Russians with links to Putin have donated to the Tory party so it would be a bit hypocritical of Doris to try to stop them giving money to anyone else.

I wonder how long it will be before this thread ends up in Non Football

When Leeds trainer Les Cocker was once told Norman Hunter had broken a leg, he asked: “Whose is it?”

I think we should not freeze  Russian money and assets but keep it for ourself and give it to charity and sporting use in our country.

Grimsby Town FC. can then send a letter to Putin saying.

Dear Mr Putin. thank you for our new stadium funded by your money it's a pity you can not come to the grand opening as you are not allowed to leave your prison ever !!!

They could challenge it in the courts. It does seem slightly unfair to tar every Russian with the same brush. Only slightly though.

A government that has accepted millions from Russians is not going to worry who owns a football club…

Talking of Abromovich, some MP used parliamentary privilege to say hat he was a mate of Putin, but I’ve not actually read or heard what he said, is this because it cannot be repeated outside of parliament.

There’s a video of what she said, just named the 35 oligarch's who enable the Putin regime.
Bit weird parliamentary privilege that they use it now to get around gagging orders and put information in the public domain as everything is recorded and broadcast. Fair play to them for it.

He does/did have close relations with Putin. He recommended him to Yeltsin! He was a regional governor under Putin until 2008.

And you don’t make billions within a few years of the collapse of socialism, from a standing start if you’re not dodgy.

Through the door there came familiar laughter,
I saw your face and heard you call my name.
Oh my friend we're older but no wiser,
For in our hearts the dreams are still the same.

I’m not sure that the football authorities will do anything sanction-wise. Chelsea probably largely finance themselves through commercial activity and TV money now. Let’s face it Chelsea fans are either long term ones who still can’t believe their luck and gloryhunters who couldn’t care less how success is bought - it’s unlikely they’d demonstrate against him. Even if away fans boycotted Stamford Bridge the aforementioned commercial success means that Chelsea probably won’t miss the cash. A shame really.
