary, save their paymasters from themselves. If only we had that.

At the risk of going over the same old ground. BOTH PARTIES are to blame. Matt got a sensitive issue wrong. But the club statement in response was a woeful piece of PR. Thus leading to a playground style spat in which NO-ONE came out with dignity intact. I tried very hard last night (as did others) to make John understand that it wasn’t the rebuttal. It was the tone and the wording. But John is in full siege mode. Therefore, anything less than 100% backing is seen as an attack. I personally would have liked to hear some kind of apology from Matt, but clearly that wasn’t forthcoming either. I can say that I did see him and John shake hands at the end. That was after the shenanigans I might add.
I think it needs a line drawing under it and both parties need to move on.

I have been in the kind of position that Mr Dean is in now myself and there is no way I would apologise for a story if I believed it to be accurate, as I presume he does. If the club then wants to go further, then there are proper complaints procedures they can, and should, pursue.

Agreed. I agree with many of the sentiments about the whole situation. Maybe Matt Dean could have apologised for breaking an incorrect story (but even then I'm not really convinced he really should have had to) purely in the interests of keeping the peace but regardless of whether his story was right or wrong, he clearly believed it to be true. My personal issue with this whole situation is with the extremely childish and confrontational tone of the 'press releases' by the club. Honestly even now, all these days later, I'm still in disbelief that they felt it was appropriate to put those out into the public domain. A professionally worded statement from the club dismissing the reports would have had far more impact than what look like the ramblings of an angry person who hasn't even sat and thought about what they wanted to write - just rattled straight out in a rage, and hit the submit button. A public rebuttal of the story by the club, maybe even a public request for an apology for a factually incorrect report from Matt - albeit one that doesn't look like it was written by someone with poor PR skills - or at the very least a public request for a retraction of the story, and take it behind closed doors for further discussion if necessary through official channels. Publicly lambasting a journalist who is trying to do a job, who clearly is passionate about the work, and clearly published the story with the right intentions is just mind boggling. I mean jesus - I'm willing to wager the majority of us know next to nothing about journalism or PR - yet it seems so blinding obvious how this sort of stuff SHOULD be handled.

Now then my mushy mate , Steve,John, Mark, Paul talking hear, I am none of them by the way, JF quotes people like you that he will have no more dialogue with , well that is all of us you tw-t, he did chip in every now and then and let us know more inside information that we debate about, you, you cu-nt send him under ground and quite clearly you wasn't there last night and watched 30 minutes this morning you fcuking dim whit, Slade got fooking annoyed as he didn't think he had a job, as Burnsy on Humberside said we have breaking news from Matt Dean (fact), Curtis Woodhouse has been appointed first team coach, listen to what Slade said for intercourse sake, it affected the players and the coaching staff, Fentys fault again Norfolk Pete.
Mark, think once, think twice then think again before you post, take heed from your brothers wisdom.

To be fair he's outnumbered. Everybody needs to calm down after last night's fracas. We all need to take deep breaths, chill out for a couple of days and enjoy the weekend knowing we can't lose!

Something needs to happen for it to calm down Rob, we've had many calls to get behind the club and yet time and time again when we get the feel good factor and build a glorious sandcastle along comes Fenty and does or says something to smash that castle back into the sand. Matt Dean was hung drawn and quartered last night after an almost tearful Fenty claiming he was being bullied / pillored and was sick to the back teeth only to be hypocritical in a heinous way.

Outnumbered? Wtf? Seems the Fenty clan are tainting everything I once loved about my club. Get a grip, he might not be very outnumbered for too long if you let his behaviour become the new standard for those who are in a minority simply because they're shi* Stirrers.

Anyone else catch RH Sportstalk earlier this evening?
Matt Dean said he went to see Town train and get interviews as they usually do on the Thursday before the weekend and he was refused an interview with both Slade and the players
All seems rather petty to me....Slade instead gave his Luton pre-match thoughts to the Telegraph correspondent which RH aired, but to blank MD?? Meh!!

Those at the club have a high opinion of themselves. Much ado about nothing IMO, we're only a tinpot 4th division outfit. Matt will more likely be around long after RS and JF have gone. Keep asking questions Matt, RH is independent and must not become another mouthpiece of the club.

The really sad thing is that you can imagine them cooking up a plot to humiliate a bloke just trying to do his job. Of course there will be a few on here trying to vindicate the club.

