Mildly interesting that when Donny were relegated in 98, whilst we were having the best of times, the bottom five of the basement division looked like this:
Swansea Cardiff Hull Brighton Doncaster
Genuine question, how did we fúck it up so badly from there?
excrement chairman, excrement directors, excrement managers and excrement players, there seems to be a recurring theme going on there but I'm buggered if I can think what it is.

Surely, it was ITV Digital - we were too successful; if we hadn't been so high up the pyramid then we wouldn't have lost so much income when they went bust. The previous owner put that right for us with great skill.

And what then happened to those clubs? Massive investment........and we all know the direction that all 5 clubs went soon after said investment. On the up! Maybe we can emulate any one of them in the next few seasons

I’m not sure how relevant this is but all of the above have moved to new stadiums.

Most of those stadia were built at the behest or with the help of the local council. Compare and contrast.
Quite a lot of money sloshing around the towns/cities where those clubs reside as well, of course, but notable that 4 of them were also conceived as stadia for both the local football and rugby teams and 3 of them still host both codes.
All were possible due to the local council coughing up substantial packets of land for redevelopment. We don't perhaps have comparable land available and our transport links around town are crummy in comparison to those others as well.

Just think, if he’d been in power in 1990, he would have made sure we weren’t caught up in the whole all-seater stadium thing too.

The signs were always there that he wouldn't be able to keep up his form. He was too fragile mentally and the last month he was with us had gone off the boil. Obviously had some talent because he was pretty much unplayable for a few months, but when he was off form was a bit of liability and had a Roy of the Rovers mentality when we weren't on top in a game.
I think he's capable in L1, but needs a manager that fluffs him up and probably better in a team creating lots of chances than a mid to bottom half team. But his record since leaving us isn't going to get him in a team like that.
It's easy to get trapped in the romanticism of Bogle and only remember things like the Wembley goals or the Stevenage win. The fact is that he was often more of a hinderance than a help in games that were tough as he'd start trying to do everything himself or some of his moves didn't come off so he sulked. Just as many games when I thought he was amazing as ones where I found him annoying because he was stomping his feet and sulking. Obviously lots of high hopes for him because Wigan paid good money but he never lived up to it anywhere. Probably moved up levels too far, too soon and never had a chance to really bed in and find form in L2 as a handful of good games got him a contract much higher up where he never settled in to the level of football. He'd spent his career beforehand apart from one season in L2 as a non-league star.
