I don't think it's loony or right wing to suggest that the authorities could be diverting some of their efforts elsewhere, rather than be all over this like a rash. I think people should also be careful of what they say on this thread. I personally wouldn't have been so eager to create it in the first place. It's instigatory and digging up old ground. Each to their own I suppose. No. The word Pakistani has negative connotations and is usually used in an offensive way. Australians refer to themselves as aussies and as far as I'm aware the word has never been used in a negative way.

Couldn't agree more. I also find it repulsive that people awaiting trial for minor incidents are banned in the interim. A mate of mine was attacked at Lincoln, fought back and is now banned from all grounds in the country - his trial is months away. Makes me sick. |

Like it or not, racism will and should be dealt with in sport. She had no need to say it and dear I say, what a shining example of parenting it was, it's ok though, when her kids misbehave it'll be the fault of the made up diagnosis of ADHD or the teachers fault, not the shocking modelling of behaviour from the parents.
Fact is people like this have tarnished a game in which both teams got what they deserved and gave a good account of non league football...

From what I have heard, she wasnt banned, she was asked to stay away for her own safety and for the good of the club. They made it clear that, if she chose to attend games and anything happened to her, then it was her own responsibility.

i know the lady in question. she is a passionate town fan and obviously in this instance got slightly carried away. i think its a disgrace the way that she has been treat. thousnads of fans every week shout abuse and racial insults. i personally think its wrong, and i told her that i thought it was wrong. however to use her as a scapegoat is outrageous. what difference in all honesty is it going to make to the braintree, grimsby town or the player? asoloutley nothing. the difference it will make to the accused is massive. give her a slap on the wrist and lets move on. i hope this is a sensible out come and we see her back at b.p next year. |

i know the lady in question. she is a passionate town fan and obviously in this instance got slightly carried away. i think its a disgrace the way that she has been treat. thousnads of fans every week shout abuse and racial insults. i personally think its wrong, and i told her that i thought it was wrong. however to use her as a scapegoat is outrageous. what difference in all honesty is it going to make to the braintree, grimsby town or the player? asoloutley nothing. the difference it will make to the accused is massive. give her a slap on the wrist and lets move on. i hope this is a sensible out come and we see her back at b.p next year.
They really don't. But thousands of people also molest children every year. Or murder grannies for their pensions. Doesn't justify it because it's done by the masses now, does it? At the end of the day, the club don't give a hoot about your political views whether it be on the budget, race, homosexuality, pastys etc. Have your views, that's fine. But it's simple. For 90 minutes you keep it to yourself in case to offend others who've come to watch a game of football not listen to some loud mouthed, bigoted woman who should know better shout rude and offensive terms at players. Not rocket science. You can mutter about it all you like in your front room or back garden. But it's the same in any walk of life. If you shout the same insult at Denzel Washington's projection at a big screen in a cinema it'd be the same result. There's a code of conduct. She broke it. I for one, like the vast majority of other good, normal Town fans, will be delighted she'll be sat at home muttering her racist, bigoted shite at the TV this coming Saturday. |

It doesn't suggest anything of the sort. Racism should not occur anywhere on the planet, we are all human and should get on. However, the actions of football fans in Spain have no link to the actions of football fans here. Just because "thousands" do it in Spain doesn't mean one bigoted, loud-mouthed idiot should be let off the hook in this country. Isn't Liam lucky that this type of supporter didn't shout out racist remarks at him when he had his goal drought at the start of the season.
Put some gravy browning on Anthony Elding when he first played for us and the abuse could've turned really nasty, certainly more than what was heard from the Pontoon before he contributed properly to the team.

This confuses me too, any excuse to shout racist. Anyway the woman in question is a tool and it doesn't surprise me that she's bragging about it.
It's all about context and history of words - that's what gives them any power. P*ki is a word which has been used with almost entirely negative connotations and it's not really been used as an abbrevation of Pakistani but as an insult towards anybody from that region of Asia. Aussie has never been used in that way - I've never heard of anybody being 'Aussie-bashed'. Somebody earlier in the thread talked about hearing Indian and Pakistani youths using the word between themselves. This tends to happen with certain words in at attempt to take the sting out of it - look at how n*gger and qu*eer are used by parts of the communties that they've been previously used to insult. It doesn't mean that lots of people won't still find them offensive or that using them in an abusive manner is any less odious than it was 20/30/50 years ago. |

Is it honestly THAT surprising to you? This is the forum that started a campaign to have bans overturned for fans who were caught on camera damaging property and attacking police because town were relegated. Grimsby is also a small town that is mostly white and a center for racist thought. I imagine several people from Grimsby would join in with the woman if they felt they could get away with it as they certainly do around their own town. But that's just small town syndrome especially when the population of said town is like 99% white. I have no doubt there is a great deal of support on here and in the town for this woman's actions because in Grimsby anything that is local and white they must defend it since it's one of them. |

because in Grimsby anything that is local and white they must defend it since it's one of them.
I see racism as a form of bullying, and just like bullying, the seriousness of it is related to the effect it has on its victims. I also see racism as an attempt to depict whole groups of people in a negative way. It does not take much intelligence to work out that within most groups of people there are differences in attitude, intelligence, beliefs, behaviour,lifestyle, whatever. I'm hoping this footballer is sensible enough to realise that just because one person associated with Grimsby is allegedly abusive to black people, it doesn't mean we all are. |

From what I have heard, she wasnt banned, she was asked to stay away for her own safety and for the good of the club. They made it clear that, if she chose to attend games and anything happened to her, then it was her own responsibility.

