Accessed site on the dot this morning when tickets were released...one click to enter the select ticket page and greeted with just a blank screen with no options.
Either we sold out in 30 secs,  we'll done if so.
the website has crashed
or there has been an error and the listing is not there

Anyone get through ?

Gash.
I guess when they get out of bed they will rectify it and the tickets will just appear at some random time.

I wonder if they'll push it back 24/48 hours to stop people howling if they just randomly appear at 10 and they miss out. Assuming they will only sell a set number f2f this morning?

Logged in on the dot to be greeted with a 12 minute queue timer. Once that elapsed, nothing happened. Refreshed to be met with a screen with no options. Refreshed a few times to then be kicked out and upon logging in again, was met with a 4 minute countdown. A wholly didgruntling  experience

Venuebox clearly isn’t very good, surely the club can just intercourse it off and say it’s not delivering what they need. The minute we get a game that means a fair few try and log on to get tickets it shits a brick and throws a paddy.

Lisa Piggott initially said on Facebook that all tickets were sold out by 07:03 this morning, and now she is advising people to try again as there has been another glitch in the system.

I don't blame Lisa at all for the misinformation, this ticketing system is a shambles!

If there’s been a glitch then a lot of people will be wanting money back if they got one before 7:03am. Either that or they’ve double sold every ticket. Or she’s covering her back because they never actually went on at 7…Genuinely not seen one person say they got one before the recent influx about 15 mins ago.

Is it usually 75% online, 25% in store? So 150 in store, give or take.

Absolute písstake this morning, even worse that they’ve just ignored it.

Utterly disgusting stuff from the club on this - if they're incapable of making the tickets available at the announced 7am time they shouldn't just be randomly sticking them all up ~90 minutes late with no warning. I have no issue if I lose out on getting tickets if i'm there refreshing the website on time and I don't get through, but to lose out because they shoved the tickets online while I was on my way to work meaning I didn't even have a chance at buying them is completely unacceptable. I thought we'd moved on from Fenty era incompetence of this magnitude but apparently not.

"Hi Jenna, this was due to the amount of supporters trying to access tickets! Apologies to you, and to anyone else, who hah issues this morning."

This was a direct reply to a Town fan. I'm not sure that marries up with what happened. All of a sudden the tickets were available at 8.40, nobody could get them before that.

Seems everyone at the club was still in bed.

I've been really surprised, not in a good way, with the digital and online commercial operations since the takeover, especially given JS's business background. The layout, design and consumer interactive experience belongs to a previous decade and two shambolic away ticketing operations in a row isn't great either. Can't fault much else, but digital, especially ticketing, needs a serious overhaul..

This desire to score 'community' points is pure VS. Many other clubs operate on a membership scheme whereby you have to log in anyhow to buy tickets.

Asking elderly STH's to queue outside in freezing conditions is an abuse of loyal customers who committed their funds early so that the club could set a budget.

Wise up Town!

Absolute nonsense that response - the ticketing website was letting people in after sitting in a queue at 7am, they'd just not put the ticket allocation up for sale on it. Clearly someone at ~8:40 clicked a button to make them available (seems like the sort of time someone might arrive into work at the ticket office and resolve the problem)

It's really not good enough mate. As you say, the glitch thing is an obvious fob, someone hasn't clicked a button to enable the tickets to go live. People would have been trying for an hour+ and then had to leave for work or take the kids to school. For the club to just randomly drop them at 8.40 is urine poor, there should have been a comms sent out to apologise and say they would be made available at 10am to give everyone a fair chance. If Venue Toolbox genuinely can't handle the bandwidth required they need to change providers

I'm totally disappointed with this morning's fiasco

I was on there for 7 o'clock on the dot, had a 10 minute countdown and then nothing after that other than to be told  'you do not have permission to view the page using the credentials supplied'

I kept trying until after 8 o'clock but then had to leave for work and while travelling ( or rather sitting on the A63 ) got in the office to find the tickets had been supplied while I was en route

A very poor show indeed .... can't do anything about it of course but an apology from the club should be their minimum response  😏

Ha at least the old skool que in the freezing fog option still works.
This particular fixture was always going to be problematic given the urine poor allocation I've no doubt we could have shifted 3k.UTM

This was a direct reply to a Town fan. I'm not sure that marries up with what happened. All of a sudden the tickets were available at 8.40, nobody could get them before that.