Slades fake anger at Matt Dean has now been over shadowed by his pettiness, bridges needs to rebuilt and someones given an arsonist a box of matches in a fireworks factory, The need for a PR specialist at the forever embarrassing faux pas coming out of BP this is yet another example.

Slade asked Fenty, 'John what's on your Christmas list?'. 'Nothing much Russ. I just want a break from being endlessly pilloried. Doesn't matter what I do, every week I get it. I'm always being nominated for TOTW. Won't someone give me a break.'
So Russ decided to give John an early Christmas present.

flipping ridiculous. Who the intercourse is this SLO intercourse that they’ve employed and a week later this happens??
flipping joke of a club. Absolutely flipping frustratingly excrement. Like how can fans pull together, raise 100k, stick through the club through non league (not to mention the local press not disregarding us like a flipping Boston) and then have suchhhhh a bad pr record with absolutely everyone once back in the league.
flipping shambles.

Deprived of local media coverage on (presumably) the last Look North before the Boxing Day fixture which is traditionally watched by a larger than average attendance. An attendance which is of course swelled by returning exiles and floating support. The slowest of claps for ‘the club’ and Slade for this one.

The lack of class and tact from the GTFC people involved in this would be quite staggering if we hadn't seen it so so many times before it`s all so unnecessary. What possible good could come of this GTFC ? It`s childish it`s vindictive it`s why a lot of people want to see a change at the top and sadly a certain someone will be sat there thinking he has the moral high ground in this spat. A fool and his money!

What makes it so sad is that it's so f***ing predictable.

Considering Slade and Fenty at the end of the fans forum when they were all queuing up to have pops at Matt they did both talk about putting all this behind them and moving on... obviously that hasn't happened, how pathetic from Slade

Slade is the one that is always talking about “everyone being together” well this doesn’t paint a great picture of that does it. Also short changes the fans as many look out for these interviews on a weekly basis.
Regarding journo’s Slade needs to take note of what the Mafia say “keep your friends close and your enemies even closer” he’s been around long enough to know that.

I just feel disappointed with those responsible.RH gives the fans of GTFC better coverage than any other media outlet be it local or national I can think of? I think most people could understand the frustrations of RS and to a lesser degree JF with a story being made out of nothing .Let`s be honest this was a nothing story even if it had been true as in nobody was that effin bothered now over a Month later it`s still a hot topic. A hot topic about nothing other than GTFC can`t seem to keep a lid on things and deal with it behind closed doors to avoid this cringe worthy merry go round on social media. Anyway back to the football......

That's the bunker mentality set in. Us versus them when the media really aren't the enemy. Not the first time it's happened and it won't be the last.
You expect it from Fenty but you'd think Slade has been around the block a few times and wouldn't act in this manner. The likes of Ferguson and Mourinho can just about get away with it. Manager of a mid-table 4th division team? Not so much.

Aye, I was about to mention Ferguson. The differences that RS seems to have forgotten: * Ferguson won loads of stuff * He wasn't managing a club that actually needs to keep about 3 local journalists onside!
To piss the chance of free publicity on the BBC away just to score a point in the petty twat league is classic GTFC.

Ferguson had a whole documentary made about him with hidden cameras and involving a huge production team. I can't believe it's even being compared with a speculative tweet.

Sack the clever piece of dog .... Obviously Matt Dean had been granted permission from the top to do interviews etc and this second rater then decides to be an obnoxious twt-but when you have got mates in high places you are allowed to do whatever you want. He could spend more of his time learning how to be a decent coach. A couple of wins and the fame's gone to his head. Stick to what you THINK you are good at Slade and leave the upsetting of the fans to other people who obviously get a childish kick out of it

Hang on a minute no.1 can we even believe what this amateur reporter is tweeting? He's now got form for BS let's not forget. And no.2 if Slade has told him to do one then good on Slade, Dean has not even had the decency to apologise for the trouble HE caused but crying on social media to just cause a bit of hysteria amongst the sensitive fans we have is urine poor journalism once again.

I don't get this club, we're doing okay on the pitch and things look fairly promising. Yet off the pitch, the club are trying to divide the fans completely and are almost hell bent on causing trouble.
Amateur, incompetent flipping idiots who are tarnishing what is a fairly good month or so on the pitch.