I still find it totally arbitrary that you can be pulled up for saying something about someone's skin colour, but not their hair colour, eye colour or any other attribute of their body (apart from their sex probably). Football fans abuse players so routinely that for one person to to picked out for one remark about one physical attribute of a player seems just random to me. But that's the law!

The country has gone flipping mad in so many ways. Ok racially abusing a minority is a crime and is always well publicised but what about the blacks? Am I allowed to say that? but it is still only an abrivation of the nationality. Maybe. But in the annals of history, correct me if I'm wrong, but no one's been enslaved or murdered because of their hair or eye colour. Now I never liked being called skinny or big nosed but I'm pretty confident I don't feel as much about it as I would if I'd be called a "dirty English illegitimate" by a Scot or an Argentine. I think my feelings would be wound up a few more notches if I was black and called a "black illegitimate". I don't know. But offense is in the eye of the recipient. |

I still say, I don't know Karen Leonard (the accused) very well but I do not believe she is a racist. But I feel public opinion, if not judicial fact will finish her at GTFC. |

Yes in a nutshell. It's the illegitimate that should count not the adjective - bald or black. illegitimate used to be one of the worst things you can call someone. I've just read a 19th century novel where the fact that someone had fathered a illegitimate was the crux of the whole plot. I think chanting stuff about killing yorkies is far worse than pointing out someone's skin colour, excessive weight or lack or hair. That's playground stuff - I'd be staggered if anyone was genuinely offended by it. Yet the anti-Yorkie stuff is far more violent and yet the law either allows it or is not enforced. |

I live in Leicester, studying on a course where roughly 60% of the students are pakistani or indian. We all get along fine and there's no segregation, we work together and I play football with a few of the indian lads in my spare time. I don't think there is necessarily a divide as much as you're making out. |

Discrimination is terrible and I'd be the first to condemn it, but nobody has suggested any discrimination is taking place. We are not talking about the normal world here we are talking about football matches where personal abuse is so commonplace it's an accepted part of the game. Fans hurl abuse at one another, about their respective towns and the players representing them on the pitch. It all washes off everyone and nobody takes any of it seriously. I can go to a football match, celebrate the life and times of the yorkshire ripper, request women to strip off for the lads, make male masturbator signs at opposition fans, and so on, but if I dare use the adjective black in any part of this tirade I can be pulled up for breaking the law! |

Some very good points in there ! The way I see it is quite simple. (though not quite sure what it means) Some people share the same traits and some don't. Eveyone's different deep down regardless of who they are or whether they share the same makeup or not. Take 2 random people and they'll either get on or they won't - that's life ! |

You can't say what she allegedly said anywhere these days, especially a football ground present. The 'attack' was unprovoked and was uncalled for.
This 'woman' has only been going for a few seasons yet had caused disruption between a number of fans. She knows a player, whoop Di bloody do...if she is found guilty then ban her, those ate the sanctions...she didn't even need to say anything to him anyway.

Wasn't sure wether to post this but i'll go ahead anyway, there's no way I can try and get my point across to every individual involved.
The person surrounded at the end was me, I was with my 69 year old Grandad and was confronted by a group of lads at the end of the game. One of them known to me, a friend when I was a bit younger. Asked me why I grassed the said woman up, grabbed me by the throat and gave me no chance to say my piece. I'd like to get one thing straight with anybody friends with the woman, I understand that you are upset that your friend has this hanging over her head. But in the original post on the original thread was asking what happened, I had as little idea as everybody else who it was. At no point have I come on here and said it was the person involved, it's never once involved me and this thread was only relaying what happened.
I do understand that people won't listen to this and will have their own opinion on the matter and that is fine. But the truth is I had nothing to do with this person being charged, I simply asked the question. In my opinion if it wasn't obvious who I was from my posts on here then I doubt it would've been me set upon but I guess when people are upset they pick out a target. But to say it was 'my fault she was charged' was unfair. It ended with the woman herself coming down the street to say it was all my fault and her husband (who seemed up for a chat and wanting an explaination) getting caught up and hitting me. No harm done and i'll take it on the chin and move on.
Guess why i've posted on here is that it's impossible to get across to people any other way as trying to explain by face only ended in confrontation. However I don't expect to come to a Town game, which i've done since I was 8 years old (i'm 20 now so it's a fair while) and be punched after the game because I was easiest to blame. The last two home games are my last as i'm moving away in May, I don't want them to be ruined because people want to use me as a scapegoat.
I hope whoever was there will read this and possibly see that it isn't me who's 'grassed' and got the charges brought to the woman. As far as I see it, it's over as far as my involvement is concerened and i'm sure the correct judgement will be reached. I'll forget about today, most probably wouldn't. But i'll take it as tempers flaring as they see a friend is being mistreated but for the final time, it wasn't me who brought that on.

There's no point in all honesty, i'm not a 'witness' because I have absolutely nothing to do with it. If what you've said is true then I'd probably advise you to contact the police, let them deal with it.
Blooody hell the courts will be overflowing with cases if it goes on like this. FFS some local knobheads throw their weight about a bit and every fuker wants to reach for the charge sheet again (isn't wasting the courts time with a prosecution resulting from an ill considered remark made by some silly tart enough?) If they threatened every fuker who has accused this woman (with everything from racism to mass murder) the charge sheet would be a mile long. It all sounds very unpleasant but no worse than a run in with a few opposing fans and I don't see how the presence of the 69 year old grandfather affects it one way or the other - the old fella probably wanted to get stuck in!
