Just wondering what chances Town have (if any!) of re-signing Deano...only bringing this up as he did well for us and I have seen that he hasn't managed to make the squad behind two other unknown youngsters?

He can't be in this weekend's Man Utd squad because he is with England at the U-20s World Cup in South Korea.

Nigel Batch was the best keeper I ever saw play for Town, just my opinion.

When Leeds trainer Les Cocker was once told Norman Hunter had broken a leg, he asked: “Whose is it?”

Just as others of a certain age might quote Rhys Wilmott or Anthony Williams ......

Although only a loan beasant was by far and away the best keeper I've ever seen play for town. Not his shot stopping, not his ability to catch or punch a ball, but the ability he had to organise and control the defence was second to none. They knew what they had to do and where they had to be, in fact us in the stand knew because we could hear him. He gave them confidence in him, and therefore they had more confidence to be able to play their own game and have the confidence to know that if they messed up, he would be able to get them out of the do do.

As an ex keeper imho he was a superb keeper whose career was defined on the positive by a penalty save but almost more high profile was the couple of very high profile errors.

I can see a lot of young Deano Henderson in him. The question is, will he take the easy route and stay at manure, or will he have the confidence in his own ability and go out into the big wide world. I think he has the ability and his next move will be the biggest choice of his career.

Interestingly another good young keeper, David stockdale of Brighton, has turned down a new contract with them. A bit of inside knowledge on this one. He is apparently on the verge of joining Chelsea which will leave him at best second choice (assuming begovic is on the move), and realistically he will never be first choice. So it seems he is happy to go there to not play football, but to earn 20k a week extra. It might not happen, but it comes from someone within the Brighton 'family' so a good source. Just think it is so sad that good talent is prepared NOT to play football because they will be paid more. I understand that it a short career and it might be cut short by injury, but it does seem like the love and the spirit of the game has gone. When I was a kid I would have sold my left arm to do something like play in the cup final. They just don't have those dreams anymore.

Had some good keepers here and some dross ones Wainman.Coyne,Batch,Sharewood,Bessant,Davison and Slade fav Mildenhall were all excellent keepers in my fifty odd years.

Reece wilmot and criton being two of the worst.

Macca probably sits between those stats.

Agree with Rhys Wilmot but I thought Paul Crichton was pretty good.  He made a couple of bloomers that made him star on Danny Baker videos but I'm also sure he won player of the year while he was here.

Beasant probably the most authoritative but for me hard to choose between him Batchy and Danny Coyne, and IMHO Henderson will not come back to GTFC in a month of Sundays

As much as I'd love to see Henderson back, he is just too good for us at our level. We were lucky to have him and it was a shame not to see more of him. But with his potential he should be due a loan to a top league 1/championship club to progress as he needs to. He's with United and England U20s for a reason.

To be fair, I think I'd probably be happy enough to join the League Champions, earning an extra million a year and just making the odd appearance in the League Cup and F.A. Cup. Stay there a year or two and you're set for life, even if Courtois doesn't get injured.

31 weeks would potentially give you a month of Sundays so who knows?

The wife was going away for a girly weekend.
I jokingly remarked  'I don't know whether to spend it watching porn or watching football'
'you may as well spend it watching porn' she replied
That's understanding darling what makes you say that? I asked

She said 'Well you already know how to play football'

Move on.

Well never get him back.

Henderson made mistakes while he was here, not a great number of them but he still did - evarybody seemed to turn a blind eye. Every time Mckeown - our own player who has served us well for 6 years - made a mistake, the abuse he got was awful and not needed, surely doing his confidence no good and making him more likely to make another mistake.

I don't think we've ever had a player who fans have brown noses so much.

Lol. Yes, didn't know his age so my bad. I thought he was mid twenties at best. Young at heart I'm sure and should still have 5 or 6 years left, but has decided that a lot of that will be sat down watching rather than playing. Still sad when would be earning £40k a week to be brightons number one keeper and make a name for himself. But money talks, and to be fair, talks more when you get towards the later stages of your career.

Really good up and coming keeper but you are right he was a "badge kisser" which a lot of fans got caught up in.

Yes, Steve Sherwood was older than that when Buckley signed him from Watford. An experienced keeper can make all the difference to a defence.

I think Colgan had to have been one of the worst, most embarrassing watching the ball trickle through him for a goal.
So much hype when he joined as he was a supposed Premier keeper.

Colgan concerned me from the very beginning. He had been second choice at every club he had played for, and the number of appearances prior to joining us was very concerning for a player of his age. The number of goals he seemed to concede that somehow looped over his shoulder was incredible.

Was there though? I seem to remember it being split with "omg why!?" and "Hey let's give him a chance.." which after he did play turned into "omg why!?". Funny thing was he wasn't the worst keeper we had that season. Colgan was just a bench warmer for a lot of big teams but never played much in years by the time he joined us as our first choice keeper.  Forecast is still the worst keeper I've ever seen in my life including watching Sunday league games, who the hell trained him and thought he had potential I don't know.