In that case I guess we should disregard everything you've ever posted. Fenty was on here a few weeks ago and suggested we all should pull together and move on! Doesn't this reopening of the spat with Matt Dean do exactly the opposite of that?

What colour is the sky up there on Planet Minus1000 ? Matt Dean can aoplogise when; Rusell Slade apologises for walking out on us after the Play-Offs John Fenty apologises for taking us down, down and down again into non-League. See the sh*t storm brewing up now? Because Slade can't keep his trap shut.

The club are making a mess of this. I think there was some truth in what Matt was tweeting in first place. The suggestion out of Brid is that Woodhouse thought he was moving on.
If Russell Slade had allowed him to come and watch training why would he and the players think he'd been sacked for Woodhouse to replace him?
Our club deals in alternative facts and fake news, you only have to look at what the club put out about the SLO appointment and compare it with Kristine's statement to question the accuracy of the information coming from the club.

FACT Matt Dean made a false report on a twitter! This false report caused mayhem and he still stubbornly has not even apologised why are you in denial? To try and compare Slade and Fenty with total inaccuracies is very childish, why not try and side with the club you supposedly support and not some discredited reporter who works for a biased organisation. In a previous post you call Matt Dean out for being 'amateur' and now 'discredited'. I am certain Matt is much more qualified to do the job he is employed in than both Fenty and Slade in their positions. I suppose you'd argue Fenty has never been 'discredited' in any way...

I'll give you a fact. John Fenty said that he wanted everyone to move on - in response to this the Trust and the club put on a Unity day - since then, we have had this further childish spat with one of only two media outlets that are connected to us, together with managing to cause the resignation of the only person who truly connected the club to the fans (SLO Kristine). Move on my bottom. I support the team that the manager puts on the pitch in spite of Fred Karno's circus going on in the background.

What caused the most mayhem? Matt Deans tweet or the subsequent way the club handled their response? Others in this thread have already mentioned much better ways this could have been dealt with. The club has been and continue to be very amateurish about how they've handled this.

Maybe we should talk about the contradictory statements made by both Fenty and Slade then. After Matt's first tweet the club put this out... 'At the request of Curtis, he was welcomed to Cheapside to witness a First Team training session to gain an insight and experience to help progress his own career.' The club then went further and did an video interview with Slade 3 days later where Slade says, "Curtis text me and said that he wanted to come here and have a little chat" So the FACT is that twice the club have said Curtis was INVITED to the club (at his own request), so that he could gain further insight to progress his own coaching skills. The players would of known that was the reason he was there. I find it hard to believe that the players then wouldn't of laughed off the tweet at the time, that's if they where even aware at the time as they would of been in training. For Fenty and Slade to the lie, to excuse their abuse of Matt in the way they did at the forum was an utter disgrace. It should also be noted that Matt had met with Phil in the days leading up to the forum to put the matter to bed, so Matt was of the opinion that it was then all water under the bridge. Then Fenty said in the interview a few days after the forum that Slade (and the players thought) he was being sacked. Which of course contradicts the clubs official statement, and the statement from RS that Curtis had asked if he could come along to observe training. So when you talk about inaccuracies and childishness, perhaps you want to remind yourself of the FACTS. The clubs continuing behaviour on this matter is an embarrassment. And Slade is just showing himself to be a moody little girl.

Every club needs good PR but not at any cost. Social media has made a huge difference to the way reporters work. In effect anyone can now make the news without anyone else actually doing or saying anything. Is this not what Dean did? At best reported a misunderstanding as fact, at worst he put 2 and 2 and made 22. Neither was he prepared to either admit his error or apologise. As far as Dean is concerned being a reporter of high standing makes him better than the people he reports on.
As far as I can see as a completely unbiased observer, the club (ie JF & RS) made a mistake in the first place by not making the Woodhouse situation crystal clear to all the participants from the off. JF then made catastrophic error number 2 by allowing Dean to chair the fans’ meeting and to take the moral high ground there and make the club look foolish.
Dean is not a friend of the club. Whatever he says about being a supporter can be taken with a large pinch of the proverbial. Dean is a friend of Dean. All reporters are like that because they have to be. None are to be trusted especially these days when they can start a story anonymously and then report on it.
The club is definitely at fault too but, while it may be bad PR, it must be remembered that the club has no obligation to do any PR at all or make any announcements. It would be stupid to do it but that is a fact.
Someone like Dean makes his reputation and his living out out publishing what amounts to gossip and fact is not important to him. You have only to look at the fabrications on the sports pages of the tabloids and even some broadsheets to see what journalists aspire to today. Only the other day the Independent ran a fabrication about a player revolt at Norwich. I have nothing against Dean as a person, I don’t know him any more than I know JF, but I do know reporters and how they operate. The days of Roy Line, Charlie Eckberg and John Kirkby have gone and JF is very naive if he thinks the modern breed have the same sort of journalistic ethics.

