Just got to BP absolutely drenched.  Expecting a few mistakes tonight due to the conditions.

When Leeds trainer Les Cocker was once told Norman Hunter had broken a leg, he asked: “Whose is it?”

Sounds like we're being hit by the conditions.

Through the door there came familiar laughter,
I saw your face and heard you call my name.
Oh my friend we're older but no wiser,
For in our hearts the dreams are still the same.

Does this mean it stays at 0-1 until we replay the game. Or does it start from 0-0?

Sounds like it's just a temporary thing....they might come back to play later this evening.

If it is abandoned it will be replayed and start 0-0 when it's replayed.

Does that mean that Zak is still suspended ???

The wife was going away for a girly weekend.
I jokingly remarked  'I don't know whether to spend it watching porn or watching football'
'you may as well spend it watching porn' she replied
That's understanding darling what makes you say that? I asked

She said 'Well you already know how to play football'

Does this mean it stays at 0-1 until we replay the game. Or does it start from 0-0?

It starts at 0-0 but for the first 18 mins they have to play the exact same passes and fouls as they did in the first game and the same player has to score. After 18 mins. it is then a free for all. If a player was injured in the first game he is not allowed a substitute in the second game. If the scores are level after the final 72 minutes of the second game then there is extra time. If the scores are still level there is a new system where they all have to sing an  ABBA song or something like that

When is the rearranged game? Have they announced it? I heard someone say tomorrow night?

"Falls to Arnold... Arnold! That's it! Thats it! He's sealed it! Grimsby Town are back in the football league!!! Just a minute to go and Nathan Arnold makes it 3-1! Look at the scenes behind the goal! Look at the relief! The agony is finally over!!!"

It was atrocious out there, water over boot height in large parts of the pitch. Rain still teaming down. Dangerous. Unfortunate but correct decision. Refunds available or stubs can be used for the rearranged game.

It better flipping well ease up soon because the water isn't too far off the top of the beck near the back of my house. I'd prefer not to be paddling during breakfast.

As for the game (such as it was), credit to both sets of players who were manfully trying to play some proper football despite the conditions.

Massive respect to all those that attended. I was really looking forward to the first evening kick off of the season but wimped out after spending all day out in the rain.

Impossible to sum up what happened in the minutes played. About 5 minutes before the abandonment Berrett played a square ball to Ben Davies that got halfway there before getting stuck and allowing a breakaway - at that point, it was never going to continue.

Rushden and diamonds

He knew it was one of those double teams.

That's an excuse for me to roll out the old story about the Yanks. In the qualifiers for the 1990 World Cup the USA had to play against Trinidad and Tobago. One of the Yank papers commented that the 'Soccer' authorities are unfair making the US play against two teams.

"Sort your pitch out"........... what a plonker.

When Leeds trainer Les Cocker was once told Norman Hunter had broken a leg, he asked: “Whose is it?”

Wow, some really, really stupid people in Derby. I'd doubt there are many if any grounds in the country which could have withstood this rainfall.

Is this the same Derby County who, in the Brian Clough days,  used to
deliberately flood their own pitch when playing better footballing opponents.

It's one of the best pitches in the country and very rarely do we have a game called off for rain. If our pitch couldn't handle the deluge, i doubt many could.

I always remember the Baseball Ground , like a cabbage patch at its best. Maybe the Derby fans criticising are actual real walking, talking cabbage Patch Dolls, complete with vegetable matter of dubious origin for brains.
On a serious point, the game should not have started & it should have been called off prior to away fans travelling, must be irritating for them. From my perspective, I'm still mourning for my £3 Humber Bridge Tolls & gallon and a bit of diesel, ha, ha.

Our pitch is one of the only few pitches in England that is almost below sea level, when was the last time it was water-logged? Has to have been decades ago! Plus the pitch looked fantastic as always.

To be fair the ball was moving fine during the warm up and the opening exchanges of the game, but the rain kept coming and it quickly became unplayable, I think Collins is still sliding somewhere on the seafront from his tackle on the halfway line.

Felt for the two lads with the water rollers, if there ever was a pointless job, they had it tonight.

Yep - had to laugh at them trying during the 'temporary' abandonment. Regarding the warm-up, the rain wasn't that heavy and can understand why it started.

Yes - I arrived (soaked) about 10 minutes before kickoff and our subs were out knocking the ball around on the surface with no issue. Things looked ok for the first few minutes of the match, but after about 10 minutes the ball started getting held up by wet patches and players started awkwardly slipping so the referee didn't really have any other choice.

I took the Mrs as my Dad couldn't go.
It certainly came down didn't it. Parked in Barnett Place, wasn't so bad on the walk before KO, afterwards we got soaked.
Pretty sure there's a swimming pool in the car.

I thought we started pretty well, not sure what happened with their goal, looked like someone didn't pick Keogh up.
Still, we get another go.
Was a bit surprised to see Bogle hanging around behind the Pontoon..

What unbelievable rain and having shown no sign of slowing down, it had to be abandoned.

On the Derby forum, somebody has mentioned that some teams would allow the side who were winning the first game, to walk the ball into the net.
Something no doubt that would not have been mentioned, if we had scored the goal.

One of them said it was because our pitch was so s--t it couldn't soak up a bit of water, when in fact it was stunningly beautiful at the kick off, considering all the rain. And it didn't cut up too.

For me, no. I parked up in Harrington Street at around 6.25 and the rain was torrential then. The weather forecast suggested that the rain would continue in that way throughout the game, on top of the rain that had already fallen during the day. I couldn't see any way that the game would finish and, in that context, common sense should take over and mean you don't actually start it.

That said, having seen the state of just one or two of the roads on the way out of town, I just hope any flood damage is not too severe.

Well, it wasn't a corner. Two of our players let the ball trickle out of play when either could have cleared it for a throw-in.

The match was abandoned so the next one will start with a clean sheet and that's that.

Agree,

Arrived in Grimsby 19.25 after driving up from a meeting in Kingston, left Grimsby at 20:25 for a trip home that took in 2 diversions as well as p1ssing it down all of the way, back in the house at 11.55.

I disagree, the players left it because they were confident that the ball was going out for a goal kick - it certainly looked it from the upper.
If they had booted it into touch they would have been berated for wasting possession.

Leaving the conditions out of it, Derby are a decent side, but we were doing ok and several times got into dangerous areas. Had the makings of a good game. Cannot comment on the corner/no corner as it was impossible to tell from the middle of the main stand. Although a guy near me was getting wound up with the ref for giving it, saying it was never a corner. Unreal

Quoted from Mallyner
What unbelievable rain and having shown no sign of slowing down, it had to be abandoned.

On the Derby forum, somebody has mentioned that some teams would allow the side who were winning the first game, to walk the ball into the net.
Something no doubt that would not have been mentioned, if we had scored the goal.

One of them said it was because our pitch was so s--t it couldn't soak up a bit of water, when in fact it was stunningly beautiful at the kick off, considering all the rain. And it didn't cut up too.

We just about did that last night, I can't remember who challenged Keogh but it might as well have been my wife.

Same as last season, just about another free header.

I think it was Collins of all people who lost his man and let him get half a yard in front of him. I suppose he might have slipped, given the conditions.

Would you be furious if it was the other way round?

My only gripe was that it didn't look to be a corner!

I'm sure I saw the same thing happen at Leicester years ago, but can't remember  when, against whom or why.
