'I walked in the dressing room. The window was open and I thought that a sea fret had got in. Then I saw smoke billowing from a pipe in the corner of the room...it was my centre-forward. He looked seven stone wet through. He went on to score thirty-odd goals that season.' Lawrie McMenemy on encountering the legend that was Matt Tees.

Still in London, missed the train, still on the ale

In his three stints as Grimsby Town manager spanning over 10 years the club was never relegated and he also guided them to three promotions.
Only 14 managers have reached 1,000 matches in charge of a Football League team by 1998 and Buckley is one of them.

Magnificent day, outstanding from Hurst - gets it just right again- and the players - how do they do it? I’m mentally exhausted but euphoric at the same time. How the feck they did ET again like that - I don’t know.

Shite stadium, but our amazing fans meant it didn’t matter. And there must have been 15k not 13k so not sure what happened there - was there a late rush.

One good thing about that venue though is Hackney Wick - 10 mins away - loved the bars and vibe in Queens Yard.

100% agree - probably the best pre-match i've had - great bars....really welcoming.....  I live just across the river but have never ventured that way.  Will be checking it out in the future....   really good vibe.  Made up for the stadium.  Having said that..... (controversal statement coming)... I thought it was good they didn't have seats behind the goals.  Worked much better than I thought with the layout..... but was surprised how many town fans were on "the other side" (we were in Block 238 opposite tunnel.  A huge amount of town fans on the opposite side.

Just back, had a brilliant day thanks to Hursty and the team. What can you say about a never say die attitude, absolutely fantastic. Met up with Kingston Mariner at half time and I think my optimism was slightly more than his and we got the result we wanted.

Thank you Town for a great season and may we prosper again in the next season.

Just back to gy. Brilliant day lucky to be at all 3 play off games. Feel like I need a rest from footy for a few weeks it's emotionally draining, so can't imagine how the players feel. This season taking my son to 14 away games and only seeing 2 defeats has been brilliant aswell has the home games. To me it's memories like this season that will stay forever seeing a team to be proud of and players who care again, but also memories I will cherish forever spending time with him supporting our local club. That's what footballs about.

Kudos to you DB. Your optimism has never faltered. You were right!

Good to meet you mate. Saw the various members of the family off on their journeys back up north. Drained now but I’ll be smiling all week and letting out random cries of “yes” all week at work.

Through the door there came familiar laughter,
I saw your face and heard you call my name.
Oh my friend we're older but no wiser,
For in our hearts the dreams are still the same.

I'm feeling almost sad that this insane ride is over - this season has been special at every single moment, from the sugar high of the first 10 games, the moody miserable stodgy middle then the grafting final slog to the playoffs and then this utterly insane 2 weeks.  Sitting at home now I cant believe it is all over, and now the planing starts for next season and I feel a little bit exhausted, spent and melancholic.

I think we will look back on this season as one of THE classic town seasons.....  some really good teams in this league.... good football, tough fight.....  some classy opponents but also one of the best Town teams I've seen since the Buckley era.

Slight drunked, tired rant....but just wow.

Just back in the country. Missed almost all of it for various reasons.

Sounds like a bizarre end to a very bizarre season.

I know we are biased but that is some story to win three ‘away’ ties, requiring extra-time in each.

Well done to absolutely everyone involved but particularly Paul Hurst and our long suffering fans.

It feels so good to be back in League 2.

Wow!!

I’ll start by being honest and say that this did not feel like a promotion season until I woke up this morning - a full 25 minutes before my 0530 alarm. We surely can’t beat a team who have been so solid all season on the back of 240’ over two games, I thought.
At half time - we can’t come from behind again, I thought.
At full time - Town can’t strike three times in extra time, I thought.

How wrong could I be?

Jurgen Klopp would call these lads mentality monsters. Human beings who become superhuman to not give up and stick to the game plan for as long as it requires to win a game. They’ve done that this season but to and even greater degree in this play off campaign.

Everyone involved with GTFC did their jobs perfectly today, us fans were incredible.

I’m absolutely bollocksed now, watching it back with a few beers after being designated driver for the day. Huge smile on my face. Love the lot of ya x

Just back. Well, we've done it, and I mean WE. The players, the fans, the staff, the owners, docks beers, scotch eggs, paushages, all of us deserve this.