I just don't know how you can side with the club over this incident. They are the only party out of this whole debacle to have come out looking badly. I mean, are you seriously suggesting that all those in the football club are so thin skinned that a simple piece of speculative journalism (which, honestly, I still have no complaints over frankly) has upset the apple cart so much, that they've closed ranks and are acting like pouty children who've been told they can't have any pudding before they finish their main meal? No one disputes that Matt Dean screwed up - but it's his job, as a journalist, to try and get the scoop on stories. Sometimes journalists get it wrong, and they get rebuked. But then the club even made a complete hash of that rebuke, and lost all credibility in the process. I can't even believe that it's come to this frankly, and for Matt Dean to continue to be ostracised by the club and the manager is pathetic. The club needs to grow up, and do it's job, and stop acting like spoiled brats. It's gone beyond embarrassment at this point.

All well & good BUT Slade put out a press release saying that he knew Woodhouse was coming and then said that he thought he was being sacked. It seems that there are one or two with very selective memories. If you want to go back slightly further, don't forget how Nigel Lowther was treated when he dared to ask about Slade's departure at his re-appointment press conference.

I’m not arguing with anyone over details. Everyone can bring their own set of facts to the table and as far as I can see RS and JF have not coverered themselves with glory OC. My point has nothing to do with that. It is simply this - there is no moral high ground in this spat. Several people appear to be delighted to have another stick with which to beat JF and fair enough if that is what floats their boat. But it isn’t mine and I suspect I am in the majority of supporters who couldn’t give a monkeys about the business. But I do say beware of believing anything a digitally based reporter like Dean says. It has about as much credence as a poster on the Fishy quoting a tweet from a player. Just look at what happened this time last year in the Bogle will he, won’t he saga and what happens every summer over transfer possibilities.

Two things - Matt Dean, as you say, is doing his job. JF asks everyone to move on, this after a meeting between Dean and Phil Day and Dean's public humiliation at the forum. Isn't that enough or did he really need Slade to stick the boot in?

What I really don't get is that if Slade invited Woodhouse and knew the full reason for him being there, which is what he said at the forum. How could he possibly be worried about his job, when the source is a dodgy tweet. ??
The whole thing doesn't make sense to me and a lot of other folk too.

Wasn't it Fenty who observed that when the team is doing well on the pitch then PR takes care of itself? Really John?
The list of intercourse ups gets longer by the day, what a shambles and now we can add Slade to Fenty in the idiot stakes

Dean is indeed doing his job and his job is to get himself up the ladder which he is doing. That is my point, he does not need defending. I honestly don’t know why you all keep on about the same stuff. It is minor, meaningless and pointless and in the bin. Just a Fenty bashing exercise and there is a load of better ammunition for that I am sure. Like civvy just said really. Anyway, it might keep people occupied during the Queen’s Speech.

Maybe it is minor, pointless etc. but I would be a lot more positive about the future of GTFC if its' hierarchy started to act in a more professional manner.

What we need is Curtis to come out and say what happened offically..and some proof if possible.... i cannot believe for one minute that he needed to come to Grimsby to observe training,, he has been round the block a few times, and he would not IF needed, come to a bottom div team to learn anything......except how to slip out the backdoor

No one is disputing he put out an incorrect story. That isn't the point. It hasn't BEEN the point since the start of this nonsense. Sometimes journalists get it wrong - it's the nature of the business. All the club needed to do was rebuke him in a normal way, that any other business / organisation would do with a well worded press release. Instead they resorted to petty name calling, and have taken this on as some kind of personal vendetta against the guy - and it makes them all look stupid.

