I could be wrong - but if my memory serves me correctly, both Starbuck & Idehen were made available with sell on clauses?

As far as I am aware they were told to leave if another club would take on their contracts and we have a sell-on fee for them. At that stage, we couldn't have sold them on as they weren't developed enough, so we let them go to other clubs to develop at a greater rate than they could have with GTFC and we reap the rewards if they get sold.

Idehen was released which made little sense and even less when he then signs for a championship club. Starbuck less of an issue, because he showed very little. Idehen lacked confidence and composure, but had the raw ability to be a good defender.

Idehen was made available for months, no one came in for him, then released, and a champ side take him on trial. I can't see why u are criticising the current regime here tbf, I get the feeling u would be critical if was still employed by us too..... I.e. no win

Championship clubs can afford to take a chance on a " maybe " , we have to be sure it's not so much as a " maybe " but a " quite possibly ". The fact that PH released these two players could be a reflection of the ethos at the club the. It could be that the new owners are prepared to allow PH to speculate a bit more on emerging talent?
Managers judge emerging young players in many different ways - some can seem to have potential to one manager but not to another. It's not specifically a reflection of just their ability but their application, attitude, temperament and  willingness to learn. Young players get rejected by Premiersh*t clubs but still blossom in the end and do well at another club at the same level.

Does nobody recognise the connection of Hollowwords taking a gamble on players from a few levels below us who nearly all turned out to be duffers, with Bristol City taking a gamble on a player from a few levels lower than them?

I wonder if the Norwich and Lincoln forums sit there moaning about letting Idehen go in 2018 and 2019? Ipswich let Ryan Bennett go on a free and he ended up in the Premier League too. Even though he's ended up in the Championship, a lot still needs to go in his favour for him to make it. Rumarn Burrell played 4 games for us in 2019 and we sold him to Middlesbrough for a reported £100k which looks like a very good deal on our part right now.

Just watched the Yeovil prematch interview with Gwilym Lloyd. Entertaining for a number of reasons!! I have to say I know his name but not much about him, however think it is safe to say Grimsby town football club is not his specialist subject!!

On a more serious note Hurst spoke about giving the youth team graduates more time to develop, rather than giving them 12 months and then releasing them which sounds positive. Another good sign of proper planning at the club and having a structure in place. Hopefully something we will see the benefits of in the next couple of years.

Given the going rate for a ready-made off-the-shelf striker who could score the goals needed to get us back to L2, it makes complete sense to try and develop
one of our own.

Won't start a new thread so just going to say it here..

Safe journey to everyone. For me this is the biggest game so, far, anything but a win makes the table look worrying with a few tough games to come after. UTM
