What's the latest with these lot, clearly not good enough but I fear we may struggle to offload them.

I think we are low on signings at the moment as we need to offload a couple. Especially with us working with a smaller squad this year.

Harsh on Vernon, decent player in my eyes. Berrett was very good under Slade so I expect he's in his plans, Summerfield not sure.

Vernons a very good player. Underused by Hurst and singled out by many because he isnt a striker that scores goals. He's a slade type player and will do well under him. Also a gentleman

Slade as seen potential lets see how they do I say. Vernon certainly looked a decent player back end of the season.

Don't get me wrong Hagrid as I like Vernon but to say that he isnt a striker that scores goals is like saying Macca is a good goalkeeper who can't save shots.. A strikers job is to score goals-if he is a forward who is used to make goals then he is not a striker

Berrett's been given squad number 7 which would suggest to me that he'll be well in Slade's plans next season.

The quote about thinking strikers who don't score makes them useless is just nonsensical. He probably creates more goals and provides defenders with problems more than a lot of so called goal scorers. I guess you weren't a Lenny fan then!

If a player is a "striker" he is there to score goals ie  Strike.  If he is there primarily to help somebody else to score then he is not a s

triker-they are.He could be a target man used to lay the ball off to the striker-this is what Vernon does very well but he is not a striker PS I am a big Lennie Fan

Berrett has the number 7 shirt which tells us everything we need to know about his future.

Slade publicly said how he appreciates Vernon and the lack of target man signed tells us he is here to stay.  That leaves Summerfield who I am unsure of.

Berrett played well when Slade came in.

Berrett is a good technical player, however his downfall is having very little impact/presence in games. IMO Slade is perfect to bring this out of him

I think the whole ticks and crosses thing is just childish,

I feel a lot better since I turned mine off so I have no idea what posters do to me or anybody else,

So the red cross brigade can fire away all they like, I can not see it so I do not give a toss.

It would be a lot better if posters replied and say I agree with your post because ?????

I've stayed away from the Fishy because of this sort of post.....freedom of speech yes agree and all that. Vernon gave as much much as any other player last season - I'd imagine any of our squad would trust him. UTM

So in that context, Livvo wasn't a true striker from his goals ratio, but scared the hell out of many centre halves !

Like wise - Tony Rees and his clever 1-2's to allow forwards to be free to score.

We now have several players who have an ability to score, but agree that we need a focal point who can give us 20+ from somewhere in the team.

Really? he only started 16 games and until the last few of the season was pretty anonymous in the rest.

IMHO I wouldn't have any of those named as my first choice.

Scott Vernon is one of the most intelligent Strikers at this level. Whilst he wont bag you 20 a season, he will occupy the defenders in the build up to allow another player to score the goal. His link up play to bring others into the game is very good aswell, very strong on the ball and I believe he will be Russ's lump. Roll on next season!

I think Vernon struggled in some of the earlier games in the season that I saw due to a relative lack of pre-season. He's a big guy and he's a bit older and without a full pre-season I don't think we were getting the best out of him. The game at Wycombe springs to mind where he was easily contained by their centre backs. Having said that, he showed later in the season that he can be a good focal point and springboard for attacks provided he has the right mix of players to benefit from him being there. I think with a full pre-season and hopefully an increased fitness across the squad with the sports science as well as more pace in wide and attacking areas that he might be a useful part of the squad and a decent plan B. I don't think I'd have him as a starting player too often because he isn't the same class as Lump was but if we got a striker in as good as Lump I'd be over the moon.

I'm pretty sure I saw Scott Vernon at the armed forces today in Cleethorpes, he'll give us a few more options next season if we do get Maynard or Tyler, slade will have his work cut out.

Lump and Vernon are miles apart in class, even though we're at the same level. Lump pretty much was the complete forward at this level, Ready gets so much praise  (mostly deservidly) but we were amazingly lucky to bag G.Jones for a couple of seasons.

Vernon will do fine as a squad player, different option from the bench.

I'm not even sure Clements is any better than him. He still gives the ball away too cheaply, scores more goals though.

Really?

Clements is very tidy, keeps things moving at pace and has a degree of positional sense about him.  As you said chips in with a fair share of goals too.

Summerfield on the hand has a habit of getting in the way of the play, slowing it down and then often gives the ball away.

Unfortunately Summerfield was just a bad signing, simple as.  Can't fault his effort but with the options we have in central midfield this season, he shouldn't be anywhere near that starting eleven.

Whatever the players did last season under the 2 previous managers will now be under scrutiny from the new manager and after a period of fitness training designed to give them every chance to push for a 1st team place.

Russell Slade will have his tactics and players ready for slotting into positions, and will hopefully give all signed players an equal crack of the whip to impress him and Wilko.

Personally, I am hoping for an injury free season for McAllister, as he could be a major player for us this year if kept fit, and I'd like to see if Yussuf can progress from frequent non selections last year.

Holding back Asante until fully fit could be like having a new signing, and if his potential as a replacement for Omar Bogle comes anywhere near fruition, then we could have another future saleable asset.

Those who do not match Slade's requirements need to be moved on, loaned out, whatever is needed.

New broom sweeps clean and we all move on to this new season and squad of players.

Sadly I don't see Asante as a saleable asset, he's only got one year left on his deal and even of he were to keep himself fit and he scored a shed load of goals, he walk away for free at the end of his contract

I just don't know what the deal is with Yussef, and I'm unsure that Slade will give him a go as he was fit at the back end of the season but never got a look in, even though Slade said everyone would have a chance.

I can't even recall Slade using his name once.

Perhaps he's an epically bad trainer or something.

Maxwell and Gunning?

I saw Maxwell play in a reserve game and I thought he was quite decent. Gunning was brought in as a centre-back so he was hardly a mid-fielder.

Gunning was hardly anything but a car crash waiting to happen, certainly not a Slade type character