Seems everyone at the club was still in bed.

Yeah that’s clearly complete horse shít, if the website was too busy to handle the traffic it wouldn’t let everyone on to the same page, you’d just be sat in a queue.

Like has been said, you could almost accept it if they held their hands up and either did something to rectify it (i.e. did the online sale 7am tomorrow), or apologised for it. There’s just been no acknowledgement of the problem, you’ve got someone lying on the Twitter account and someone from the ticket office chatting wham about being sold out at 7:03am on Facebook?!

Sorry you weren't fortunate Tim. I decided to go away for Xmas and take in another game rather than risk being unlucky in this morning's lottery.  I didn't want to miss out on Harrogate and end up stuck in Thorne all over Xmas. I can't bear the thought of being isolated at any time after the lockdowns. It is surprising how many people I bump into at games who will travel over a hundred miles to watch a grassroots game rather than stay indoors after the last few years. They're haunted by the experience.

Anyway, I've been invited to an AA friend's for Xmas Day and we'll do a meeting that evening. Home to Spurs on Boxing Day but would have given that up for a guaranteed ticket at Harrogate.

The worst thing is half the ground will be empty at Harrogate. Utter nonsense.

At least I get to see Town at Mansfield on Saturday!

I think the club's explanation is somewhat disingenuous ....no mention of what the issue was first thing today, other than to say by 9am, the allocation made available via the ticket portal had sold out,

It didn't say that from 7 o'clock on you couldn't even make a booking even if issues this morning have since been resolved

https://gtfc.co.uk/harrogate-tickets-sold-out/

As they say.... it happens. But it's not the first time so hopefully the club has a new year's resolution to get to the bottom of what causes these regular booking issues  🙄

I know it's probably just me whinging but having made the effort to get up and be in the queue from the off and to then miss out is a pain. Just hope lessons will be learned but I somehow doubt it

There's apparently a big enough section of our support that can't/won't use online ticketing portals, I'm not saying that's all elderly supporters but if people insist on having to buy tickets in person then they're gonna have to do it when it's cold every so often.

Yes and everyone who braved the cold got a ticket . Albeit they waited from 8am to make certain. Clearly the online option is flawed and needs urgently addressing.

Aye, I've got tickets but looking at the forecast it's set to be -2 on Friday night in Mansfield and won't get up above +2 all day on Saturday. Hope they've got some decent pitch covers!

There is that! The milder weather was supposed to have arrived by Friday but it seems to have gone back a day.

Fingers crossed.

Hope to see you soon Les. Its been a fair old time since we saw each other at a game.

I'm 73 and still climb hills in the snow and ice so no personal issues there. My other colleagues on Row G in the Upper are often less mobile, even older or travel some distance. The notion that this policy aids local fans other than those very close to the ground is illusory. It's ageist, ableist and hostile to exiles who pay more to support their team than locals. It disadvantages those on shifts and self employed who work away from Cleethorpes.

Guess what levels all these out?  Online sales from 6.00pm onwards. I suppose those who 'insist on having to buy tickets in person'' look forward to buying a paint brush or coal scuttle from Norris The Rubber Man!      They can support Barnstoneworth if they like the old days.

My personal opinion is that this percentage kept aside is so people can keep their perks and sort tickets out for their mates, something going online only prevents.

Finals at Wembley, London Stadium etc were online only and people managed to find a way of getting a ticket alright. Just make the leap and be done with it, it's not the most responsible thing to drag people out in subzero temperatures to queue for a ticket.

