Fair point Epworth.
Not only that but if the Beeb are going to pull the plug on the game lets hope they have the forethought / consideration / decency to come to an arrangement with ITV  so that us unfashionable/licence fee paying Mariner fans are not robbed of our once in a lifetime chance to see our club in the 5th round of the FA Cup.

6th round. No, I can't believe it either!

I thought this thread was about Jug Ears but it has turned into a political broadcast for the labour party by the usual bigots. This was a word used by the labour leader Mr. Brown .

So in summary:

Nobody famous should be allowed to air their thoughts on goverment policy (They are not pushing any political agenda, they are just expressing their thoughts on current affairs) unless of course their thoughts are of a right wing persuasion

His references to 30s germany were uncalled for - depsite the similiarities in the use of the govts own language to demonise asylum seekers as "invaders", and to bring in laws to prevent/stop peaceful protests

Freedom of Speech is sacrosant - unless its somebody espousing a left leaning view as they are just woke

It's OK for politicians to continually interfere with the BBC in the way it is doing in an effort to extinguish anyone with a view they don't like

Isn't the point that the BBC is paid for by the Licence payers who are legally bound to buy it if they want to watch TV. Even if they don't watch BBC but Channel 4 , they must have a licence which goes to the BBC or I go to gaol. Its a public broadcaster so there are caveats. One of them is to keep your private political preferences to yourself.
Now if he worked for Sky ITV Chanel5 BT etc and he said same things, nothing I could do about it. I could just not buy my subscription. I cannot not buy a licence.  That is the point.

Freedom of speech works both ways, remember the next time someone says blokes cannot be women. Kathleen Stock had to hire guards because Woke Left threatened her physically. And lets not forget JK Rowling.

Who are the ‘usual bigots’ (remember you’re using the phrase ‘jug ears’)’?

That's not a summary, merely an interpretation. Famous people have a responsibility on what they say purely based on what they say influences those that follow them. I dare say if a controversial tweet produced by a right of centre celebrity would have
produced a similar reaction from the left .
Lineker could easily have used '30s Stallins' treatment of the Russian people but it's not as emotive as the German comparison. He clumsily or maybe intentionally forgot to realise that many surviving people in the UK lost loved ones in Germanys' policies in the '30s and these are still raw wounds for many of our Jewish community who came here to escape that vile regime.
As for the channel asylum seekers, I have no issue with the genuine ones but, and I have asked this question before but yet to hear a constructive answer, why have they not seeked asylum in France? It is a safe, socialist EU country which would provide all their needs for a safe secure future.

It was a vile regime. I agree.

So vile that our Government heavily restricted visas and entry into the UK for Jewish refugees escaping persecution. Sounds familiar?

Many of those that were allowed to enter were then interned for long periods of the War.

We also prevented many Jews from escaping to British controlled Palestine.

We were also early adopters of what we now to be concentration camps.

In 2020 and 2021 thr bbc also clarified that opinions of those connected, not exploited directly by the bbc were free to have personal social media accounts, accounts they may use to offer their opinion or words to that effect…

it’s worth noting though, this isn’t really the bbc we’re talking about, it’s 2/3 people at the top who, whilst getting rogered by one high ranking Tory and pulling the hooter of another are flipping it really.
