No chance it was a tactic to argue over a penalty taker...there should be absolutely no doubt or discussion on the day...you have a nominated taker and a deputy in case the nominated has left the field.
Glennons penalty was poor...weak..mid height and close to the keeper. As soon as I saw the 3 man scrum over the ball I knew it wasn't going in.

That would likely have bagged the points so it needs reviewing at Cheapside and putting right.

Scunthorpe’s long-serving fullback Jack Brownsword was an excellent penalty taker.  He played mainly in the 1960s.  In those days fullbacks just defended.  He scored 50 odd goals.  All of them penalties bar one.

I’m surprised about the scrummage for the ball when we got the pen - surely we’d been practising them for the Luton replay and had established our best taker?

Graham Alexander was pretty good, so was Phil Neal and Stuart Pearce all full backs. He missed it’s annoying but as others have said, it happens. Keeper guessed right give him credit even though not the greatest strike from Glennon.

Jonny Scott hardly ever missed for us and he put the ball in the same place nearly every time halfway up and near the post to keepers right.

Just as well we won our 3 playoff matches in extra time.  Therefore avoided the lottery of penalties.

Aye
It wouldn't be a lottery - we'd have definitely lost!

I’m not so sure. If there is indeed a God, he had us on his Pools coupon throughout that play-off run. We were simply destined to win, whatever happened.

Quoted from Tommy

Its easy to say he shouldve hit it down the middle now we know the keeper dived to his right, but if Glennon had smashed it down the middle and the keeper stood still and saved it, he'd be slated for hitting it down the middle.

Poor penalty as it was almost relying on the keeper going the other way. Got to assume the keeper is going to guess right and make it un-save-able if he does. That said, people miss penalties all the time so won't lose any sleep over it.

How many keepers do you see stand still when a penalty is taken?
