I was going to wait a bit before I post on this thread, but I can’t.. Doubtless it should and will go to ‘non football’ but I will say this - one poster saying ‘gobbing off’’ and another saying he ‘should’ve already been sacked’ and then conflating issues doesn’t give me much hope that I’ll read much sense on the thread.
Well this threads going to end well, I’m sure. Whether you agree with Lineker or not (on most issues I do) he has a right to broadcast his opinions on his private platform. The BBC have previously or do currently engaged the services of Michael Portillo, Brian Cox, Alan Sugar, Giles Brandreth, Jeremy Clarkson, Karen Brady and many many more who have voiced political opinions in their private - non BBC role. Why is Gary Lineker different?
Yes. GB News and Talk TV will lose their (tiny) minds and will complain about the ‘woke brigade’ and how they try to shut down free speech and de-platform people, and then try to shut down and de-platform Lineker because he’s expressed a personal view that is compassionate and actually correct. And….they’ll both not notice the irony, or treat their viewers with such contempt that they’ll expect them not to notice the irony.
He knows what he did, and fellow colleagues at the BBC do too, and are not happy about it.
Is that because you support a state that has killed 0ver 10,000 civilians with weapons we have supplied them with.
Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day, teach a man to fish and you give him an excuse for him to escape from the wife and kids for the weekend and drink lots of beer.
No you didn't you put it up to support your anti B.B.C, agenda.
Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day, teach a man to fish and you give him an excuse for him to escape from the wife and kids for the weekend and drink lots of beer.
Hmm..the title 'gobbing off again' suggests more than an unbiased survey of Fishy poster's views on a nuanced, complicated and serious geopolitical issue.
Miss Scunthorpe. Not a beauty pageant, just sound advice.
It seems to be that those of a right wing hue only cherish free speech and liberty when they are being used to espouse right wing views.
And the woke left don't then?
Funny how some talk of inclusivity when it comes to a man who decides to put a wig and a dress on them calls himself a woman and demands women's rights but they won't accept those who think that's bull excrement
In your case it would be a very thin book. You really are a nasty piece of work.

What has inclusivity got to do with a discussion about Gary Lineker's views on the Israel/Palestine conflict?
Did the Mail have a pullout of right wing talking points that you have to check off to get the better of "the woke left"?
And again, for the hard of thinking: "Woke is an adjective derived from African-American Vernacular English (AAVE) meaning "alert to racial prejudice and discrimination". Beginning in the 2010s, it came to encompass a broader awareness of social inequalities such as racial justice, sexism and LGBT rights"
It's not an insult.
Miss Scunthorpe. Not a beauty pageant, just sound advice.
Linakar should shut his mouth about our brave boyz in the IDF, obvs had his sense coached out of him by the wokerati that he works with like Alan Shearer.

Sorry but that’s just a load of guff. And what the f*ck’ is the ‘woke left’ we keep hearing about?! What relevance has that invented twaddle got to do with anything here?
The actual video Lineker shared was an interview with an Israeli scholar. Is that scholar going to be called anti-Semitic?
What’s really unhelpful and barely mentioned anywhere is that being critical of Israel and being anti-Semitic are NOT the same thing. This is nearly always a conflation peddled.

Remember, the woke left is the extremist wing of the anti growth coalition and is closely aligned to the tofu eating wokerati.

Antisemitism has been weaponised to shut down any criticism of the Israeli state. You can validly criticise Israel without being anti-Semitic
Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day, teach a man to fish and you give him an excuse for him to escape from the wife and kids for the weekend and drink lots of beer.
Because you only object to him “gobbing off” when he is seen to be supportive of, or in this case merely even-handed with, a viewpoint which goes against your own.

Typical, abusive when they can't win their argument. BTW, chaos33 seems to be posting a lot on here, I blocked you ages ago, so don't waste your time.
Didn’t realise there was an argument to be won. It’s just you posting your daily quota of ignorant shíte and having to be spoon fed the most basic concepts. It’s beyond boring. No idea how someone who spends so much time online can be so ill informed about everything.

Seems to me you never answered the quite reasonable question as to why you believe Lineker was gobbing off, so at the minute “they” seem to be winning the argument.
Jesus, what a loon. Can somebody do me a favour and get him to answer why he said Lineker was ‘gobbing off’? Let’s hear him actually make a proper argument….

Would you send me a link to your thread where you 'asked for opinions' about the group of right wingers that fought with the police so that they could 'protect' the cenotaph whilst chanting 'Engerland, Engerland' and later fought with the police in Chinatown and were also seen goading the police on a bridge over the Thames on Saturday November 11th.
You must have seen it, it was widely covered on Sky, BBC and other news channels.
Many thanks.

Not conspiracy theories but absolute truth. You wait and see.