Lisa Piggott initially said on Facebook that all tickets were sold out by 07:03 this morning, and now she is advising people to try again as there has been another glitch in the system.

I don't blame Lisa at all for the misinformation, this ticketing system is a shambles!

Isn't she a senior member of staff?

If she has gone on a public site talking bull excrement then she needs to be reprimanded.

Absolute bllocks that excuse....there is no way that a sell out occurred by 7.03.....I was on the ticket page by 10 seconds after 0700 and wasn't waiting, wasn't in a queue, no circle of doom ....the page was loaded but the ticket options just weren't there.

100% someone dropped a bllock

Surely this fixture should have flagged up major concerns with the EFL before the fixtures where released and changed. It’s Boxing Day traditionally a game that attracts large attendances if said team has to have a home game on Boxing Day then surely it should be matched up with a team that historically does not have a large away following eg Salford or  Crawley etc

What gets me is, we'd sell out at Harrogate every possible day of the season, why couldn't they send us to Rochdale, Bradford or Doncaster, somewhere with a big capacity where we'd take more on Boxing Day than we would on any Saturday.

I suppose the counterargument is plod wouldn't fancy it. 3,000 Town fans at Bradford may put them off, it'd, at best, get moved forward to 12.30.

I’m well aware it’s not anyone’s fault per se but not entirely sure a club employee should be putting something on social media without the real facts, especially knowing how dependent people are on social media for information.

I do agree, but it presumes that actual people make these plans, not algorithms. Boxing Day was probably the worst time for us to be away at Harrogate - a woefully small away allocation of 600, which would’ve  been problematic at any time, exacerbated by the traditional trend of large numbers attending games on Boxing Day. If a sentient, informed person had thought about this fixture, it wouldn’t have been scheduled this way. But I seriously doubt anyone at the EFL knows or cares about this problem. Screw the average fan. Just show us the money.
This should’ve been a home game, if consideration or common sense were to prevail. If we were to be away, it should’ve been Donny, Mansfield or Bradford, where large numbers of willing paying customers could have acquired a ticket and attended. I know that nobody would potentially give us 3000 (demand) but a bigger proportion of that market than a measly 600 would have been fair and responsive to demand.

The reason I queue outside to buy is not because I am old or computer illiterate it’s because I know that every time there will be high demand the club will intercourse up the online sales . So don’t blame us for being Luddites just recognise reality.

I don't care whose fault it is, club , ticket host, I.t system it really doesn't matter I am not wanting a name and shame exercise.
What matters is how the organisation reacts to a failure of customer service. I really am even not that @rsed about the rubbish statements so far....I do however expect a company to investigate complaints, find out what exactly went wrong and rectify it.
This isn't the first time there have been issues around this subject.....hope its the last.

Not sure how relevant this is, if Chelsea had sold out a home or away game, on the Saturday morning at 9am, any tickets that had been returned at close of business on the Friday night were fully reimbursed and then at 9am on the Saturday those same tickets were sold at the Stamford Bridge ticket office on a first come first served basis, this was a winner for everyone.

You are not a Luddite. If I lived in Grimsby, I would do the same. The club, however, is like a stubborn mill owner in Halifax refusing to convert from water power to steam and continuing to send his goods by canal instead of by those damned new fangled trains.

If we exiles were to elect a great leader with the combined intellect of Ska Face, Chaos and Poojah who could galvanise our throng to flash mob the Ticket office with  2000 baying Londoners, Mancunians, and our Yorkshire contingent, then we might have an impact. As it is, we are a loose diaspora of lonely nail biting keyboard warriors , more concerned with correcting each other's spelling.

We have played at home on Boxing Day in 2016 (Accrington) and 2017 (Mansfield). Apart from that, we haven't played at home since our first relegation from L2.