Matt Dean may have jumped the gun a bit all Jurnos do, but what happened in that meeting with a couple of directors for Matt Dean to say in his next tweet that the move was blocked by the board. The meeting JF claimed at the fans forum he knew nothing about it and then say in the Nathan interview he forgot, the look on his face that night said more than he forgot.
Anyway, this latest faux pas is embarrassing because of Slades fake anger as the time line pointed out above and him turning away free advertising for the Christmas period.
You could say Marley's fake news of millionaires turning down joining Towns board because of the grief directors get when up to that point no one knew who Marley was. Amateurish is too good a word for some of the shenanigans that come out of BP.
If Fenty doesn't want to get beaten by sticks, he should clear the faux pas sticks up, by hiring professional PR and not using the deconstruction method which he seems to apply to most of the stuff he is involved with at BP.

Journalists reporting on rumours/information given is a stock in trade and they aren't always going to be right.
A sensible way of dealing with things would have been to just deny the report and then carry on as usual when nothing ever came of it. Instead, they are still pissing around in a petty manner and it has blown up out of all proportion.
Whether or not Matt was correct in tweeting the rumour is irrelevant in comparison to the childish way Fenty and Slade have acted since then.
This is something which should have been put to bed a couple of days after it all began yet now there's a new round of ill-feeling generated when we're on the back of a good run and coming up to some important matches over Christmas.
Stupid and childish from the club, though I wonder if it might not have been better for Matt to keep shtum on this occasion, taking a longer-term view about his relationship with those in charge of the club (though he's quite entitled to report the situation, of course).

Maybe Matt Dean could make a public apology which would give RS the chance to open his arms and give him a big hug, and everyone gets on with their lives. Is there a match tomorrow?

Several of us on here and at the forum said that Dean was wrong. The issue is the way it was handled by the club, in its first response, at the forum, and now with this latest idiocy. Had the club dealt with it professionally in the first place, the whole issue would have blown over. Matt Dean would be looking a bit less credible as a journalist and we'd all be able to 'move on'. Instead the leadership of the club continue to dig that hole even deeper.

,and then Slade can apologise for roasting him in the forum when he knew damn well in advance why Woodhouse was at Cheapside. Slade when well over the top with his angry trust comment and the snidey bit put in with previous managers warned him, all bullshitery.

If anyone on here or the players or Russell Slade thought that John Fenty was going to replace RS with Curtis Woodhouse whose managerial highlights are managing Sheffield FC and Goole Town in the Northern Premier League then they are complete and utter fuckwits.

The Club invited him to training, then Slade blanks him.
Either the "Club" don't talk to Slade so he doesn't know that MD will be present or they invite him down for the sole purpose to try to humiliate him.......again.

With how the club can't seem to get over this, I'm still not 100% convinced there wasn't anything in the story. I'm still also struggling to believe how Russell Slade or the players thought he'd lost his job if they knew why Woodhouse was at the training ground.
Either way, just get over it FFS. It wasn't a personal attack.

Weren’t the supportive fans at the forum friends of or extended members of the Fenty family? Hardly a conspiracy if that’s the case. It’s obvious.
I saw on the day it all kicked off that Talksport were saying they’d heard Woodhouse was supposed to be getting a job. Are they tinpot? It looks to me like there was at least some truth in it. Slade has since contradicted himself over it and this latest one looks like the dummies have come out again.
I will repeat that Humberside are award winning broadcasters. They are part of this country’s biggest broadcasting network. We really could do with floating supporters to get themselves to BP for money for a play-off push. Even just 50 extras who might have been inspired by a feature on Look North might be enough for a signing on bonus or something that tips the balance.

Not sure why Slade is getting his knickers in a twist to be honest, at the forum he said that he know Curtis was there as he was looking for tips after an interview or something similar. The story or non story comes out that Curtis is joining the coaching staff not taking Slade's job.......... Utter cobblers!

Many posters have missed, and continue to miss, the key point here, which is that none of us know whether the initial story was true or not. The fact that Mr Dean has not apologised tells me he still believes it to have been true. If that is the case, why the hell should he apologise? It is the club that should be apologising and they should have done it weeks ago. To allow this to continue to fester in such an infantile manner would be ridiculous at any time, let alone when we've actually had some decent results recently. Could our majority shareholder and manager please, for Christmas, just bloody grow up?

Hear hear. Steering away from any public comment would be better than the garbage that's come out of the boardroom lately.