I literally went to Luton to watch town in the FA Cup a few days after you posted that nonsense and drank loads of pints and spent plenty of time in areas of the town well populated by muslims and nobody tried to do Sharia Law on me, or any other town fan for that measure. How much more waiting do I need to do?
It's almost like you're in an echo chamber where the things that wind you up are constantly put forward for your attention in order for the media companies involved to get as many of your clicks as possible.

Lol, you are so naïve. There are actual videos showing Muslims in London threatening people for abusing Sharia Law.
As a commissioned officer of 8 years I find highly embarrassing I served with people with views like yours.
I couldn't give 2 fecks about how embarrassed you are, and those are not my views, I posted that for people to debate and express their opinions. I never said I supported either side in that conflict. But it says it all that you was a Rupert, no brains or common sense, good job we had SNCO;s like me to keep you on the straight and narrow.

Along with videos of white hillbillies in the bible belt states of America dressed up in white hoods, burning black people on stakes.
And thousands upon thousands of videos of many, many bad people with really warped views of the world.
But not all white people are frothing at the mouth members of the KKK, nor are all Muslims advocating Sharia Law is upheld. It's like saying all OAP's from Barton are morons who believe everything they read in the Daily Mail based on one instance, thankfully I know it's not true...

*sigh*....
Sharia is literally translated as 'the correct path' and is believed, by Muslims, to be the way to live moral lives and grow close to God. Sharia is interpreted very differently within Islam itself and is therefore expressed in different ways in different countries and among different Muslim groups (eg Sunni and Shia Muslims). In it's most severe form it has been criticised for it's treatment of women and the severity of punishments. In it's least extreme form it can be seen as being similar to the Ten Commandments of Christianity.
There is no single form of 'Sharia Law'
Introducing 'Sharia Law' in London would be very difficult because the racial make up of London is very varied and Muslims do not represent a particularly large group proportionately compared to other religions. It would make more sense to introduce 'Sharia Law' in other towns and cities where the Muslim population represents a greater proportion of the general population and live in more concentrated areas. Where Muslims do concentrate in London it tends to be based on their country of origin rather than their religion, like Bangladeshis in East London. Ironically Bangladeshis do not interpret Sharia strictly and severely, tending to be more focused on their work and business interests and families within an Islamic framework.
The narrative of Sharia Law being introduced in London is a constant anti Islamic trope from right wing groups and commentators based in areas geographically (and culturally) remote from London. I note that you live in Barton On Humber.
No objection is ever raised by these commentators to areas in London that actually do have clear and noticeable manifestations of religious laws like the areas of North London that are physically marked out so that Orthodox Jews have to observe Shabbat.

So that makes it ok for Muslim Patrols to tell women they cannot wear short skirts in a Muslim area? Or that they are not allowed to drink alcohol in a Muslim area? Or you cannot hold hands with your girlfriend? This is England, their laws are not our laws.

It's not factual when you add an opinion to it. "Gobbing off" clearly shows you're negative about him posting what he posted. Which is fine, that's your opinion. The problem is you then get all upset and in to victim mode when people, and it appears to be the majority, disagree with you.

No such thread mate, do you make things up for fun? BTW, I don't watch news programmes very often, if at all these days, too depressing. Oh, and please send me a link to that thread that you think I posted in. I also don't do 'right wing' or 'left wing', to me they are just football positions.
The thing I find most amusing about this thread is that our right-wing friend from Barton on Humber is dismissing the views of a fellow former member of the armed forces because he's apparently the 'wrong sort of soldier'. How bizarre.
Jesus H….I bet this guy was popular as fu** with his comrades in the army! Absolutely without self awareness of any kind, bigoted, bogus victim whopper who seems to be absolutely at odds with everybody on here at all times about everything. That is some achievement.
After reading this some of you should stick to football and keep some of your poorly educated opinions within
Another one jumping on the bandwagon! BTW, this is a public forum, I can, and will post my opinions whenever I like, if you don't like them, then don't read them.

'Right Wing'! I have already stated I don't do either wing, I don't even know what 'right wing' or 'left wing' is, I'm not into politics. I dismissed his views because I don't agree with them, also, if you had been a soldier, you would know why Officers were called Ruperts in my time in the Army.

My point was that there would be no such link. I do apologise if it was too subtle for you.
My comment was in response to you saying that you post about things from a wide variety of views. You are happy to post Islamophobic comments and about Lineker and his 'woke' views but there is little evidence (OK, absolutely no evidence) of you expressing outrage about clear law breaking by an easily identified right wing group that was widely covered in the media. I can only assume that whatever outlet you did see it on identified them as brave patriots protecting our heritage (by belting policemen).
If you believe that you don't do right wing I am prepared to leave you in your fantasy world.
And it's deeply ironic that you want to claim that you don't watch news programmes after posting the link that started this thread off.