Really no other way of looking at this as poor from the club, unfortunately it's not an isolated incident when it comes to ticketing.

Let me be clear, I don't think anyone realistically expects an easy ride when we're faced with such a small allocation for a Boxing Day fixture.  But the club should have been all over this like a rash.  Previous incidents with the ticketing system + high demand definitely warrants an extra bit of checking that the system is going to work.

It doesn't take a detective to figure out that the option for the Harrogate tickets wasn't added to the website.  Everything else was available and yet just before 9am, as pointed out by others the point people will arrive in the office, they magically appear.  This is despite a club employee trying her best to fan the flames by stating they've sold out very shortly after 7am.  The whole thing just looks shoddy and reeks of incompetence.

Change is happening at the club, it's evident and 1878 aren't quiet about wanting to bring it around with casualties likely on the way to it.  But  it might be worth checking that those gaps that people filled are covered before they're out the building.  Too many incidents of things not happening right, or as well as they did before, for this not to be an issue.

The club will have known that we were only going to get 600 tickets for this match months ago. The only fair way would be a ballot when it is obvious that season ticket holders would buy them all.. Weeks before season ticket holders should be able to state an interest (either online or by visiting or phoning the ticket office), then a ballot should be held, winners then notified and given 48 hours to confirm/pay. Any ticket not sold then keep drawing more name from the ballot until sold.

Then every season ticket holder gets an equal chance of getting a ticket. No queuing in the cold/rain, no frustration of trying to get through on-line, and no blame to the club or individual.

Very well reasoned. I’ve just registered for some tickets for a 20/20 match at Headingley and also have been successful in the Wimbledon ballot so there is no excuse for not doing something about this going forward. The test of an organisation is not that it makes mistakes but what it does to resolve the issue (as some above have mentioned).

The ticket system we have is one that the old regime sorted out but Covid prevented them using it. That doesn't make 1878 free from criticism though because they are in a position to change and improve it.

It's clearly dysfunctional and I wonder if it's even capable of doing some of the suggestions made. A brief outline of what the club are doing to improve this would be handy.

Could the reason we’re still using be a contractual obligation?

Either way, it’s shite. It doesn’t work and it’s frustrating, one assumes it doesn’t require manual turning on so to speak so there’s also clearly a failing with the technology.

I’d argue that probably only 3 games will see this sort of surge and demand this season but either way, it needs rectifying.

I’m not sure where I sit regarding a ballot but I guess for the odd game like this it could be something that’s to be deployed.

Contractual obligation works both ways.  If it's not fit for purpose, it's a breach of contract.

System failure or process failure, it needs sorting as a priority.   An honest explanation is needed too.

I expect the new lot to have decent KPIs to hold suppliers to account and a "termination for convenience" clause which would allow us to get out of a long-term contract if it wasn't working out.

As this was purchased by the old lot, who knows what the contractual situation is...

I won't make a new thread but I bought Salford tickets online and didn't receive the text. Just called the club shop and the phone call lasted 45 seconds  by the end of it she called me darling 3 times, said thank you  and the tickets had come through.
Very efficient. Thank you gtfc.

If we have a contract then surely Venuetoolbox must be in breach because their system is barely fit for purpose when everyone piles on to make a booking at a specific time

Can you imagine if by chance we do get through the next round of the cup and then draw one of the big guns and the system discriminates unfairly once again.... it needs sorting out asap

This isn't me going in on 1878, or anyone for that matter.  Mistakes happen, it's what we learn from them that counts and how we make sure they don't happen again.

But I think we're at the point now that we can no longer blame the Fenty era for present failings when we've had 18 months of 1878 in the building.

If your suggestion is right and a contract was previously signed that gives us no wriggle room then I'd have expected that to be challenged.  Happy to be corrected but I think Pettit in particular is incredibly well positioned to challenge legal contracts, I seem to recall he was happy to liaise with the National League on their contract with BT Sport (although his offer was never accepted).
