Not sure if this has already been asked but does anyone know if VAR will be used on Sunday.

Would have been very interesting what would have happened had in been in place for our last 2 games!

Hope not!

I was all for VAR at first, and still not totally against it in the premier league.

However, using it in play-offs when not used during the season for the EFL makes no sense IMO.
Then what happened against Huddersfield was criminal.

Use it for everything, or nothing, not the biggest game of someones season

It's just with the game being at a Premier League ground all the facilties for it to be used will be there.

As has been said though, I hope it's not, but it would be good to see something definate regarding this.

Thought when VAR was introduced at the World Cup in Russia the officials etc got it spot on, it’s only when the premiership started using it and the refs and league got involved that they’ve made a mess/ joke of it, oh unless your club is one of the big 6 then it’s the best thing since sliced bread.

What's the VAR teams take on a ref not sending off a keeper for handball, do they agree he should stay on the pitch to 'not spoil the occasion'

Notts County.....likely at least one more penalty against us, penalty given for foul on Clifton not free kick that led to goal and Mani goal disallowed, red card for foul on Sousa....

Wrexham......penalty overruled, 2nd Mullin goal disallowed, Penalty given against Pearson, 2nd Waterfall goal disallowed, and God knows what else.....

would have been about 20 mins injury time with every goal being reviewed alone.

This worries me. VAR (which is bad enough as it is), with conference officials who aren't used to using it. The officials at our level are bad enough, I can imagine they'll be like a kid with a new toy using this at every opportunity and spoil the game.

What was wrong with Waterfall’s second goal? Just poor marking wasn’t it?

Agree though, VAR would’ve had an absolute field day with that match.

Smith blocked Tozer (I think it was Tozer) off to give Waterfall the free run. Highly amusing, Tozer to be fair didn't run after the ref crying he just collapsed to his knees as he knew he had been done by the very tactics they use when he chucks a throw in.

Hadn’t noticed that. Watched it back and you’re right, Smith has turned his back on the ball and heads straight towards Tozer. Not one you’d expect to see given very often, perhaps not even with VAR, but it was probably more of a foul than Wrexham’s first half disallowed goal.

Probably the ref evening things out since the penalty was very soft. I think it'd be called as a foul if Smith had blocked off the goalkeeper from claiming balls like Wrexham did to Crocombe several times, including the disallowed goal. It's technically obstruction but most won't give that since he didn't knock him flying or hold him, he just blocked Tozer's path so he couldn't follow the run of Waterfall.

To even things up, from what I saw both during the game and the highlights the ref could have blown for fouling by French on almost every Wrexham set piece, always on Crocombe's toes. We played them at their own game and did it very well.

Please not - I am not interested if a player has a big toe an inch offside following a wonder goal. VAR has gone too far for me.  Referees are human & make mistakes - ok.

There is no VAR official on the tweet announcing the officials on Sunday. Plus, that article is referring to the L2 playoff final, not ours. I think we’re alright.

Would be the first bit of good news all week.

That goal of Holohan’s at County was easily one of the single greatest moments I’ve experienced. The idea that that feeling might be taken, having to sit through 5 minutes of replays, away knocks me fûcking ill to be honest.

It's a National League referee on Sunday too so him and his officials won't have had any training around delaying the flag and everything else they have to do in a VAR game.

Besides the other VAR additions, our winner at County was offside.

With VAR for McAtee’s first goal at Wrexham, which was offside, it might have been given as a goal.  Based solely on the poor VAR decisions given against Huddersfield at Wembley.

I think there is a camera angle that showed Dieseruvwe was onside for the winner.

I hope to God VAR will not be used.

It has swapped one set of problems for another as proved yet again in the Championship playoff final.

One of the worst things ever.

Without getting in to the debate as to whether it’s good or bad, my biggest issue is how on earth can you have it for a final but not the regular season? You shimmer be able to pick and choose when it’s used to suit…

The biggest problem for me is that it ruins those amazing moments that football is all about. We've had two last minute winners in the last week that were just absolutely pure, undiluted magic. With VAR that would have been a few seconds of going mental, then a thought of 'Oh I wonder if there's anything wrong with it', then potentially quite a long wait to find out if they counted. I'd take the odd crap decision rather than lose those moments any day of the week.

What are the fine details in the double jeopardy rule? Sure I remember something being said when Waterfall was sent off against Maidenhead and the penalty given. We were sat in the stands wondering about the double jeopardy rule and why it wasn't applied. Memory just not good enough to remember what the answer was!

Yep. Goal goes in, look at the ref, look at the lino. All good? It's time to go mental. Horrible to have a come down from that two minutes later (see that goal from the free kick away at Salford a couple of seasons ago, which was bizarrely disallowed by the fourth official long after the net had rippled).

VAR  makes good and bad history.  A different reality.  EWorld Cup over the line for England.  Bristol Rovers non-sending off or red card for their keeper.

Lampard non-goal in World Cup.  Way over the line.

Salford goal.

Leeds denied European Cup final win as officials favoured or influenced by famous Bayern Munich fans.  Leeds fans rioted,

Leeds again,  WBA offside goal allowed to stand at end of the season.  Leeds lose the title.

Football is spontaneous joy or misery.  Unpredictable.  Injustices or perceived injustices live long in the memory though.

Sorting out marginal and crazy offside decisions would give VAR more credibility and acceptance.  And speed the review process up.  We are not looking for 99% certainly.

And more than likely our winner at Notts County would have been disallowed!

I have no problem with VAR but I do have with the way it is applied. It should be used for crucial fouls missed by the officials . It should not be applied to those that the officials give but the punishment given is not deemed severe enough by the VAR ref , like our sending off against Crystal Palace in the FA Cup.

I have no problem with VAR but I do have with the way it is applied. It should be used for crucial fouls missed by the officials . It should not be applied to those that the officials give but the punishment given is not deemed severe enough by the VAR ref , like our sending off against Crystal Palace in the FA Cup.

Where do you draw the line though, checking "crucial fouls"?

Every on-field decision by a referee has a knock-on effect on the play that follows. Every foul is an opinion; sometimes VAR sees it differently from the ref, and sometimes it doesn't. Sometimes it doesn't get involved when it should and sometimes it gets involved when it shouldn't. The whole thing is a joke, the game is no better and after a VAR decision pundits spend endless minutes looking at it and they still can't agree.

If they must, just use it for goal-line technology and offsides where there is daylight between the players.