So you think everyone is glued to a TV all day watching the news? Nope, not true, what is also not true is this: "And it's deeply ironic that you want to claim that you don't watch news programmes"
Read the post again, I said 'not very often' do I watch the news, so another little lie from you. If you think you have something to say about me, make sure that it is true before you actually post it, as it makes you look silly.

Most amusing thing for me is that B&W Bear once objected to a post I made showing a strange reffing decision in football game, asking what it had to do with GTFC. Then he goes off on this thread

I think this is very much on topic, particularly as we hang around the gates waiting for news on ‘Are Tel’.
It was more that Ms Black had a velvet underground resembling a squirrel, rather than a vertical smile reminiscent of a female squirrel’s furburger.
“Busy afternoon of meetings today, I think I’ll check the Fishy and see if we’ve appointed a new manager yet.” . . . “Oh, we haven’t, but what’s this? Gary Lineker has said something. 11 pages!? Well this must be very interesting. I’ll have to check this out.” . . .
BaWB has a point. How does your England look like?
Ok. I'll bite.
What 'point' does he have? That there are indeed extremists out there, across all walks of life, religion, creed, colour etc. etc.? On that I won't argue and I don't disagree.
My England looks like a place that acknowledges that a few views don't represent a far larger group. It doesn't really care for colours, religions and indeed hate. It welcomes the freedom that we all have of speech and thought. What it doesn't welcome is bigoted views, regardless of where they come from.

I think the big problem here is whether you agree with his opinions and politics or not, is that the BBC is meant to be impartial. Therefore when someone who is employed by the BBC, even on a freelance basis, is not impartial then it causes a big problem. It’s in the BBC’s constitution that they must be impartial and whether they are or not is another argument. However Lineker is not impartial and I think the BBC who are literally paying him millions of pounds have the right to ask him to moderate his opinions. I know he and many others say it’s his personal account and he’s voicing his personal opinion not the BBC’s, but he is being very naive in expecting to get away with it ad infinitum when the BBC are paying him such a vast sum of money. In my humble opinion the BBC have the right to ask him to be impartial because they are meant to be and all said and done all the other presenters all seem to toe the line.
What 'point' does he have? That there are indeed extremists out there, across all walks of life, religion, creed, colour etc. etc.? On that I won't argue and I don't disagree.

Is that enough for you?
Would you say this forum fairly reflects " It welcomes the freedom that we all have of speech and thought" ?
But that logic applies to literally no other people. Christ, you’ve even got Tory MPs interviewing Tory MPs on GB News and OFCOM are ignoring the flagrant rule breach. My issue is - there are too many people expressing trenchant opinions on their right to free speech and hostility to those who try to close down that right or who express their offence. They say…‘get over it, you snowflake’. Then Gary Lineker shares a video (he didn’t express an opinion) and they lose their fu**ing minds and want him sacked. It’s absolutely ludicrous. What some people want is; free speech for some people, but not for others. They want to smash the ‘offended’ and tell them to get a grip, and then they meltdown with offence when Gary Lineker dares to utter a word.
I do wish people would take a step back and see what’s really going on in this client-journalist populism freak show. Jesus- you’ve even got the Daily Mail today saying ‘Suella leads the rebellion against mass immigration’. How can you lead the revolt against something you were responsible for until last f*ucking Tuesday?! It’s an insane gaslight and it needs calling out.
Gary Lineker can say what the hell he wants on his own platform and anyone can then debate his views, just the same as anyone else. The rules apply to everyone or they don’t apply at all…….and you get idiot citizens actually defending and supporting it. This is pure post truth territory now.
I must have missed the outcry about Andrew Neil spending literally decades presenting on the BBC despite his very publicised personal beliefs and opinions?

Yes, his right wing, pro Brexit views…..so that’s ok. These GB News/Talk TV/Daily Mail ghouls will have ordinary people conned and manipulated into thinking that broken, divided Britain is down to the ‘woke left’ or Gary Lineker, or the anti growth coalition or scores of other f***ing concocted fantasy groups, when really, nobody has been anywhere near power for almost a decade and a half, but the Tories. There are hundreds of thousands of people in this country who have been conned, hoodwinked and manipulated into voting and opining against their own interests whilst this horrendous collection of low grade, interchangeable public servants and client journalists ensure that public money is redistributed away from public services into private hands and public opinion is manipulated into looking away from the truth and towards completely fabricated, imaginary sources of blame - Gary Lineker, the EU, the ‘woke left, immigrants, striking doctors’……
Does anyone remember Major Misunderstanding in Viz?
You can flip that and say that figure applies to some left wingers as it does to the right( both people can get entrenched in their own ideologies myself included) . Incidentally I was left wing ,then right and now Iam down the middle with a slight leaning to the leftist side due to the green party representing what I feel most passionate about( looking after our planet).