I was not going to be brave, or naïve enough to tie my recovery from addiction too closely to the results of GTFC. 520 days ago, that would have been an awful decision, as I'd have no doubt fallen after our chaotic and embarrassing exit from the EFL last season. Having said that, there are some striking similarities over the past season in how my life, and my beloved Grimsby, as a town and a football club, have well and truly recovered from 20 years of abuse. Again, I take that with a pinch of salt. But it sure is sweet as hell nonetheless.

It has been the first season I've had the pleasure of being able to afford a season ticket in over a decade, and the memories I have shared this season with my fellow fans, my parents, and my children will live with me forever, we surely have 2 more mini mariners joining us throughout next season.

To Jason, Andrew, Paul, the players and all those mentioned at the top of this message, I sincerely thank you from the top, the bottom, and everything in between of my heart. You have made my personal recovery journey a lot, lot easier, and I'll never forget that.

Onto next season, and a return to the EFL for a club in good shape on and off the field. But before that, please use the next couple of weeks wisely to enjoy yourselves, you deserve it.

Non alcoholic beers, on me.

Rob De.

Blubbering wreck today…2016 was relief, today was almost disbelief.

I can’t actually fathom out what I’ve seen my club do in the last two weeks. It’s nothing short of a miracle. It’s magical. Unbelievable.

I’m struggling to process it all. Is the mad turn around from how bad we were a year ago? Is it the squad overhaul mid season? Is it the fact it’s a town side that never dies. Never stops and gives everything and more…

As we're close to London we where fortunate to get back for around 8.30 after a quick drink post match, it it wasn't work this morning we would have stayed on it for a bit longer.

Even with the short trip home I'm shot to sh!t but sat here now trying to concentrate on work with an absolute feeling of satisfaction and elation and ultimately pride in everyone associated with GTFC, I think we all played a part.

I'm also excited and massively optimistic as I believe we'll kick on now, I'm not expecting another play off campaign next season but I believe we'll be stable and competitive.

In regard top the game I think in the first have we didn't hit any form of groove or tempo and I actually felt them scoring before half time helped a bit as Hurst got the opportunity to get into the players pretty quickly at half time.

During the break I was concerned but still had some belief we'd come back and at least avoid defeat in the 90. What made me believe? The fact that this team had the belief and desire to do exactly that. I do think their big striker going off was a factor as they seemed to lose a bit of idea for a while which gave us a foothold.

In extra time if there was going to be a winner it was only ever going to be us who snatched it as we knew how. Luckily enough we did just that which is a massive relief as it takes us back into the EFL and to be honest I was struggling to see 5 penalty takes in the 11 that finished the game who I would have been confident would have converted.

Well done Town, the Mariners are now "Mighty" once again!!

When we had 2 decent shouts for a penalty turned down and Hightower scored for them just before half-time, I thought it was going to be one step too far for us this time but what a team, what a squad to have gone to extra-time 3 times shows what a brilliant bunch they are.

So proud to be a Mariner at the minute and it's not very often I've been able to say that.

All I can do is echo all the sentiments that have been posted so far . What I want to say is thanks to all involved with the club from top to bottom. Your hard work this season has given the people of GY their club back . The real heart of the community. To win through the route we’ve had through the playoffs is an incredible achievement. The look of happiness on my young boys and friends  faces is something that money can’t buy .

And of course the fans need a mention . To travel in such numbers when money is so tight at the moment was incredible. The noise in the stadium when we scored was just awesome.

So happy today

Three fairy tales in a fortnight. Probably the best two weeks ever for town fans.

I imagine Scunthorpe fans must be a little puzzled by how the manager they sacked, and the ‘lazy’ MacAtee turned out!!!!

Really hard to put into words. The day, the goals, the last few weeks, just very difficult to really do it justice.

The one feeling that sticks out is just an unbelievable sense of relief. For the whole season, a year’s work, to come down to one match, and for the players to then deliver under all that pressure, is incredible. You’re looking at next season if you lose and you’ve got another 40-odd game slog where Wrexham will walk the title, so you’re looking playoffs at best, and having to go through the whole thing again. The parachute payment gets cut in half. The academy is on the brink. Another season under the National League clowns. Away teams bringing 12.

So grateful to all the players, management, staff & board. They all deserve a bloody good suck imho.

I think the difference between the two teams were the subs. Our subs had a posi6impact when they came on, theirs didn't make any difference.
Also a huge slice of luck when Smithy nutted Hightower!