There's two sides to this - first and foremost, the board seem obsessed with trying to control the media, printed, broadcast & social - it's not going to happen. The only ones who seem to tow the party line are the Telegraph who need GTFC content to sell the paper - well that will stop in due course anyway like most local newspapers. Secondly, I don't understand why any business owner/board would want to continue to rub its' customers up the wrong way. It doesn't matter whether it's 100, 1000 or 10000 - they are all GTFC fans who do or could spend money at the club and may potentially spend more if we were more successful/had a new stadium. Next time you make a call for unity or to move forward, make actions speak louder than words.

I keep seeing the word .. unity.... at this club, unity seems to come more from Mr Fenty... What he realy means is, you lot lay down and do as you are told... unlucky boy.. we do not work for you and we will not be bullied by you.. I personally think curtis was here either for a job. or to give Slade a kick up the behind and Fenty got sussed . If the latter was true, MD did slade a favour and alerted him to the true reason he was popping in to the club,,

I think JF is following the Michael O Leary (RyanAir) school of PR..... "We think they should pay €60 for being so stupid." "Do we carry rich people on our flights? Yes, I flew on one this morning and I'm very rich." "You're not getting a refund so f*ck off. We don't want to hear your sob stories. What part of 'no refund' don't you understand?" Maybe Marley should approach him, would fit in perfectly.

Say what you like about the aptly named O'Leary, but he's running a very successful business. He also understands when he's pissing people off unlike certain entrepreneurs and accountants in NE Lincs I could name.

I find it amusing everyone is taking the tweet of a journalist as gospel when he has history of tweeting total rubbish. No-one has questioned whether or not it was true and just assumed that Slade and Fenty are the anti-Christ.

Lots of journos tweet lots of rubbish - not all managers & major shareholders respond with public pillory.

What people were saying Steffi, after the original Matt Dean incident was that any statement denying any media claim be made in a professional manner. To simply say it isn’t true without casting aspersions on the journalist concerned.

Nobody asked them to ignore it at all. You’re spinning the same lines as JF. It was the wording of the statement, not the fact that one was made. If I didn’t want people to keep beating me with a stick, I wouldn’t keep providing them with sticks !!!

| The wife was going away for a girly weekend. I jokingly remarked 'I don't know whether to spend it watching porn or watching football' 'you may as well spend it watching porn' she replied That's understanding darling what makes you say that? I asked She said 'Well you already know how to play football' |

But they've not done anything here and they are still getting beaten with a stick!

I find it amusing that these Fentynistas swallow everything he says. Matt Dean made a tweet, the club rebutted that but went way over the top, Matt Dean then backs his original tweet because he is forced to respond due to Towns rebuttal, Town cry foul and the rebuttal goes even further way over the top than the last. Fenty bubbles that he can't do right from wrong. A fan at the fans forum stated that the club was right to rebut what was tweeted but but wrong in the manner in which it responded which everyone agreed with the fan, Fenty response, that's your opinion. Basically Johns response for everything when being criticized.

...and this speaks volumes about the whole incident. It's nothing to do with " swallowing everything he says " , it's the dig at anyone who doesn't see JF as the AntiChrist! So you are saying it was ok to swallow what Matt Dean tweeted ( but also say he's a journo so it's his job to speculate! ). Then when JF replies, he's gone over the top and didn't respond in a professional manner. Well, as far as I'm concerned anybody , journo or otherwise , tweets " fake news " ( in other words a lie ) then that is unprofessional and he deserves all the flak he gets.

Rancido, I think you're missing the point made by several people on here including M93, Civvy and myself, and people at the fans forum, that it wasn't the fact Fenty replied it was the way that he did it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pOHfn2m9nlU

Are you lot still chuntering on about Matt Dean & John Fenty? Jesus Mary n Joseph... haven’t visited this place in an age, but thought I would drop by ahead of the game. To find you all still chirping on about this load of old rubbish
Seriously guys, get a life.
Your team is doing really well after an indifferent start. Result are decent and we are nicely poised, but all you can do is thrash the hell out of something that happened weeks ago.
It’s gone FFS leave it

the video is the best response yet but alas it will fall on deaf ears!!!

Not sure why Slade is getting his knickers in a twist to be honest, at the forum he said that he know Curtis was there as he was looking for tips after an interview or something similar. The story or non story comes out that Curtis is joining the coaching staff not taking Slade's job.......... Utter cobblers!
I cant see uttering anything about the Cobblers will help out.... Jimmy Floyd Haiselbank might worry that he's about to be replaced as well
